  1. Cold and Snow. 8 degrees at my house, 3 is official temp. Had maybe 2 in. of snow. I think the cloud cover kept the temps from going below zero. But tomorrow night into Sun is looking much colder. I am straight N. of Denver.
Not going out, hunkering down, watching TUBI.
    Stay safe out there.

  2. SE Ohio — 7 degrees in the morning, no precipitation. Up to 9 degrees now. Forecast is for snow but don’t know when. Weather gurus say that we’ll have 8″ of snow by Sunday evening. Sure doesn’t look that way now.

Shelves were almost empty in the grocery store yesterday afternoon.

  3. Cold and crazy conditions in Oklahoma. Currently 7/-9 wind chill in OKC with about 1-3 inches. Second wave with 4-8 inches possible tonight.

Southern OK got about 3-4 inches of sleet (ice pellets) and it is still snowing with freezing rain in the south, even though the temps are in the single digits.

The good thing is that it is the weekend so people are staying home and traffic is light. One thing I learned this morning is that the highway patrol is teaming up with the national guard to rescue people. The guard has the heavy trucks and can pull cars and semis out of the ditches as well as transport people as necessary. Nice coordination of help.

  4. @physicsguy: I know most here have soured on Megyn Kelly, but I still watch what she is doing everyday.

    Me too.

  5. I swear to God these leftists have a real mental problem. So today,I posted a fun thing I found with a picture of Elsa (from Disney’s Frozen) being arrested with the following text:

    “Breaking news:
    Arendelle, NY–
The person responsible for this severe winter storm has been found and arrested. The National Weather Service told police where they thought the suspect was located. When police arrived, the woman with long braided white hair, tiara, and a sparkling blue dress was weaving snow, ice, and wind with her hands. Police surrounded the woman and told her “To let it go!”
After her arrest, the woman defiantly told the police “The cold never bothered me anyway!”. An accomplice, a small snowman with a carrot nose, was also taken into custody.
The National Weather Service says, that despite the arrest it may have come too late as what she set in motion probably cannot be stopped.”

A leftist friend, a guy I grew up with so I have known him for 65 years, just had to repsond with: “Lucky for her – she didn’t try to drive away in a Honda Pilot.”

WTH?? A compulsion to turn a humorous post into politics. Sigh….

  6. Wow! 8 deg here with two inches of snow already. My iPad says 16 inches (!) more snow is on the way with a low of 1 deg tonight. I don’t think I’ve ever seen this much snow when it’s this cold.

    Stay safe everyone.

  7. I called my friend out for his injecting politics into a humor post, his response:

“Right – in fairness, it’s ever so slightly politically charged humor that tries to make light of a horrible situation.”

How is it “slightly politically charged humor”??? Of course, the “horrible situation” he refers to is not the big winter storm, but Minneapolis….Sigh…. such a warped world view. Someone please explain these people to me.

  8. Best thing I’ve read yet on Davos. By Walter Russell Mead, and yes, it’s in the WSJ.

    https://archive.fo/rklEN

The conventional story is that America’s grotesque president finally succeeded in wrecking the world order his wiser predecessors had put in place. Eight decades of patient statecraft by a succession of American presidents, ably seconded by their virtuous and farsighted European colleagues, had built a network of institutions and precedents that offered suffering humanity a promise of global peace. Donald Trump has gratuitously reduced it to rubble.

    And later:

Mainstream European politicians have chosen another path. They pay lavish lip service to difficult and demanding ideals without developing the capabilities required to defend them. They want to feel and look virtuous without the discipline and sacrifice that virtue demands. It is worse than hypocrisy, because they seek to deceive not only others but themselves. Until very recently, they were succeeding.

  9. Another great interview by the All-In Podcast with Dr. Mehmet Oz about some interesting concepts to utilize LLM’s to help reduce costs and bring more access to healthcare in rural areas. This futuristic synthesis of AI and medicine is advancing quickly. (I wish Jason would shut up at times).

