Biden says there’s no federal solution for COVID — 20 Comments

  1. Stay home if you’re sick.

    Otherwise live your life.

    Solved it!

P.S.- Same was true in March 2020.

  2. Do people not realize this was Trump’s approach and Biden campaigned on the opposite approach? Or is it all just politics and no one really cared as long as it was not Trump saying whatever.

  3. I have been reading that the Omicron variant “goes around” the vaccines. So if you are vaccinated you can get Omicron.

  4. Compare and contrast:
    1.

They’re going to have to change that first article to
“COVID Lockdowns Will Be Remembered As One Of The Greatest Policy SUCCESSES Ever”—

That’s right: SUCCESS above and beyond the Democratic Party’s wildest dreams of destruction and subjugation. Of CONTROL.

They’re not “there” quite yet, not quite; but they’re gunning for even greater SUCCESS.

    File under: “Darkness visible”

  5. Neo: “For that matter, unless a person is very ill from something else to begin with, or is mega-old, there isn’t much of a risk even from the other COVID variants, statistically speaking.”

What is “mega-old? 70, 80, 90? In my county, 45% of those over 80 who were hospitalized, died. We don’t know how many people over 80 caught it and didn’t go to the hospital. My sister-in-law, who is 89, got it. But she would not have known if she wasn’t in a nursing home where they tested her frequently. Her case was that mild. And it was the Alpha variant.

One of the great mysteries of this virus is why some people are affected more than others. Yes, obesity is a definite issue. But so is ethnicity. In my county ethnicity has had a major role.
Snohomish County COVID-19 Case Rate per 1,000 by Race and Ethnicity
    Pacific Islanders 175
    Hispanics 99
    Native American 96
    African American 86
    White 44
    Asian 34
If I was a medical researcher, I would be looking at this as offering some clue as to how to find what factors lend themselves to being more susceptible to the infection. Or possibly a way to bolster people’s immunity? With Vitamins D, C, and Zinc?

The lack of curiosity and problem solving by our medical bureaucrats is amazing.

  6. Pacific Islanders, Hispanics, Native Americans, and African Americans are statistically more likely to have diabetes and to be obese as well.

  7. If you’re unvaccinated, you’re at a high risk of getting severely ill from COVID-19, being hospitalized, and, in rare cases, even dying.

Biden there is just parroting the Progressive Party Line. Try debating against it on NPR – every voice in the room will instantly be raised in arrogant opposition.

“The lack of curiosity and problem solving by our medical bureaucrats is amazing.”

Even more terrifying is their rush to “wokeness”. Cheshire Medical Center/Dartmouth Hitchcock in Keene has “diversity, equity, and inclusion” carefully noted on their website.

As scientists, you know, those “curious” folks, I would think that they would understand that D, E, I leads to mediocrity. This is not what I would like in my healthcare provider.

  9. Sounds to me like the Democratic Party has settled on their preferred re-election strategy: Put a little distance on the “We’ll fix what Trump couldn’t” declarations, ease away from those embarrassing pandemic deliverables, abandon the mandates to the courts, and start shoving the day-to-day COVID information sessions down the food chain to the bureaucrats. Watch for more press conferences being given by people you never heard of before, but have impressive Public Health titles. And watch Jen start to refer reporters to those experts to move the dialog out of the White House. I guess they’re hoping this will bring unbearable pressure onto Republican Governors.

  10. “. . . there’s just too much we don’t know about how to stop its spread. ”

My money’s on we will never stop the spread. Shoveling seaweed against the tide.

As I recall, although I don’t know if I ever put it writing anywhere, I never thought we would ever be able to stop the spread, either in April 2020 or January 2021.

  11. J.J. —

In my county ethnicity has had a major role.

Bret Weinstein’s latest interview regards Vitamin D and the mystery of why all of public health is overlooking it.

One of the interviewees points out that in the first wave of the pandemic, 50% of Sweden’s deaths came from the 1% of the population made up of Somali refugees.

  12. Bryan Lovely:

Minneapollis and Illan Omar must have been especially worried about those Swedish stats.

  13. A friend just posted that she has Covid…Omicron variant…and that she is sicker than she’s ever been before. She’s about 50, in good health, definitely not overweight, and is vaccinated.

Not sure if the virus was definitively identified as Omicron or if they’re just assuming that since it’s now the most prevalent.

re the general effect of the vaccines, they have a *very* strong impact on preventing hospitalizations and deaths; *some* impact on preventing cases and transmission, but not as much as their serious-symptoms impact. This stuff isn’t binary. When Trump said recently that is you are vaccinated, you won’t go to the hospital and die, he was directionally connect but exaggerating; when Biden said that healthcare workers who are vaxxed can’t spread the disease, he exaggerated much worse.

  14. ‘A friend just posted that she has Covid…sicker than she’s ever been before’

I hope your friend feels better soon but I find it amusing that she is sicker than she has ever been but not too sick to stop her from posting on social media.

About 15-20 years back I got some bug (flu or something this was when no one cared what exact virus you had) and was truly down and out for about five days and it took everything I had to get out of bed the first couple of days and I was in my thirties at the time.

Just find it funny how now getting a virus that is not much worse than a mild to moderate cold for most is now something that people feel the need to report to the world.

    Strange days, indeed.

  15. The OK Health Department posted interesting news yesterday:

    https://oklahoma.gov/covid19/newsroom/2021/december/osdh-addresses-misinformation-and-uninformed-opinions.html

“The claim that CDC is reporting 92% of cases in our region are omicron is inaccurate and missing a key piece of information. That claim is a projection only. It is based on CDC modeling (NOWCAST) of variant testing around the country and the anticipated rate of spread. It is in fact, attempting to compensate for the fact that variant testing is always a reflection of what has occurred in the past. It does not mean that 92% of all sequencing completed currently are omicron. Further, to be accurate, the current projection for our region which includes all of Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and New Mexico is 86.7%. This number may or may not accurately reflect Oklahoma cases. ?”

Another interesting point is that the rapid tests don’t provide a large enough sample to do the sequencing test and many of the PCR tests also don’t have a sufficient sample of the virus.

  16. “Within the past 48 hours, Biden has admitted that the virus can’t be stopped, CNN has admitted that masks are useless, and now the CDC has admitted that PCR tests are a fraud. The wheels are finally starting to come off.”
    https://twitter.com/HansMahncke/status/1476203636241879045

Problem is, though, that the corrupt media keeps givin’ ’em fresh wheels…installs, ’em, inflates ’em, balances ’em, aligns ’em, etc….

The real mystery is why the Ministry of Truth (or is that the Ministry of Information?) let him post for so long….

  17. I wonder if this statement can be used in the Supreme Court case regarding federal vaccine requirements? If this is global pandemic is a state issue, as declared by the head of the Executive Branch, then doesn’t nullify Executive Orders in regards to the pandemic?

I get that’s probably not going to happen, but I’m just asking for a sane and consistent part of our society.
