Russiagate: It’s both the crime and the coverup
A saying that became popularized in relation to Watergate was, “It’s not the crime, it’s the coverup.” For Watergate, that was apropos. The actual crime of breaking into Democratic National Committee headquarters palled compared to the efforts to cover it up – such as Nixon’s wanting the FBI to tamp down its investigation. That, coupled with the full court anti-Nixon press by the press, as well as the fact that many Republicans became in favor of impeaching and convicting Nixon, was what led to his resignation.
The press considered themselves dragonslayers, and several generations of young people went into journalism hoping for a repeat of something similarly big. Taking down a president they considered bad would be nice, but in addition they saw themselves as soldiers in a cause. The cause was liberalism which morphed almost seamlessly into leftism.
Fast forward to the Donald Trump candidacy and then the Donald Trump election. To Democrats and the press he was the enemy, and not just any garden-variety Republican enemy. They saw him as a uniquely dangerous enemy. And so they united in an attempt to bring him down, ruining the careers of some innocent people along the way, and proving that many of our seemingly trustworthy agencies were hopelessly compromised, in a relentless five-year campaign that was built on lies, undermined the country, and succeeded in turning many people against Trump who might otherwise have given him a fair chance and even approved of many of the things he did as president.
And the MSM patted themselves on the back and gave themselves Pulitzers for their great achievement.
I’ve written many times before about the Watergate-to-Russiagate comparison; just do a search for “Watergate” on this blog and you’ll find them. One of those posts (from September 2021) included this:
Two years ago I wrote a post entitled “Is Russiagate worse than Watergate?” It began this way: “Yes, it is. And not just worse; much worse.” I suppose I could now add another “much” or two – or three or four – to that second sentence. At the time I wrote that post, most of what we knew had to do with the co-opting of government agencies into the Russiagate hoax. Now we’re learning more about individuals such as lawyers and “journalists” and their roles, and of course Hillary Clinton and her aides, and how the whole thing fit into the seamless whole of a hugely influential and corrupt power structure.
So in a way I suppose I’ve said everything already. But here’s still another post, because the revelations keep getting worse. Astoundingly enough – because I gave up long ago on the investigation, and still doubt that much will come of it that will change anything – the Durham investigation marches on at a pace that would make a snail’s progress look speedy. Some of the most recent news about the machinations and plots known as Russiagate follow.
Among the reason the media might want to cover the developments in John Durham's criminal probe of the fraudulent Alfa Bank story and the crimes committed to spread it: the Clinton 2016 official at the heart of it is now Biden's National Security Advisor in charge of Ukraine. pic.twitter.com/OpBk4AdDcL

The MSM is pretending this didn’t happen – of course, since they are co-conspirators.
Here’s a British look at the situation.
Some of the evidence can be found here.
I was surprised to see these poll results:
The poll, taken by TechnoMetrica Institute of Policy and Politics in New Jersey last month, asked 1300 people about what they thought about the Durham probe. What was astonishing was that almost 3/4 of those polled who were following the story wanted prosecutors to investigate her and members of her campaign for manufacturing dirt on President Donald Trump. What was most surprising about those numbers was that included 66 percent of Democrats who were following the story, a jump in 20 points from October. Among Republicans, the number was 91 percent. Among independents, it was 65 percent.
Yes, but – what percentage of Americans are following the Durham probe? Since the MSM is hardly covering it, the people who know anything about current developments are either on the right or at least read news sources on the right and are probably simpatico with them to a certain extent. In an admittedly quick perusal, I haven’t yet located a link to the poll itself, so I can’t say what sort of response rate they got.
I would be very surprised if most Democrats have heard about what’s been going on recently in the Durham probe, except perhaps that some low-level players did something-or-other that may have been slightly wrong. But all in a good cause, right?
Russiagate is indeed much, much worse than Watergate, just as the great scare (from the unspeakably corrupt DHS and FBI/DOJ) about “white supremacy”/”domestic extremists” is far, far worse than the so-called “Red Scare” of the era of McCarthy, who, although personally unappealing and somewhat inclined to hyperbole, was, on the whole, more right than wrong. Now that HRC seems once again inclined to make herself publicly discussed (perhaps for 2024?), it will be incumbent on the mendacious and meretricious MSM to ignore her egregious part in this shameful and sordid affair.