The last half of the interview includes the medical fraud ripping off taxpayers.

  10. Someone please explain these people to me.

    physicsguy:

The humor is never the humor, the humor is always the revolution. 🙂

I’m having a bit of fun, but I’m serious. It all comes down to the left’s unilateral demand for power.

  11. I was looking at Neo’s threads right now, and “The Songs of America” interspersed with George Soros-Deportation and ending with “Getting Ready for the Storm” is a perfect metaphor/symbolism for the future of the country for the next many months beginning with the most recent event in Minneapolis.

    My take would be:
    Song: “Four Dead in Ohio”
George Soros: Finish the transformation of America
Deportations: Flashpoint for the Summer of Rage
Getting Ready for the Storm: I have little other than steeling ourselves for the collectivist rage.

Those 12 million illegals, some/many/most having already been given a taste of American largesse won’t remain in the shadows for long. Some are here to sustain the rage. The hard work right now is being done by the naive, rich, white, brainwashed idealists are already being replaced by the antifa collectivists who have been trained in modern terrorist/resistance tactics.

  12. An activist armed with a 9mm pistol was shot and killed in Minneapolis this AM by ICE agents on a targeted arrest mission. The activist was violently obstructing the agents at the time. Videos I have seen are difficult to follow. Walz and Frey bear some responsibility for encouraging the actions of the rioters.

  13. To clarify something I wrote in my previous comment– I referenced “Four Dead in Ohio”, not because I think the shooting in Minneapolis was similar to the events at Kent State.
To those who didn’t live through those days, I think the shootings were a pivotal point that turned public opinion against the Vietnam War.

If we give up the critically necessary effort to turn back the wholesale invasion of the country during the Biden term, the left will have achieved another goal to achieve the “transforming of America”, began under the Obama administration.

  14. To those who didn’t live through those days, I think the [Kent State] shootings were a pivotal point that turned public opinion against the Vietnam War.

    Brian E:

    Agreed.

Though as I recall that history, Kent State was also the end of the mass campus protests. However strong their anti-war convictions most young people decided they didn’t want to chance getting shot.

    Bombings were another matter.

  15. “I’m having a bit of fun, but I’m serious. It all comes down to the left’s unilateral demand for power. Huxley

“There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, But the end thereof are the ways of death.” Proverbs 14:12-16 KJV

  16. Kent State and Minneapolis ain’t at all analogous except that the left is deeply imbedded (parasitizing) government now and still working to destroy America. Boomers f’ed up in that regard.

I was aware back then too.

  17. “Kent State and Minneapolis ain’t at all analogous” – om

For once, I hope you’re right. I worry that two deaths and on injured by ICE in the space of a week, will be propagandized to the point that voters fall for the left’s prescription– eliminate ICE and replace it with a more civil organization. If that gains acceptance as a campaign slogan, the Democrats take the House and Trump is handcuffed by endless impeachments, etc., etc., etc.

As recalcitrant as the Republicans have been in the House, they haven’t been actively hostile to the President’s policies.

Look, at this point this third shooting appears more confusing. The initial explanation that he was armed, based on the videos I’ve seen, doesn’t justify the shooting. Did the ICE agents know that? I’m not certain what the rioter thought his end goal was. Make it has hard as possible to be subdued? All of it doesn’t make much sense– other than he believed it noble to resist arrest, based on what the state/city official have been saying.

  18. The sky isn’t falling and the 48 or 96 hour rule still applies. It took a few days for the definitive video that debunked Saint Sparkes emerged.

    So get a grip.

Of course the left will lie and do all they can to set the narrative. I don’t think it will work, this isn’t 2019/2020. Bill Barr isn’t in the DOJ any more (what a useless tool he turned out to be).

Bring a firearm to confront ICE, that’s worse than Saint Sparkles. Did the deceased have a death wish?

