It’s Flag Day, Trump’s 79th birthday, and the 250th anniversary of the US Army
So let’s have a parade:
On June 14, 2025–the U.S. Army’s 250th birthday–the nation will honor its legacy with a grand military parade in Washington, D.C. President Donald J. Trump will join veterans, active-duty troops, wounded warriors, Gold Star Families, and Patriotic Americans from across the country to celebrate our heroes who have protected our country through strength and selflessness.
The left detests the entire idea and has planned a slew of protests:
Protesters are taking to the streets and community hubs nationwide on Saturday in what organizers expect will be the largest single-day anti-President Trump rally since the start of his second administration.
Why it matters: The widespread movement will run counter to Trump’s multimillion dollar military parade in D.C. June 14.
“No Kings is a nationwide day of defiance,” organizers wrote. “From city blocks to small towns, from courthouse steps to community parks, we’re taking action to reject authoritarianism.”
More than 100 pro-democracy advocacy groups are partnering to organize the No Kings events.
What they’re saying: “Donald Trump wants tanks in the street and a made-for-TV display of dominance for his birthday,” the No Kings website said.
They like authoritarianism just fine when it’s their authoritarianism, of course.
I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if the demonstrations involve some violence. The preparations:
Republican governors in Virginia, Texas, Nebraska and Missouri are mobilizing National Guard troops to help law enforcement manage demonstrations.
There will be “zero tolerance” for violence, destruction or disrupting traffic, and “if you violate the law, you’re going to be arrested,” Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin told reporters Friday.
In Missouri, Gov. Mike Kehoe issued a similar message, vowing to take a proactive approach and not to “wait for chaos to ensue.”
It’s hard to believe Trump is that age, but he is. He has more energy than most 40-year-olds.
neo: bad first link!
U.S. Army ~ 250 Years old today !
59 years ago today in 1966 I joined the Army for 4 years and after a year of training I was a High Speed, Morse Code Intercept operator also know as a Ditty-Bopper.
Don’t know if it is related to the demonstration or not, but some A-H shot 2 MN state legislators and their spouses in their home overnight. Still at large after short exchange of gunfire with police… Some are saying its “politically related”. Well, duh!
Old Tex: I went in 1967, learned to march and shoot. 🙂

The link works for me, so I’m not sure what the problem might be.
I too got a “sorry, no such page” return on a test of that first link just now.

They have to ruin everything
Happy birthday, U. S. Army! Where’s the cake?
Sadly even cspan has succombed to this ‘no kings’ foolishness
The local rag was full of letters about the Dictator Trump. Even K. Parker got in on the act. IF Trump was a Dictator, they would not be saying these things, instead it would be Gulag for you.
Happy Birthday Mr. President, and Happy Birthday US Army!
……..
“a parade” link is broken for me too.
I’m generally against marshal displays. It’s a form of national braggadocio. And they cost money better spent on more military equipment.
That said, it is the 250th birthday of the Army. Why not do it this once, and again in another 50 years. From an old Swaby, I say, “Happy Birthday, and Go Army!”
Such a complicated evolution presents numerous contingencies. How they are handled allows command to see who is prepared for the unexpected. Or not.
Happened to me with pass-in-review parade
About the simplest type there is. LT Phil forgot to show up. He lost big time.
It Aubrey, having a premonition, was prepared and covered.
Gold star for him. All done without loss of life.
Tank transporter doesn’t start? How prepared is the Motor Sergeant?
So forth.
what happens when you code website, on any of three screens, if you leave an eight character header, the site doesn’t appear,
Re: No Kings protests
* An eye in the sky video shows about 100 people marching loosely in Albuquerque.
* About 2000 in San Francisco are arranged on the beach spelling “No King” with an upside-down American flag.

