  1. “If you’re a person who ovulates…” Grrr.

A mix of science (maybe, re fraternal) and silly metaphor (re identical).

I’ve read that the occurrence of identical twins is not the result of a genetic predisposition, but I’m not sure. Among my in-laws, there is an identical twin. Her twin had identical twins. She also has first cousins who are identical twins. Maybe it’s just a coincidence.

  2. @Watt:Among my in-laws, there is an identical twin. Her twin had identical twins. She also has first cousins who are identical twins. Maybe it’s just a coincidence.

The rate is about 3.5 per 1000 births. For an identical twin to have identical twins, if that happens at random at that same rate, then that’s about 12 in one million. There’s been 3-4 million births per year in this country for the last 30 years; about every year there should be around 25 people born who are an identical twin and will give birth to an identical twin.

It’s a big country. Odds against winning Powerball are higher but SOMEONE does.

  3. I agree with Watt. “If you’re a person who ovulates . . .” is where I quit listening.

  5. I agree with Watt. “If you’re a person who ovulates . . .” is where I quit listening.

Same – I clicked off as soon as she said that. If you are going to discuss biology and biological science and yet you can’t say the word “female” or “woman”, then you are wasting my time.

  6. it seems like pythonesque absurdity, even though they mainstreamed absurdity by ridiculing conventional behavior, how did we arrive at this crazy place,
actual medical science and basic biology was prioritizd to the transgender agenda,

  7. whats the word, that comes to mind ‘shibboleth’ words you can’t say, ‘genocide’ on the other hand is a word one can used promiscuously, and erroneously in many circumstance, when it should be reserved for grave occasions, just slightly lower on the scale ‘threat to democracy’ ‘no evidence’ when it’s right in front one’s face,

  8. @miguel cervantes:best frank drebin impression

There’s a sense in which he’s right: it’s not an emergency in the sense it’s being portrayed. It’s Leftist business as usual with the emphasis on “business”.

Pre-printed signs, pallets of bricks delivered in advance, paid for by NGOs getting government grants. Some largish faction of government is basically okay with this stuff, or they’d shut off the money with some phone calls.

These groups are using online payment processors such as PayPal and Stripe, they take Visa and Mastercard. They’re in violation of the terms of service, and they seem strangely unconcerned, and it seems no one in the government is asking Pay Pal, Stripe, Visa, or Mastercard to interrupt their flow of funds.

  9. What about Trump calling up the National Guard? Is it legal? When they first started talking about it my first thought was U.S. troops can’t be used on U.S. soil against U.S. citizens. I’m sure there are exceptions.

Is it legal? The leftist democrats say its not legal. What do you guys think?
While many of these “protesters” are waving Mexican flags, I’m not sure if they are all Mexicans. In fact I’m fairly sure they aren’t all Mexicans. There is evidence that many are the normal agitators and communist seen at most protests.

  10. John:

Legal, and has been done before:

Throughout the Civil Rights era, Presidents Eisenhower, Kennedy, and Johnson federalized the National Guard under Title 10 U.S. Code to enforce the expansion of civil rights and to ensure public order. Notable incidents include the desegregation of Central High School in Little Rock in 1957, the University of Mississippi in 1962, the University of Alabama and Alabama public schools in 1963. The Alabama National Guard was also called into federal service for the Selma-Montgomery March in 1965. • Beginning with the Detroit Riots in 1967, presidents federalized the National Guard to support law enforcement agencies in response to civil unrest. The King Assassination Riots in 1968, the New York Postal Strike in 1970, and the Los Angeles Riots in 1992 were the last incidents in which a president federalized the National Guard for civil disturbance operations.

  11. Not federal service, but the Alabama National Guard was called in by then-governor Gordon Persons to clean up organized crime in Phenix City, AL after the assassination of attorney general-elect Albert Patterson in 1954. Persons also put the city under limited martial law. The assassination inspired a 1955 film noir: “The Phenix City Story”, with John McIntyre as Albert Patterson, Richard Kiley as his son (and future Alabama governor) John, and Edward Andrews as the local crime boss. Not a bad flick.
