I could do most of those, individually, but I’d need to work on the “click.” And it would take lots of practice to use those sounds easily in speech.
Many people don’t think about the hundreds of different ethnic groups and languages in sub-Saharan Africa. Here, they all get lumped together as “black,” but there, these ethnic and linguistic differences are very clear.
That is a fun video.
The markets today are still on an express elevator going down. Additionally, bitcoin is down about 65% from its highs not long ago.
The Solution was a Libertarian-ish book written by Leon Leow and his wife, Frances Kendall. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/7981277-south-africa
It advocated Swiss style cantons for all of the 11 tribes of South Africa, plus (or including?) the two White tribes of Afrikaner Boers & British. It remains a great idea, and could have been used to reduce civil wars.
I met them at a conference in 1987.
There are hundreds of tribes in Africa, and post-colonial Euro-based boundaries are seldom congruent to actual tribal boundaries.
The clicking sound was very prominent in the fine Bushman comedy: “The Gods Must Be Crazy.”
A wonderful phrase from Victor Davis Hanson, in his article about how California went so wrong:
More specifically, the common denominator was the emergence in California of a selfish, monied, left-wing political class. In concrete terms, it cared little for others but masked that unconcern with abstract leftism, emulating medieval penance and indulgences to assuage guilt over its enjoyment of sheltered and very good lives.
Penances and indulgences is a great description for all those BLM donations from large companies and sports teams, in an effort to pretend to care.
There are hundreds of tribes in Africa, and post-colonial Euro-based boundaries are seldom congruent to actual tribal boundaries.
You could have made about three dozen adjustments in boundaries in Africa to reduce the number of situations where a tribe was split by a frontier and reduce the number of ill-considered or behemothic assemblages, but all African countries are polyglot and you’re never going to get around that. African countries would have benefited as well from the piecemeal transfer of sovereignty over 4 or 5 decades, rather than the pell mell departure of imperial officials in 1960. ‘Twas not to be.
to assuage guilt over its enjoyment of sheltered and very good lives.
I doubt those people feel guilty. They just despise ordinary people.
I can be a bit slow but I thought the Jan. 6 show last Thursday was going to be it. Yeah, I knew the hearings would go on but surely, I assumed, they’d be covered by the cable networks and online. Surely, I assumed, the major networks wouldn’t continue to pre-empt regular programming to cover this nonsense.
Nope. ABC, CBS, and ABC are going wall-to-wall apparently with the Jan. 6 hearings. I’m legitimately flabbergasted.
Can anyone come up with a better way for the Democrats and their allies to make themselves look more out of touch and indifferent to what real people actually care about? Inflation is out of control, the southern border is a disaster, we’re flirting with actual war with Russia, a recession is looming, crime and violence are surging in major cities, we’re staring down a decades-long mental health crisis from lockdown policies…and THIS is what Democrats are telling voters is their #1 priority?

Burn Back Better!!
Looks like “Biden”‘s incendiary policies have expanded into ACTUALLY burning down the country.
(Probably the only HONEST policy decision “he”‘s made so far…)
That would require an opposition party that isnt betraying us in word and deed
Mike, once again it’s a matter of Democratic Party priorities.
Think of it as a not-so-veiled threat against anyone who speaks out against the Democratic Party, against the “Narrative, against their “betters”…. Who dares protest. Who dares send messages to blogs like this one (though I suppose the BeeGees will still be OK, maybe not—who knows what subversive message may crop up when you play THEM backward…)
The Democrats and their media orcs have GOT to get the plebes in line, scared, and distracted. And wanting. And limited in their options because “How’m I gonna feed my kids??”
They’ve left democracy in the dust and have embraced the lust for total power at any cost.
Here’s Lee Smith: https://twitter.com/EpochTimes/status/1536101038209609729?cxt=HHwWgsC9ma7wqdEqAAAA https://www.theepochtimes.com/there-could-be-a-much-darker-meaning-to-jan-6-show-trials-lee-smith_4527605.html