“I would be very surprised if most Democrats have heard about what’s been going on recently in the Durham probe, except perhaps that some low-level players did something-or-other that may have been slightly wrong. But all in a good cause, right?”
It doesn’t have to be only ‘slightly’ wrong. The ‘rightness’ of their ’cause’ justifies any actions whatsoever. Once again proving that “well intentioned” people can fully embrace evil.
Children wrested away by the State from wrong thinking parents.
60 MILLION murdered* babies.
“Disturbing video from NYC…”

*murder is the appropriate label, demonstrated by the reality that among pro-‘choice’ advocates if the fetus is wanted, congratulations abound in expectations of a precious baby… but if unwanted, it’s no better than a piece of trash to be thrown out without burial.
I have a friend with whom we get together every couple of weeks, and this guy follows current events pretty well. When I mentioned the Steele dossier the other day, he said ‘what’s that?’. I was surprised. I know he hates Trump but for someone who follows news not to have heard of the Steele dossier? Goes to show, Neo, just how true your last paragraph is.
I don’t watch much television but when I do I’m actually more interested in CNN and MSNBC to see what they’re talking about (and equally, what they’re not talking about). I know of no person who are NY Times, MSNBC imbibers who would even surf over to Fox. Fox, to them, is all ‘faux’ news meant to get the deplorables excited.
I think that basically so many see Trump as so horrible that any means, any means, were/are on the table to thwart him. They would say Trump was a case where ‘the Constitution is not a suicide pact’.
As far as Durham goes, I think he knows what he’s doing and what he’s up against. It’s a slow peeling away the layers – layers that don’t want to be peeled – to put the whole story together.
This went around the internet after this story broke. I think it helps clarify the magnitude of what’s happened.
Obama knew.
Clinton knew.
Biden knew.
Comey knew.
Brennan knew.
McCabe knew.
Strzok knew.
Clapper knew.
Schiff knew.
FBI knew.
DOJ knew.
CIA knew.
State knew.
They all knew Trump was innocent but they smeared and spied on him.
M Williams:
Something similar happened to me about two-three years into Russiagate. Someone very smart, very well-read, keeps up on the news but mainly from the MSM and somewhat leftist online sources, didn’t have a clue what I was talking about when I referred to the FISA court. I was explaining something about Russiagate and assuming this person knew at least the basic issues involved, but at that point I realized that was not the case. I would have had to speak about it for an hour nonstop to get this person up to speed on the basics, which seemed impossible to do because the person wasn’t about to listen to a lecture from me.
And this is what the left and the MSM count on.
I hate to say this…but while this WAS all about Trump & an effort (failed thank God) to stop him from becoming POTUS the first time, I don’t think it can be about Trump any longer.
It now has to become about bringing to swift & perhaps summary justice those who orchestrated this overthrow of all the Constitution was written to avoid. As JimNorCal notes…
Obama knew.
Clinton knew.
Biden knew.
Comey knew.
Brennan knew.
McCabe knew.
Strzok knew.
Clapper knew.
Schiff knew.
FBI knew.
DOJ knew.
CIA knew.
State knew.
Somebody, all these body”s” needs to face treason charges perhaps & the proper result of that charge.
THEN we need to go back and re-ask the questions of the 2020 election apart from Trump & do it again.
This isn’t worse than I thought.
How many? They interviewed 1300. There’s your answer.
A serious question, who here hasn’t thought this is much worse?
There was no serious interest by Republicans to do anything. That’s been obvious. You are Hillary, and you skate on intentionally hiding your Secretary of State activity from the American public and Congress without so much as a peep, and that was admitted in the investigation to you storing the highest levels of state secrets on an unsecured server in a restroom that resulted in an “administrative punishment” of “we can’t wait to vote for you as President”. Why would you feel constrained from bugging the White House?
We were told it was wrong to collude with Russia, but the Hillary campaign new about the British Steele dossier before Trump. When has it been ok in US election law to collude with the UK or any foreign country? Did you hear anyone squawk about it? Nope, but the allegations in the dossier needed serious investigation.