Supposedly millions are supposed to show up in 2000 cities. We’ll see.
We had to go over to the south side of Denver (technically, Centennial) today, and about 10:00 we passed through a protest rally considerately standing on the sidewalks on four sides of a prominent intersection (each line was about half a block long).
Mostly old folks, but including all ages.
If you didn’t know what they were protesting (“Trump goes back in time to make sure he was born on flag day!!”- probably from the Bee), and didn’t see his name on any of the signs (clearly hand-made by this group), then there were a lot of things I have no problem with.
Flying flags on Flag Day (I didn’t see any upside down ones). Check.
“NO kings!” — we threw one out to GET that flag.
“Resist the oligarchs” – no problem with that. (Do they really not know who runs the Democrat party?)
Some veterans – always happy to see them out.
And a few other slogans which are perfectly acceptable – if you don’t know they ONLY apply to Republicans.
They had broken up when we came back by 3 hours later, but it is HOT in Denver today (80 degrees).
One of our riders was checking her phone, though, and a relative in Denver proper reported some disturbances. I pointed out that those people were paid to cause trouble.
This is what was supposed to happen; I didn’t get any hits with real-time coverage. The picture appears to be from a June 10 anti-ICE rally.

“Denver’s No Kings rally is scheduled to run from noon to 4 p.m. On top of being billed as a “nationwide day of defiance,” the Mile High gathering is also an activist fair, according to organizers. There will be music, games, educational classes and more on location as attendees display their feelings regarding the Trump administration and federal government.
Shortly after the No Kings rally, another ICE Out! protest is scheduled to take place at the Capitol at 5 p.m.”
Along with the Army birthday, today is also the 250th birthday of the United States Army Infantry Branch.

“There were other Democrats like Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) who attacked the event, claiming it is somehow a celebration by President Donald Trump of his birthday and that the cost of $45 million is too much. But they had been preparing for the event for the past two years. Plus, Democrats have absolutely no credibility when it comes to talking about costs, given everything they have wasted money on. They finally discovered discretion – when it’s about honoring our military. ”
First time I’ve seen the bolded claim, but checking with Wikipedia (in their usual anti-Trump leaning article) suggests “they” is the Army. Trump wanted to have the same sort of thing in his first term (not even on his birthday) but got no support from the Democrat controlled departments, and even some Republicans objected (as they do now).
IMO the only people conflating the date with Trump’s birthday are the same groups.
Also, the complaints about “this is what Russia and other dictators do” is so bogus to those of us who grew up watching normal Independence Day and other parades.
Maybe there’s a lot more firepower in this one, but so far no one I’ve read has pointed out that the massed weapons on display could have a salutary effect on Iran (particularly this week), China, and Russia.
why have they come to this crazy juncture, because some of the left, has absorbed the notion that the founding was not 1776, but 1619, thanks to that wretched screed, never mind major slave traffic didn’t even happen till the founding of the Royal African Company in 1660,
so obviously there’s nothing to celebrate cue Howard Zinn and apparently Jill lepore who has tried to update him
@AesopFan:complaints about “this is what Russia and other dictators do”
lol dictators like the King of England, whose parade is also today.
Enjoying the parade, but cringing every time the announcer says “calvary”.
yeah its not a hard to say,

Just drove through a protest/No Kings rally. It was in a middle to upper-middle class suburb. The rally wasn’t large and the traffic wasn’t all too bad because of it. Got through it under 5 minutes. I just chuckled; I didn’t know such rallies were scheduled for today.
..”what Russia and other dictators do”
France, for example:

HELLO–daughter just arrived at LAX. She came in from Mexico. She called to tell me that there are no employees working in CUSTOMS. TSA is still staffed, but the customs area is empty–they are just letting everyone come through.
Is there someone here who can find out what is going on at LAX?
Here are Chat’s numbers (from web links) for the big city No Kings protests:
Los Angeles: about 20,000–25,000
San Diego: around 60,000
New York City: roughly 50,000
Philadelphia: estimated at 80,000
That’s only 215,000. Unless there is high turnout in smaller cities, that’s not going to cut it for getting to “millions” as the organizers claimed. Plus it has been a hot day over much of the country.
