Democrats fiddle while economy burns — 29 Comments

  1. It is hardly surprising that the Democrats are following the egregious Rahm E’s rule of never letting a crisis go to waste, nor are they likely ever to allow through any bill that is not nicely stuffed with progressive pork.

  2. I think it is foolish to believe that the only thing wrong with America is that the Democrats suck. No matter how much blame or criticism you direct at the Republicans, however, this makes it pretty clear it is the Democrats who need to be destroyed as a clear and present danger to the American people and their republic.

    Mike

  3. I don’t think the followers of the Dems notice anything. Not in the way you mean.

  4. Post Office bailout.
    Alt Energy subsidies.
I didn’t see cushy office chairs but maybe that’s in there too.

Maybe next year these guys could pass a, you know, actual budget.

I do hope our Repub reps will say to them “NO, you’re not getting it, that’s what elections are for” and “fine, whatev, let us know when you’ve come back to reality”.

  5. This pleases the Deep State, or what is left of them that is’nt in DUMBs.

As I mentioned before, the Deep State has a lot more power than people realize, in their strategic reserves. This whole world shutdown due to a pandemic virus, fear mongering, is part of that power they are now using.

What they are actually surprised and disappointed in is that the plan was to begin reducing human population to 500 million, as quoted on the Georgia Guidestones. The virus isn’t even killing 1 billion people. It is mostly a failure, because somehow it mutated.

Google or Search for “2009 Billionaire cabal meeting population reduction”. The Guardian and Washpost hasn’t scrubbed them yet.

  6. Just sent a couple scathing emails to my senators, but given they are Blumenthal and Murphy, I’m sure they don’t give a spit.

  7. Neo, I’ve been reading about this and what I found was the sticking point is a proposed $500 billion fund overseen by the Treasury Department to provide emergency federal funding for industries battered by the virus. Democrats are calling it a “slush fund,” arguing that it gives Mnuchin excessive leeway to determining who receives the money. They also said it didn’t impose enough restrictions on how it could be used and doesn’t do enough for the workers who are hardest hit.
    Patty Murray WA senator said:
“Republicans can’t seriously expect us to tell people in our communities who are suffering that we shortchanged hospitals, students, workers and small businesses, but gave big corporations hundreds of billions of dollars in a secretive slush fund,”

Anyway, a lot of us will be economically hurting very soon. My entire company was furloughed. I think the bill includes better unemployment benefits, which is good. Mortgages, rent, food, car payments, all need to be paid for somehow.

  8. I contacted my senators Grassley and Ernst and told them it’s time to resume dueling on Capitol Hill.

  9. I saw a little bit of Chuck Schumer speaking on the floor of the Senate. He said it’s not enough to merely postpone or cancel student debt interest payments, we need to cancel the debt.

I don’t know if he meant all student debt or some student debt, but oh my. What’s the logic here? Now is the perfect time to smash the storefront window and engage in some serious looting?

  10. Odious.
Taking the country hostage and clearly expecting the blame to fall on Trump.

Worse than odious. A public and present danger.

But then, as always, it’s Palestinian rules. Actually, make that Chinese rules. No, Iranian rules.
    All of the above….

  11. I saw a little bit of Chuck Schumer this summer… wandering my neighborhood.. Have a photo of him and myself with my wife… the disdain he had for the people who wanted to share the minute was easily apparent…

  12. Apparently the reasoning is very simple according to Clyburn’s take on Rahm Emanuel’s (?) Crisis philosophy as reported in The Hill:

“House Majority Whip Rep. James Clyburn (D-SC) reportedly told Democrats on a conference call last week that the party should exploit the coronavirus stimulus: “This is a tremendous opportunity to restructure things to fit our vision.”

You see there are more important things than life and death. There’s also power and politics

The arrogance of these bastards is breathtaking

  13. At a time when everyday life and commerce has been almost completely disrupted, when everyone—in one way or the other—is in some form of lock down or “social distancing, is suffering from the effects of the Corona virus Pandemic, with more and more people becoming infected and more and more dying, when many tens of millions of individuals who have no real savings to fall back on—who have mortgages or rent to pay, food to buy, car loans, tuition payments, and utility bills to pay—have, in effect, been laid off, and the economy is heading toward recession, what his country, what we all urgently need from the Federal government is a very clean, focused, straightforward stimulus package—and a package available in the next couple of days.

The President and Republicans have been trying to craft and pass such a bill, yet efforts to get such a bill through Congress have been deliberately blocked by Democrats, with House Speaker Pilosi diabolically championing her own pork stuffed 1,400 page bill, * and House Majority Whip Rep. James Clyburn (D-SC) reportedly telling Democrats on a conference call last week that the party should exploit the coronavirus stimulus: “This is a tremendous opportunity to restructure things to fit our vision.” **

Voting to delay immediate passage of a clean bill, voting for a bloated pork stuffed bill is criminal—is a betrayal of each and every citizen, and of our country—a major betrayal that I hope and pray will not be forgotten at election time.