  19. Mike Plaiss on January 24, 2026 at 3:19 pm:
Thanks for citing the archived WSJ’s WR Mead article. Very refreshing.

  20. Its getting pretty crazy these days.

Here is a young woman whose face is really, really covered with piercings–the metal chain dangling down from her nose, swaying–and catching one’s eye, with her every movement–the piece de resistance–who says she is offended when people judge her by her looks, which they shouldn’t do.

Whereas the guy debating her says that how she presents herself is a form of communication, and makes a statement.*

Lets do a little thought experiment.

Would you hire this chick for any kind of serious job, especially one in which she was the face of your business, and representing your company to the public?

    Didn’t think so.

    * See https://www.youtube.com/shorts/Mqtz2WJrtDM

  21. Sheet metal gal, aka Shrapnel Face, doesn’t want to be hired. Expects you to support her. It is a disability rights issue for her “clan/tribe.”

  22. Going to be controversial here I know, but this morning I saw some new video of the shooting. From this new angle one can see, first of all, Pretti confronting agents on the sidewalk and definitely being aggressive. Next, his companion confronts agents and is pepper sprayed and shoved down which then sets Pretti off on the agents. They wrestle him to the ground with maybe 3 or 4 agents over him. What I found disturbing, is that next, one agent standing backs off and pulls his gun and then fires into Pretti at which point the other agents quickly back off. What did that one agent see? No video evidence of Pretti holding a gun in his hand. Though actions of the officers suggest they saw a weapon.

I think we may have to wait further and follow om’s 48 hour rule. This is not quite the same as Renee Good

  23. If anyone is looking for a movie to ride out the snowstorm, I just watched Nuremberg and thought it was good. Not great, but good enough to recommend.

  24. It’s not controversial to want facts, physicsguy. This shooting may be more problematic than the Renee Good shooting. Still, the situation comes from the attempt by protesters, encouraged by state leaders, to interfere with federal law enforcement. People who join an insurrection may get hurt. It seems the officers perceived a threat; they may have been mistaken.

  25. While yer hunkering down, Powerline blog, as it so often is, is on a roll…

…The devolution of once-independent voices like the Tribune into the rigid orthodoxy of the far left is one of the earliest and most troubling signs that the American Republic is deeply threatened and under siege, especially in big blue cities.…

    Keep warm, everyone…and good luck.

  26. On a lighter note, how clever of neo to put such an attractive potpourri of posts up (Soros, the weather, American music…) knowing many of us would be stuck inside this weekend. I’ll bet the American music one tops triple digits in comments.

  27. I don’t think it is reasonable to expect the police fight resisters with hand to hand combat. Resist arrest, get shot, gun or no gun. I don’t want the cops suffering any injuries (like losing a finger) trying to subdue these shitheads.

  28. Judging by the photo of Pretti’s gun here:

Sure, he had a permit, but it seems a terrible idea to bring that kind of firepower to a violent protest unless you are prepared to use it on ICE.

  29. The idiot went there to commit a criminal act. He went armed to commit said act. Criminal acts aren’t really a 2A issue are they?

  30. Physicsguy —
“This morning she had a good interview with Harmeet Dhillon in which she said, despite the speedbump of the magistrate, they are still going after Don Lemon.”
    Great news!!
(I’m so glad Dhillon is in Trump’s administration! )
Btw, I too think Megyn Kelly is still worth some time. Thanks for sharing this.

  31. So he was carrying a Sigg-Saurer P320 into a confrontation with ICE.

    Yep, death wish.

Senior pastor had a long prayer for the deaths in Minneapolis. But last week there were crickets when the left disrupted an ongoing church service, not was it mentioned in his prayer today. Selective outrage or misplaced empathy?

  32. The Democrats are lying.
    The Left is lying.
    The Media is lying.

(As they are prone to do.
    As they must do.)

    Any OTHER questions?

  33. om, I’d like to know what your sr. pastor would say if asked about 1) the MN church “disruption” and 2) his omission!
Also: has he ever mentioned any of the many deaths by illegals?

