So I underestimated how long it would take to write Part II of the Sullivan post
So sue me.
I said yesterday I thought that Part II would be posted today. But I overestimated my capacity to churn that thing out. It’s such a big topic with so much information to digest. I’ve written a portion of Part II but I realize that I’ll have to try to finish it tonight, and hopefully I’ll post it tomorrow.
Sorry! But to compensate for that, there may even be a Part III.
And I’d better grind the entire thing out before June 1, which is when Judge Sullivan is supposed to respond to the Court of Appeals for the DC Circuit’s order.
“So sue me”
You’ll be hearing from my law firm Obama, Holder and Comey as soon as I can forge the evidence and leak it to the press.
I thought for sure it would appear today. You employed one of my tricks to force myself to meet a deadline. Tell as many people as possible so you have to produce or look foolish.
Works every time for me but for each their own…
Does that mean I don’t have to keep checking back for updates every hour until tomorrow?
Griffin:
Tried that tactic. Didn’t work.
I’m retired. I’m patient. It’s like waiting for a great movie to be released. : >)
Meanwhile, a bit of light reading to pass the time.
No wine before its time. It’ll get here when it gets here…….
Ahh … Guys and Dolls … a sublime musical.
Even when it’s a movie with non-singing Marlon Brando as Sky Masterson.
OTOH … Frank Sinatra …
I stayed up until 2:30 am for a nothing burger??
At least I could support the Clash of Krakens, or Titans, or Smash, or something before bedtime.

Tuvea:
My post on Sinatra in the movie of “Guys and Dolls” vs. Levene in the play.
I never got into musicals much until I had a daughter who grew up to be absolutely smitten. And infected me to some extent.
Then, my local community college put on Guys and Dolls (about 10 years ago now). I had never heard of it. I was entranced and went to see it many, many times. Loved the story. Loved the plot. Loved the zeitgeist moment in time. Loved the music. Loved the lyric. Loved the characters.
What joy. I wish I had seen a “professional” Broadway cast but even my frog-pond community college was magic.
I’ve always loved Guys and Dolls. My mother took me a local theater group’s production of Guys and Dolls when I was in middle school. It was the first non-children’s live production I had seen, and I loved it! I have been a fan of live theater ever since.
Fast forward 30 years and when my 2 kids at around the same age resisted going to the theater, we took them to see a professional production of Jesus Christ Super Star, with seats near the front row. They were enthralled during the show with tears running down their cheeks at times. When it was over I asked my son what he thought, and all he could say was, “Dad! I could see spit coming out of their mouths when they sang!” As adults they’ve been live theater fans ever since.
Saw the 1992 Broadway revival with Peter Gallagher, Nathan Lane and Faith Prince. Turns out JK Simmons can sing a little bit, showing well on “Fugue for Tinhorns”.
What a wonderful show.

Neo,
Well … I gotta agree. As much as I think that Frank Sinatra is arguably the greatest male vocalist of the 20th Century, Sam Levene IS better in that role.
As JimNorCal and Chris B suggest, Guys and Dolls is a great musical to start your kids on. I’ve seen five or six versions, including a high school production, and they were all wonderful.
Neo, another great post and link.
I give you props for trying to wrap your head around the issue. In my opinion, most Americans don’t have a clue. Any succinct analysis is always appreciated.
“Adelaide’s Lament” was one of my favorites — I wonder if someone has parodied it for Covid? Couldn’t find anything but the original version.

COVID Beach Read: The Third Man Takes 39 Steps Out the Rear Window.
We seem to have wandered into the Twilight Zone and are living in a suspense movie which has as many offshoots as a Marvel Universe story-line.
While we’re waiting for Neo’s post, here are McCarthy’s observations.

