Biden’s unaccompanied minor hotline went cold — 20 Comments

  1. I’m thinking of a Heinlein quote….

Now, where is my black flag?

  2. 65,000 is a huge number. But what were the total number of calls made? Or, what was the percentage of unanswered calls?

  3. @VitW– Something like this: ” “Every normal man must be tempted, at times, to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats.” ?

I think that was H L Mencken, but it does certainly bear consideration.

  4. There had to be people attempting to blow the whistle on this. Were they stifled?

  5. TommyJay:

Yes, I was wondering that, too. But a hotline with that many unanswered calls isn’t very hot.

  6. A mind is a difficult thing to change.

I’m sure that convincing these people that they aren’t the saints that they believe themselves to be would be a task of Herculean proportions.

  7. FOAF

Or care. If you don’t care, then the only issue is nobody else finding out.

  8. The distance between conspiracy theory and the “You have GOT to be KIDDING me!” reality is getting shorter by the day.
This just reeks of a child trafficking operation being run out of DC.

OK… tinfoil hat goes back in the box.

  9. that Democrat governance is a facade

You could have stopped right there. The frustrating thing is just how lazy they can be about it. That exchange will never be aired outside of conservative media, so how would they ever see it?

  10. Before I can muster up indignation about this number, I’d need to know how many total phone calls there were, and over what period of time, and in all the games of telephone played on all the blogs I’m not seeing those two numbers anywhere, nor in the video soundbite.

Was it over four years? If it’s a 24 hour hotline in operation all four years then that would mean an average of two calls per hour went unanswered. If those were the only two calls that came in, that would be a problem, but do they get 20 an hour? 200 an hour? 2000? And how does that percentage compare to say, suicide hotlines?

BOSWELL. Sir Alexander Dick tells me, that he remembers having a thousand people in a year to dine at his house: that is, reckoning each person as one, each time that he dined there.

JOHNSON. That, Sir, is about three a day.

BOSWELL. How your statement lessens the idea.

JOHNSON. That, Sir, is the good of counting. It brings every thing to a certainty, which before floated in the mind indefinitely.

BOSWELL. But Omne ignotum pro magnifico est: one is sorry to have this diminished.

JOHNSON. Sir, you should not allow yourself to be delighted with errour.

  11. Niketas:

The unanswered calls were from August of 2023 to January of 2025, about a year and a half. There was only one staffer on the hotline. Watch this.

  12. A couple of years ago, there were an estimated 80,000 NEW cases of ” Gender Dysphoria” in American minors in a single year. Pay no attention to the people pushing that nonsense propaganda on the kids driving up those numbers of confused kids.
What’s 60,000 unanswered calls to a child distress hotline?
What’s 80,000 new cases of Gender Dysphoria among American minors?
What’s hundreds of kids groomed in Rotterdam by Pakistani gangs ?
You gotta break a few eggs when you are trying to overthrow nations and build a leftist globalist world Utopia . Right ?
    Right ?

  13. @neo: Watch this.

Ok, while skipping through the grandstanding I may have missed some things, but if there’s no transcript there’s no transcript. So about 3 minutes in that’s the August ’23 – January ’25 timeline mentioned, and then

“Those [65,000 unanswered calls] spanned from complaints about stale bread all the way to being abused.” They know that because since January ’25 someone has since followed up on the unanswered calls. (We don’t have any numbers about what %-age of those calls are toward the “stale bread” end of the spectrum, of course.) One staffer is then mentioned, but no information about hours of staffing or if “one staffer” means one FTE or literally one individual human.

But doesn’t sound like a serious attempt to actually meet the need from what little has been shared here. 65,000 unanswered calls over about 18 months would be about 120 unanswered calls a day and if there really was only one person, they probably couldn’t answer more than 50 – 100 calls per day. So something like 50% – 75% of calls were unanswered, if there was only one staffer for 8 hours a day.

For context the Federal 988 crisis number answer rate is 64% – 97% depending on the state, according to Kaiser Family Foundation.

The Dem who spoke only wanted to talk about Epstein and DOGE so if there’s any more to the story we’re not getting it from her.

  14. Who is Ms. Hopper?

I originally took “unanswered” to mean the phone was literally unanswered (ie, it just rang and rang). But it sounds like the calls were answered and reports taken down, including calls reporting sexual abuse, but were never followed up on. Which I guess is worse.

  15. @Watt:But it sounds like the calls were answered and reports taken down, including calls reporting sexual abuse, but were never followed up on.

It’s unfortunate that there’s only a video. The calls WERE followed up on after January 2025, and I think that’s how they know what they were about; maybe there was a way to leave messages or something.

She said very specifically that 65,000 calls went “unanswered” and if only one staffer answered calls that makes perfect sense, since that would mean about 100 unanswered calls per day and most call centers don’t expect a staffer to answer more than 50-100 depending on what kind of call center they are.

I can’t see any way to get “the calls were answered and reports taken down” out of what she actually said, but without a transcript you have to take my word for it.

  16. “Unanswered” may mean voice mail, which squares the circle about how they knew what the call was about despite not answering.

Also, yeesh. Per the transcript, half of that clip is NJ Rep. LaMonica McIver (which the auto-generated transcript heard as “MacGyver”) ranting/throwing shade at the Trump administration.

Not a great surprise; she’s one of the Democrat politicians arrested for attacking an ICE facility in NJ. (Her rant includes a complaint that she wasn’t arrested, and while she’s still fighting the charge, it seems difficult to countenance the claim of no arrest.)

    ChatGPT claims that

“Miss Hopper” refers to Alicia Hopper, a nationally recognized counter-trafficking expert and consultant with Sadulski Enterprises, LLC.