  34. Besides encouraging the commie rioters, Frey and Walz withheld state and local law enforcement support for ICE, so they have the blood of their useful idiots on their hands.

ICE is there to enforce our immigration laws, not to maintain order, which is the mayor and governor’s responsibility.

Were “Good” and “Pretti” the real surnames of these suicides by cop? What are the odds the next one’s surname will be “Noble”?

  35. As they must do.

If this statement from Barry Meislin confuses you, or you think it’s over-the-top, or a bridge too far, then you do not understand the left and what you’re up against.

  36. Marlene:

Deaths from illegals? Not a peep. No mention yet about the church disruption. I’ve walked out before when other pastors go overboard (to the lefty feelz).

  37. Saint Good (Sparkles (with love)) and now Saint Pretti. Saint Pretti was an ICU nurse.

Mengele was a doctor. Bill Ayers is an educator.

  38. I have here referred to these federal law opponents as “protesters.” This is an error. In civil disobedience, protesters peacefully accept arrest and legal proceedings. These insurrection operatives are trained to commit felonies (impeding legitimate federal law enforcement operations) and are also trained to think they are immune to the results of doing this. The leftists running these operations are setting useful idiots up to be injured or killed. The only wonder is that it doesn’t happen more often.

  39. This analysis presents a very plausible explanation for how this tragic event occurred.

The shows an agent removing the rioter’s handgun from the rioters holster. You hear the shout, “gun, gun gun” and the remaining LEO’s reach for their handguns. As this agent moves away from the group, it accidentally discharges, which causes the remaining agents to react and fire on the rioter. While he shows all of these events in slow motion, it all happens in a second or two.

NEW FOOTAGE BREAKDOWN Shows EXACTLY What Happened In ICE SHOOTING… The Odds Of This Are Very SMALL
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ktY_amK35A

While this or other investigations may absolve the agents from any wrongdoing, it still gives the left ammunition against ICE in the political arena.

  40. not for lack of trying

    https://x.com/MrAndyNgo/status/2015549358566162560

remember those poisonous tendrils that Chris Rufo, noted, Marcuse, Angela Davis,
    Derrick Bell,

as to the particulars of this altercation, the address 2614 Nicollet seems to a rabbit warren of possible fraud, certainly its not a coincidence it happened here,

  41. Currently visiting dearly loved ones for a week in deep-blue upper-middle-class Seattle, where the consensus is that we are living under an actual dictatorship and that Trump will cancel the midterms. Please pray for me and especially for them.

  42. No it doesn’t give the left ammunition, they will stick to the murder by ICE again no matter what evidence emerges. The left has “their truth.” Get used to it, it never is about evidence of what happened.

    If you ask was
bringing a handgun to a “peacefull protest” necessary?

    They would answer

“Absolutely, ICE/CBP are Gestapo, Nazis, fat, low IQ, untrained bubbahs, not like us; defenders of all that is good and pure (or trans and twisted, oops).”

Thanks for the link, I’ll send it around. As to why the pistol that Saint Pretti brought with him on his final FAFO actually discharged, Sigg-Saurer hasn’t figured out why the P320s do that, and quite often. See Ian McCollum’s Forgotten Weapons Youtube site.

  43. MollyG:

But of course they have forgotten all the other elections that OMB was going to cancel. And yet in this dictatorship they somehow are free to express their opinions, unlike residents of Minneapolis or Seattlites in the CHAZ.

Be careful in the Seattle area, especially careful about saying what you actually think. Dictatorship indeed

  44. miguel:

They say Minneapolis could be their Falluja. I guess they have completely forgotten how Falluja turned out after the Marines went in the second time and the other Iraqi tribes turned on them.

Line ’em up. Squeeze ’em off. That was old school.

    Don’t take on the Feds.

It appears that LARPers are that stupid.

  45. There’s no reason why a law-abiding citizen could not take a legally owned and carried gun to a peaceful protest. Carrying a loaded gun while impeding law enforcement and fighting with them is what’s stupid.