“It would be nice if participants in this drama could get beyond Trump derangement and remember what criminal cases are about. This matter is not about Judge Sullivan or the Justice Department. It is not even about Michael Flynn as the former Trump administration official caught up in the Trump–Russia contretemps. It is about Michael Flynn, the accused, who is presumed innocent and entitled to the full array of rights assured by the Constitution, federal procedural rules, and due-process jurisprudence.
The criminal-justice system’s principal task is to provide due process to the accused. It is human nature that judges and prosecutors often come to believe that the accused is guilty, is a rogue, is gaming the system, and so on. Yet this does not change the judge’s or the prosecutor’s duty to ensure that a defendant is afforded every protection to which the system entitles him.
Regardless of how you feel about Flynn, think about what happened here — and what you’d say about it if politics were not inflaming the public debate. “
Used to live where the nearest high school did the old standards; Camelot, West Side Story, Showboat, Bye-Bye-Birdie, Sound of Music. Others. They were always first-rate productions with fabulously talented young folks.
Went to a touring company of Les Miz with a professional cast. The urchin looked like Little Annie, bright, chubby and, for heaven’s sake, cheerful. Broke the willing suspension of disbelief.
Our local choral organization convinced a twelve-year old girl to take a week off soccer. She had a different bone structure from the professional. With a bit of makeup, she did look like a kid on the edge in the midst of chaos. Knocked it out of the park. Half a dozen years later, she did the same as Guinevere.
The guy wondering if he’d be a good father (in Showboar?) got me to tears…
Point is, I had no idea who he was. Not one of our kids’ friends, so I didn’t know anything about him. He wasn’t FRANK SINATRA singing a song some guy you never heard of would be singing, or at least thinking, while it’s being sung by FRANK SINATRA. He was a young guy, of an age when–in the Showboat world and time–might have been pretty close to the actuality. He wasn’t old enough to be confident. He would wonder, and worry. And it wasn’t FRANK SINATRA we’re sitting there watching sing it.
Loved the whole experience, year after year. It was multiplied by the fact that we had no known stars.
The crowd turns ugly: “There won’t be any Part II. We’ve been scammed! Neo gets her money for nothin’ and her clicks for free!” (Cue Mark Knopfler and Dire Straits)
Listen here, now that ain’t workin’ that’s the way to do it
You play behind the apple. Will Flynn walk free?
That ain’t workin’ that’s the way you do it
Money for nothin’ and your clicks for free
Money for nothin’ and the clicks for free
Get your money for nothin’ and clicks for free
One of my dad’s wise maxims was “never give a writer a real deadline.”
(One gives a deadline that’s a few weeks earlier than the real one.)
Here’s a question: is Flynn a loose cannon? I know he was portrayed that way by the MSM back in the day, when he was tossed from DIA. But there seems to be a whiff of gunpowder around his opening days in the Trump Admin, FBI dirty work aside.
OTOH, you don’t get to 3-stars by being a loose cannon!
One of my favorite quotes (roughly): “People often confuse having a bad attitude with the ability to think clearly.” – Joseph Heller
Sullivan has no choice but to recuse himself. In addition to the obvious evidence that he’s not impartial, there is the fact that the appellate court — by ordering him to respond — has made him a combatant in the legal arena. He can’t possibly remain as the judge in this case. He’ll be removed, the new judge will dismiss, and it will be over. And he can’t possibly be stupid enough to try to issue a contempt order or some other nasty hail mary before the removal hits his clerk’s office.
I think stan at 1:42 is right. Let’s see what happens.
There is much going on, and much of that is complex.
One thing I have seen that has gotten only moderate notice in the press is the apparent weakening of the earth’s magnetic field (at least in some areas) and the seeming hastening of the field toward a reversal.
If I were a blogger in these deranged times, I’d keep an eye out for the first public commentator to try and polemically link these phenomena to something to do with Trump. LOL
If this were April 1st you could do it yourself.
Best musical ever! Followed by Music Man. I have no idea why people think Oklahoma is better. Of course, when I was a kid, my dad knew a lot of guys like those gamblers, so maybe I’m prejudiced.

Nicely done.
I’m a big Knopfler fan.

I’d put them in the other order, but otherwise in agreement.
