…Meyer’s political commitments shaped his private life, too. He met his wife, Elsie, through Communist circles, and the two initially lived the revolutionary ideal, where even personal relationships served the mission. But cracks had already begun to appear. During World War II, Meyer’s Army service brought him into contact with ordinary Americans, far removed from the Marxian proletariat of theory. Exempt from combat due to corrective foot surgeries, he was assigned to library duty, where he began reading widely, including texts by the American Founders, which unsettled his ideological foundations and opened the door to doubt. One lightning bolt that struck him in the immediate aftermath of the war was Friedrich Hayek’s The Road to Serfdom (1944), an indictment of central planning’s inevitable slide into “a completely regimented society in which the individual would have no freedom and no real voice,” as Meyer, still nominally a Marxist, observed at the time.
By the late 1940s, Meyer’s disillusionment had hardened into conviction. Years of party discipline and enforced conformity convinced him the movement he once served could no longer claim to serve truth or freedom….
Neo, go over to the “Charismatic Voice” and watch Elizabeth’s latest, an analysis of your favoret singers, the Bee Gees. She goes fangirl all over them. You’ll love it.

When the usual suspects use words like “democracy”, “transparency”, “diversity” “the public good” and “human rights”, well you know you have to be very careful.
Very skeptical.
Laugh, perhaps…or even snort.
And it looks like “freedom” has joined that august list…
Believe it or Not, Seagulls are a huge part of the wildlife scene in Wyoming, where we were the last 2 summers. We caution the hikers (organized parties on a specific route to Martin’s Cove) to keep their food in plastic buckets or coolers, but not all of them listen. On one of our treks, a group parked their handcarts at the picnic pavilion, walked around the primary feature of the site which is foot-traffic only, and returned to find their lunches totally gone or destroyed by the seagulls happy to have the buffet delivered to them. Door Dash for the great out doors!
Fortunately, another couple of groups had enough extra food to share.
We doubled down on the warnings after that, and made sure they took us seriously.
The gulls on the coast of Wales will also take your fingers off if you don’t relinquish their plunder fast enough.
Pirates ought to fly flags with seagulls on them instead of the Jolly Roger.
I had exactly a “Cecil” moment a few weeks ago at a California beach area.
I had about a 2″ square piece of sandwich in my hand, and a gull swooped in from behind me and snatched it. It landed about 10 ft. away on concrete, threw the item down on the concrete where it separated into pieces. Then he picked up all the pieces except for the lettuce and flew away.
I could feel the lingering sensation of a line down my index finger where the point of his beak had grazed it. Then I noticed a yellow-brown smear on my pants. Did he poop on me? No, it was the mustard from the sandwich. I was rather entertained by it all.

…Richard Goldberg, a former White House and National Security Council staffer in both Trump administrations who spent a decade performing humanitarian aid oversight on Capitol Hill, told the Free Beacon the IPC standards are another example of U.N. malfeasance.
“If you keep pulling the thread here, you start to understand this is one of the greatest frauds ever perpetrated on the world,” said Goldberg, who now serves as a senior adviser at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies think tank. “There is no famine in Gaza—the data thresholds don’t support that claim—and yet we have the United Nations changing the rules to fit the desired political outcome.”

A month ago I sent an old San Francisco friend a link for The Charismatic Voice reviewing the Righteous Brothers’ classic, ” Unchained Melody.” It is one of the best reaction videos I’ve seen.
Today I heard back from him and he loved it too.
The Charismatic Voice is a young opera singer/vocal coach. At times she is a giggling schoolgirl in her love for the song, then she brings out her heavyweight analysis. She flat out says that Bobby Hatfield could have had a career as a countertenor opera singer.
BTW, turns out “Unchained Melody” was written for a prison movie, “Unchained” (1955).

My sister was mugged in Italy.
The seagull flew right at her face, and she threw up her hands to protect herself, and it snatched the sandwich out of them.
Years ago I had a seagull steal my lobster roll out of my hand in Kennebunkport. Lesson learned.