This is the time to shout the news of the Democrat’s betrayal of each and every American and of our country, of their actions to the sky, to make sure that it is widely known, recognized, and never forgotten!

  14. An old Simpsons episode had a comet about to destroy the town of Springfield. Just as congress was about to pass an aid bill unanimously, someone attached a rider to fund the “perverted arts” and the bill failed.

The news anchor, Kent Brockman stated, “I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Democracy simply doesn’t work.”

That’s definitely true when items are attached to bills that have nothing at all to do with what the original bill is intending to accomplish. But this crap happens all of the time in our federal and state houses which is one of the reasons our national and state debt is so high.

  15. Sen. Tom Cotton, Twitter thread (condensed ): *** Families and businesses need help now to survive the China virus pandemic. But @SpeakerPelosi
walked away from negotiations to write her own bill, full of absurd provisions completely unrelated to the crisis at hand. Here’s what Speaker Pelosi is demanding while Americans suffer:

    1. Corporate pay statistics by race and race statistics for all corporate boards at companies receiving assistance

    2. Bailing out all current debt of postal service

    3. Required early voting

    4. Required same day voter registration

    5. 10k bailout for student loans

    6. For companies accepting assistance, 1/3 of board members must be chosen by workers

    7. Provisions on official time for union collective bargaining

    8. Full offset of airline emissions by 2025

    9. Greenhouse gas statistics for individual flights

    10. Retirement plans for community newspaper employees

    11. $15 minimum wage at companies receiving assistance

    12. Permanent paid leave at companies receiving assistance

The Democrats see an opportunity in this crisis.

Not to help the American people, but to hold an emergency relief bill hostage until they get their radical wish list.

How long will Arkansans and Americans across the country have to wait? ***

  16. These Democrats are nauseating people. Some of those provisions are straight out of Sen. Warren’s plans. Socialism, and not very “light” socialism, at that.

  17. A general questions regarding behavior of the Democrats.

Our (WA) governor caved to the pressure and instituted a two week lockdown of non-essential industries as well as enhanced social distancing measures via Executive Order, which are legally enforceable. J.J., Griffin, and Bryan Lovely can add details if interested. The criteria for lifting these restrictions is not defined of course.

Assuming that President Trump announces a recommendation in 15 days to lift such lockdowns if recommended conditions (health or safety based, or based on the data) are in place. What is the probability that the various Democrat Governors and Senators will fight such recommendations and policies, as unsafe etc. while blaming President Trump for the economic consequences?

  18. Cornhead writes “Dems need to get smashed in November.”

That would be a good start. A better way to go would be to hang about a dozen of them on lamp posts. Nancy Pelosi should be first to dangle, with Clyburn on either the second or third lamp post. It’s a tossup between Clyburn and Schumer. That leaves nine lamp posts. It will be hard deciding who doesn’t get their own, but we can triage the issue.

  19. Oh, I’d guess about 1 will fightstinky in every 3 instances om, with the caveat that Wa, NY, and Ca won’t be included in the return to quasi normalcy. I don’t think there all nutters, but they can prove me wrong.

  20. Far as I can tell, there are two separate groups. independents and stay-at-homes.
I’m neither.. But in Michigan, one of the lock-down exceptions is volunteers from, among other things, religious groups involved in food prep and delivery.
We are dealing with and preparing to deal with even more people put into difficulty by mitigation policies. That’s a lot of people. A lot, in terms of a close election. To the extent the dems are seen as prolonging the difficulties to get…pick one or another issue…piggybacked through is going to be more than theoretically manifest to a good many people.

  21. The democrats are liable to face a citizens’ firing squad if this nonsense continues.

  22. Tim Pool is roasting the Democrats exploitation of the Wuhan virus relief bill, it’s for the good of the people after all:

“Democrats Just STABBED America In The Back Blocking Relief Bill TWICE With INSANE 1400 Page Counter”

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M7O0RPvq-Rk

Green New Deal, Diversity Dogma, Voter Fraud, Student Loan forgiveness he goes over all of it.

  23. I’ve been trying to fact-check the reported Clyburn crack about using this crisis to “restructure things to fit our vision.” Snopes, etc., claim never to have heard of it, ditto CNN. So far the report is from an unidentified participant in the conference call. It’s widely reported, but mostly on right-of-center sites, unless you count The Hill. I haven’t heard any furious denials, which is interesting, especially since normally I’d expect Snopes to be all over it, with a weak complaint about needing context, if nothing else.