(Once those blackouts—rolling or otherwise—kick in this summer, we’ll have lots of time…)
“Maybe it’s time to reread “1984” AND “Lord of the Rings”…just as a reminder.”
I would add rewatching The Hunger Games as it portrays the elite and their attitude to the unwashed. And, especially to remind ourselves that those on “our side” may have their own agenda that is not necessarily that same as ours; ie all the RINOs.
That’s interesting and a little unsurprising that the MSM is going for broke on the J6 show. Although, … there is some indications that those media folks are paying attention to the real disasters in our country and the Biden blame shifting.
I hope I’m wrong but I am worried that the Dem strategy will be effective. Abortion hysteria, J6, and mass shootings are going to push a lot of buttons.
Absolutely the J6 show is misdirection or distraction. It also occurred to me that maybe the whole J6 business, include the jailings and prosecutions is really about election fraud. I think significant election fraud has been part of the Dem landscape since at least the Nixon/Kennedy election in 1960.
I don’t know how true this next point is, but I don’t recall having seen an election in California where the GOP won by a small fraction of a percent. The Dems can always move a quarter or half a percent after election night if they want, in California.
January 6 was motivated by election fraud. The Dems are making it clear; aggressive protesting of election fraud will be crushed. And then we’ll make you pay again in the court of public opinion.
which district are you in, I’m in district 8 the rebelliious one,
The problem with the distraction theory is that it is JUNE. The election is in November. No matter how effective Democrats could possibly be diverting people’s attention now, it’s going to be impossible to keep it up for five months.
I think this is just a structural problem that affects Beltway Republicans as well. A combination of social media, income inequality, and being insulated from the real economy has created an elite class that can’t see and doesn’t care about what affects most of their fellow citizens.
Mike
I hope I’m wrong but I am worried that the Dem strategy will be effective. Abortion hysteria, J6, and mass shootings are going to push a lot of buttons.
Under more normal circumstances I think any 1 or all of those Dem-Media distractions might have been somewhat effective. But my gut tells me that things are quite different and far from normal at the moment. We’ve now moved far past the effectiveness of the narrative spinning that Democrats and their media allies have traditionally used to sway public opinion.
Day by day the vast majority of people are feeling the increasing weight of inflation. It’s decreasing people’s quality of life and casting a grim pall of uncertainty and doubt about the future. I’ve seen poll after poll indicating that an overwhelming majority of Americans believe we’re heading in the wrong direction.
And I don’t see any sort of miracle on the horizon to save the Democrats and the Biden administration. I certainly don’t expect Biden to do anything that would be positively effective. I expect that he and/or his handlers will continue to steer the ship towards the rocks and even step on the accelator. Whether by stupidity or malice, they’re fully committed to our destruction.
“…heading in the wrong direction….”
Well, yes, it is encouraging; but the Democratic Party message, doctored and drilled into your eyes and ears—and consciousness—24/7 is: “We BELIEVE IN America! We are WORKING FOR America!! We may be going on occasion in the wrong direction, possibly—life isn’t always simple, things don’t always go the way you want them to; but Trump and his deluded, violent, racist, sexist, psychotic, ANTI-AMERICAN supporters are obviously fascists whose goal is to destroy OUR PRECIOUS Democracy, as we will clearly demonstrate day in, day out from now until eternity (or until we finally stamp out those Trumpist vermin, whichever comes first…) Ahem… And so OUR fellow Americans—OUR fellow TRUE Americans—the choice is YOURS: we may be, um, imperfect—we’re not afraid to admit it—but YOUR alternative is the DESTROYER, the ENEMA—er, ENEMY–OF THE PEOPLE, the ENEMY OF the US of A, the ENEMY OF US ALL…. Just so we’re clear, is your position now that the Uvalde police department did NOTHING wrong? That all of the people on the scene and at the time who were upset with police behavior were incorrect?
And hey! It turns out that the Uvalde school police chief may not have been an entirely straight shooter when he described…TWO AND A HALF WEEKS LATER…what happened during the massacre.
Speaking of Africa; if no part of sub-saharan Africa had ever been colonized, how would Africa look today??
What would be their socio-economic standing amongst the world’s nations?
What would be their level of technology and educational level today?