  46. First rule of a gun fight is don’t be there. If I thought I might need a gun I wouldn’t go.

  47. The issue is not whether a person can legally carry a firearm to a protest.

This is not a legal question, it’s a political one.

It’s the optics and how the independents that voted for Trump and wanted illegal aliens deported are going to react. It’s likely the reaction is ‘sure we want illegals deported, but not that way.’

These videos may well be our “Four Dead in Ohio”. It was a powerful song that was a continuous reminder of the tragic shooting on Kent State. With our social media, this shooting will be on continuous replay.

  48. Kate, just because a majority of the populace thinks obstructing law enforcement is not a legitimate protest tactic, should not be taken to mean they support the killing of those obstructing law enforcement.

At best this was a tragic mistake. Watch the video showing the one agent (in gray) pulling the handgun from the rioter’s holster, while the agent at the back draws his weapon. As the agent in gray moves away, the second agents moves around and then begins shooting. His focus was on the agent in gray removing the gun and when he sees the gun being removed he draw his weapon. He had to see the gun had been removed.
Whether or not the rioter’s gun went off accidentally, the agent that opened fire saw that the gun had been removed by another agent, yet he opened fire.

If it was from the rioter’s gun accidentally going off, the sound would have been from behind the agent. Even if it was too chaotic for the agent to process where the sound was coming from, he still had to have known the rioter’s gun had been removed.

There may have been a legal justification, but I think many Americans will not approve of the shooting.

Listen to how Secretary Noem describes the incident and how the videos show it. This is the worst thing that could happen right now.

  49. Brian E:

Has forgotten what 48 hours is and based on one analysis by one dude has decided to go wobbly.

    Number 1 you weren’t there.

Number 2 the ICE bodycam videos are not released

Number 3 the video isn’t the investigation

Number 4 it is quite possible that the ICE LEOs did not know if the suspect at that time had any other firearms on him.

Don’t panic because you want to relive Kent State.

    Get a grip.

Or light your hair on fire.

    And change your Depends.

  50. Brian E also forgets that the left is likely not to stop with their violent “by any means necessary” approach.

They are bloody minded bastards, or have you forgotten Bill Ayers plans for the rest of us if he had succeeded after Kent State? You remember Billy’s plans for concentration and reeducation camps in the SW?

Don’t “”go wobbly means these may be times that try men’s souls.

The left won’t moderate and will escalate, count on it.

  51. The latest scam…

THIS sick scheme—installing scads of traffic cameras to make it easier for cities to ticket drivers, often wrongly, while at the same INCREASING the chances of collisions occurring—seems to have gone under the radar:

“Team Trump moves to ban traffic cameras in DC — as NYC’s set to quadruple the dangerous devices”—
    https://nypost.com/2026/01/26/opinion/team-trump-moves-to-ban-traffic-cameras-in-dc-as-nycs-set-to-quadruple-the-dangerous-devices/

    Key grafs:

…The dispute over red-light and speed cameras goes to the heart of the question of how much harm politicians are entitled to inflict while they shake money out of citizens’ pockets.…

…[DC Mayor] Bowser’s program was a smashing success: DC government revenue from traffic-camera fines rose almost ninefold, from $30 million in 2014 to nearly $270 million last year.

Regrettably, the number of traffic fatalities in DC doubled in the decade after Browser launched Vision Zero.

Red-light cameras spark traffic collisions because drivers stop suddenly to avoid being fined….

  53. Though as I recall that history, Kent State was also the end of the mass campus protests. However strong their anti-war convictions most young people decided they didn’t want to chance getting shot.

That, and the end of the draft. To a very large extent, those protests were less anti-war protests than they were anti-draft protests.

  54. @ HC68 > Agreed, and they were also anti-Nixon. Or more generally, they became (or were always) anti-Republican: look how all the anti-war protestors disappeared when Obama replaced Bush 2.