This is going on with a majority made up highly elected members of both parties. None are making a peep about violation of law that would be heresy just a couple of decades ago. Well one person, Trump, and he is being investigated for insurrection. Heck, the one FBI agent, punished for lying in affidavit that lead to wrongful imprisonment of a Trump official, had his full pension restored by Congress. Do you think, other than a campaign stump speech, that anything will come of a revelation that Hillary had tapes of Trump’s conversations in the Oval Office?
neo, in her response to M Williams stated, “Someone very smart, very well-read, keeps up on the news” then shared, “the person wasn’t about to listen”
I contend that someone who is not willing to give a fair hearing to contrary, easily verified information is neither smart, well read nor keeps up on the news. Rather, at best they are ignorant, closed minded and willfully blind.
John Guilfoyle,
Absent civil war or a military coup, neither swift nor summary justice for those who orchestrated this overthrow of the Constitution will occur. Far too many RINOs for that to eventuate.
Leland,
It is far worse than current revelations yet reveal.
I’m not at all surprised about the latest revelations of the Durham investigation. Nor am I surprised by the lack of interest by the MSM or the ignorance of “well-informed” people. I am a little surprised however, that Durham is uncovering the nuts and bolts of exactly how the Clinton campaign spied on Trump. I don’t expect much to come of this investigation but I am wondering why this amount of detail would be uncovered at all when it could be quite easily covered up.
What is the purpose of knowing how Clinton conducted her spying campaign if nothing is to be done about it?
NS:
No, that’s not my answer. I’d have to see how many people – of the ones they initially contacted – said they are not following the probe. And also if that “don’t know” percentage was higher among the Democrats they contacted than among the Republicans..
Geoffrey Britain:
You truncated what I said. I did NOT say the person wasn’t willing to listen at all. I said the person wasn’t willing to listen to me give an hour-long lecture on it.
That’s quite a difference.
Geoffrey Britain:
On reflection, I’d probably have to give a 3-hour lecture at least to fill in all the gaps.
Gregory Harper:
The purpose is that perhaps people will learn how corrupt these people and these institutions are. I’m not especially optimistic about it, though.
I think Ymarsakar’s Dark State just voted Hildabeast off the island. They don’t want her around for 2024.
If I recall correctly, Nixon has no role in the break-in of the Watergate offices of the DNC; he learned the details after the fact .
His crime was lying to the FBI; he told them that he had zero knowledge of the break-in, even though by the time he was being questioned by the FBI, he knew most of the details .
So basically, he lied ( the term used by demokrats/media when republicans mis-speak) or you can say, he “mis-spoke (the term used by demokrats when a demokrat lies).
He resigned the presidency because he did not want to be impeached.
Clinton was impeached, and guess what happened him?
Nothing at all.
If a president cannot be removed from office via impeachment, then what the hell is the point?
This Russia / Trump / Hillary affair is tantamount to treason; it was a non-violent effort to overthrow a duly elected President. Hillary, the DNC, the media, the FBI, CIA, NSA, State Dept., were all conspirators in this effort.
Anyway, just watch. NOBODY of note will go to jail. They may jail (or more likely levy a fine or disbar) some low levels folks engaged in this coup d’etat, but that’s it. Hillary and the top folks in this conspiracy will walk free as a bird.
The junkies will be in trouble, but the drug pushers/suppliers will be left alone.
Also discouraging is some top Republican stating that if they reclaim the Senate, they will hold public hearings.
Give me a break, what a total F’n joke; the magnitude of the stupidity of Republicans is limitless.
First off, the media will ignore the hearings; it will be a major non-event (think the Biden/Ukraine/China “non- affair”) that never happened. If the media does not report it, it never happened.
Congress does not have the ability to issue indictments ; so what will hearings accomplish in terms of actually punishing the crimes?
Oh, that’s right, nothing at all.
If the Republicans had the brains of a pebble, they would immediately assign several more (2, 5, 10, whatever) special prosecutors and go after ALL the major players in the conspiracy, including barry HUSSEIN Ocommie, who certainly knew what was going on.
Let him, a la Nixon, lie to investigators.
But alas, one can only dream.
First they put kids in cages.
Then they put steaks.
Ladies and Gentlemen, It’s Biden Time!