I have made it crystal clear in post after post and comment after comment. But since you don’t seem to have caught it, I’ll repeat it again: I have said the whole thing seems to have been disorganized and chaotic, with poor communication. The problem they had with keys is puzzling and strange, and may or may not have been the fault of the police; I don’t know yet. And I have said many times I will condemn them and fault them if I learn enough to know. I have no particular reason to defend or condemn them prematurely, and it’s very premature regarding the keys and a host of other things.
It’s not premature to say they were disorganized and communication was poor. I have said that before.
That linked piece makes a false and cruel analogy, and a stupid one. The Uvalde police were never faced with the situation of that Georgia case, and if they had been I have little doubt they would have tried to shoot the guy. The very first problem – and it certainly wasn’t the fault of the Uvalde police – was the open outer door. In Georgia, fortunately, the outer doors were locked. The perp never even got into the school.
And I have also written that the parents who were upset that day have my full empathy and I have never condemned them or even criticized them. But I criticize those of us who weren’t there and who aren’t part of that community who read what is written in the MSM and look at it uncritically this time – even though we know how much they get wrong and how much they distort – without thinking of all the things that are unsaid and unasked, things we need to know before making judgments.
One of my clients had an au-pair from South Africa, and I once spoke with her about the languages of South Africa. She had learned some of them in school as a child, and, believe me, it’s just bizarre as hell to hear a click (as in !Xhosa) come out of a Boer face as it is to be in a Chinese restaurant and hear some American boy-or-girl next door type order in fluent Mandarin.
Sorry…I take it back….
This is so outrageous it’s almost funny…
‘Biden economic adviser says White House hasn’t ‘missed much at all’ on inflation’— https://www.foxnews.com/media/biden-economic-adviser-white-house-hasnt-missed-much-inflation

We have a team, and I know you’re pushing in a different direction, but I think looking forward this is what’s most important. We have a team of seasoned people here led by a president who believes that we have to do everything,” Bernstein said. “We don’t sit on our hands and hope that these forecasts for stable growth and inflation slowing down come true.”
‘He said that he’s “never done more” in his career to help with supply.
‘”Head down, continue to do all we can to fight inflation. The fact that we have a highly competent group here working to do this is extremely different than just trying to spin things and say who got right what at what time,” Bernstein added….’
What is going here?
(Seems like a serious, perhaps even terminal, case of Brainwash Back Better….)
Tom Grey, yes, I immediately thought of The Gods Must Be Crazy.
I loved that movie. A breath of fresh air.
” … it’s just bizarre as hell to hear a click (as in !Xhosa) come out of a Boer face as it is to be in a Chinese restaurant and hear some American boy-or-girl next door type order in fluent Mandarin.”
Once you’re accustomed to it, not bazaar at all. I spent a career as a US diplomat and hearing this became common place. My white Deputy Chief of Mission from the cornfields of Illinois speaking fluent Amharic at an Ethiopian resto in N’Djamena, Chad, sure surprised the waitress, or friends speaking Romanian to the waitress in an Iraqi resto in London. My Mexican American 1/2 Navajo colleague in South Africa chatting in perfect Zulu in Durban sure did catch people by surprise. Or when I would respond to taxi drivers in Niger in Zarma. All great fun to watch their faces.
You may call me Nkunzemhlophe, my Zulu name given to me by the King when posted in South Africa, or Nshimirimana, my Kirundi name from Burundi.
And Neo and Phillip: his voice is fairly typical among many Zulu men. You should hear their choirs there!
Thank you Neo for the video. It brought back wonderful memories from a country, that for all of its troubles, I truly loved.

The tragedy in Uvalde unfolded because of some bad decisions and also because of a lot of bad luck. After I watched the clicking video at the top of this post I was lucky to have this video as the next suggestion. I agree that was the both the motivation and is now the underlying message. But the more they try to enforce that message, the greater the blowback will be. Trying to crush 80+ MILLION pissed off Americans would prove to be a fatal error for them.

But sanity still, at times, prevails…
“MSNBC host who offered Dems advice on how to get BBB passed says Joe Manchin should be thanked for blocking it”—
https://twitchy.com/dougp-3137/2022/06/13/msnbc-host-who-offered-dems-advice-on-how-to-get-bbb-passed-says-joe-manchin-should-be-thanked-for-blocking-it/
Key graf:
‘MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough spoke with former Obama “car czar” Steve Rattner today and both agreed that Democrat Sen. Joe Manchin basically saved the country from further economic damage by not supporting the bulk of Biden’s “Build Back Better”…’
Not everyday you get to see a baby manatee….
https://nypost.com/video/motherless-baby-manatee-rescued-in-sweet-video/
One of my clients had an au-pair from South Africa, and I once spoke with her about the languages of South Africa. She had learned some of them in school as a child, and, believe me, it’s just bizarre as hell to hear a click (as in !Xhosa) come out of a Boer face as it is to be in a Chinese restaurant and hear some American boy-or-girl next door type order in fluent Mandarin.
More sanity. Hey, maybe it’s contagious…
Hope so…
I have no idea who this guy is, but…
“Jake Paul rips ‘incomprehensible’ President Biden, supporters over inflation”—
https://nypost.com/2022/06/13/jake-paul-rips-president-biden-supporters-over-inflation/
Sorry…I take it back….
This is so outrageous it’s almost funny…
‘Biden economic adviser says White House hasn’t ‘missed much at all’ on inflation’—
https://www.foxnews.com/media/biden-economic-adviser-white-house-hasnt-missed-much-inflation
Key grafs (take a deep breath):
‘…”I don’t think the White House missed much at all in the following sense.
Biting the hand that fed you, Chelsea Manning edition….
“Chelsea Manning opens up about rift with ‘dangerous’ Glenn Greenwald”—
https://nypost.com/2022/06/13/chelsea-manning-details-rift-with-dangerous-glenn-greenwald/
…wherein Ms. Manning unabashedly, even proudly, demonstrates just how much of a nutcase she is.
(But I guess that when you feel yourself to be a perennial victim and you discover that there are people who DO disagree with you, then you can allow yourself to behave like a total lunatic.)
The tragedy in Uvalde unfolded because of some bad decisions and also because of a lot of bad luck. After I watched the clicking video at the top of this post I was lucky to have this video as the next suggestion. It’s about a woman who treaded water for about 12 hours off the coast of California until her very lucky rescue. Her rescuer details all the ways that luck was on her side.

his name is bradley, no matter what he calls himself now raymond luxury yacht, they were really scraping the barrrel when they let him into the army in 2007, and he pulled a christopher boyce,
two of the most celebrated african kingdoms were the songhai and ashanti*, both were the amazon and ebay of the slave trade,
*as rassem kassam pointed out, their kinte cloth, was what pelosi and the rest of the progs were brandishing, ironically baden powell is painted as the villain for reasons, even though he put them out of business,
ht xhosa is apparently the language of mythical wakanda in the black panther films, you would think zulu considering the discussions about isandwanda,
which was the dialect, that most difficult to learn, telemachus
That clicking language would have made a great substitute for the Navajo Code Talkers.
MBunge,
“Can anyone come up with a better way for the Democrats and their allies to make themselves look more out of touch and indifferent to what real people actually care about?”
Napoleon advised, “Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake.”
TommyJay,
“January 6 was motivated by election fraud. The Dems are making it clear; aggressive protesting of election fraud will be crushed. And then we’ll make you pay again in the court of public opinion.”
I agree that was the both the motivation and is now the underlying message. But the more they try to enforce that message, the greater the blowback will be. Trying to crush 80+ MILLION pissed off Americans would prove to be a fatal error for them.
Guess what the Obamas purportedly requested a permit for on their Martha’s Vineyard mansion property? A 2,500 gallon propane tank.
It would look something like this and weighs 3.3 tons empty,
