We have crossed the border into a place where the words “man” and “woman” have no biological meaning — 51 Comments

  1. “One of the many goals of the left is for the words “man” and “woman” to have no biological meaning or reality whatsoever, but to be entirely socially constructed.”

You want crazy, try reading this.

    https://www.comicsbeat.com/fx-y-the-last-man-series-transgender-character/

For the link averse, there’s a TV show in development about a world where something kills every man on earth except one. They just announced there’s going to be a transgender male supporting character on the show and the writer is whining about “chromosomal falsehoods” and how the transgender male shouldn’t be portrayed as having survived because he was born a woman.

  2. I just re-read 1984 about a week ago.
The left wants to be there.
I don’t think they’re going to enjoy the fight some of us are going to put up to keep that from happening.

And let’s welcome back the “edit” function with a rousing round of applause!

  3. You have to look up SRY gene and its protein TDF and a particular transcription factor SOX 9. This will be confusing unless you have taken a few courses in molecular biology, but it gives a flavor as to what is known. There are still difficulties in predicting phenotypes from genotypes, i.e. what sex someone appears to be compared to their genetics. There are people who make both sperm and ova and these are true hermaphrodites. Some of these folks are mosaics where one part of their body is male XY and another is female XX, but a mutation in SRY gene can cause this too, as well as other mechanisms.

  4. First, they came for the babies.. Fetal-Americans.

Sex: male, female. Gender: masculine, feminine. And the exceptional, divergent minority: transgender spectrum, including: trans/homo, trans/bi, trans/neo, etc.

  5. Dnaxy: There is almost no crossover between biologically real ambiguities and the fad of transgenderism among teens and 20-somethings (and foisted on children by absurd “woke” parents) … and “almost” might be overstating the chance of an exception.

  6. “Male” and “female” will continue to mean something within the ranching and pet worlds. This will eventually face pressure. But mechanical couplings will still be able to use the terms.

  7. I’m waiting for this fad to move beyond mere humans and affect the house pet population, such that the usual virtue-signaling suspects will claim that their dog is a trans-cat, i.e. identifies as a cat, while their cat is a cis-cat and doesn’t identify as a dog. The possibilities are endless if you add birds, hamsters, gerbils, etc. to the mix.

  8. For those who haven’t seen the Sprite commercial that pushes transgenderism by showing parents (and a grandparent) lovingly applying makeup and wigs to boys and supplying a breast binder to a girl, here it is:

    https://pjmedia.com/lifestyle/creepy-new-sprite-commercial-sells-transgenderism-and-breast-binding-not-soda/

The music makes the commercial even weirder (if that were possible), and what anything in the video (including the obligatory rainbow flags toward the end) has to do with a soft drink is anyone’s guess.

  9. Retail Lawyer: You are an optimist. I’ve already seen people objecting to calling plugs “male” and sockets “female”.

  10. “In my study of communist societies, I came to the conclusion that the purpose of communist propaganda was not to persuade or convince, not to inform, but to humiliate; and therefore, the less it corresponded to reality the better. When people are forced to remain silent when they are being told the most obvious lies, or even worse when they are forced to repeat the lies themselves, they lose once and for all their sense of probity. To assent to obvious lies is…in some small way to become evil oneself. One’s standing to resist anything is thus eroded, and even destroyed. A society of emasculated liars is easy to control. I think if you examine political correctness, it has the same effect and is intended to.”
    Theodore Dalrymple

  11. Dnaxy:

True hermaphrodites are an exceedingly rare phenomenon. Phenotypic male hermaphrodites can have “periods” that present as urine with blood in it. True hermaphrodites will ordinarily be assigned to either male or female sex depending on how much tissue they have of the male variety and how much of the female variety. Once the assignment is made, usually quite early in life, then the tissue of the opposite sex is removed. So someone assigned male would not be having periods or getting pregnant. Someone assigned female, could.

So even in this very rare condition, those assigned male don’t have periods and don’t get pregnant.

  12. ‘Transgenderism’ is partly a fad and partly child abuse. Exceptions to XX and XY involve a very tiny percentage of the population and I would guess those individuals want their status kept to themselves and their families.

Drag queens reading to young children in your local library or school is sickening. Next there be a push to normalize pedophiles. The ‘progressives’ must be crushed under a push back that involves ridicule and parody. I would include shame, but they have no sense of shame.

Oh well, let’s ignore millions of years of evolution that gave us males and females. Party of science? Laugh, laugh, hard enough to cry.

  13. Just this morning, Neo’s Amazon portal alerted me to Charles Murray’s upcoming book:
Human Diversity: The Biology of Gender, Race, and Class Hardcover – January 28, 2020
    by Charles Murray (Author)
All people are equal but, as Human Diversity explores, all groups of people are not the same — a fascinating investigation of the genetics and neuroscience of human differences.

The thesis of Human Diversity is that advances in genetics and neuroscience are overthrowing an intellectual orthodoxy that has ruled the social sciences for decades. The core of the orthodoxy consists of three dogmas:

    – Gender is a social construct.

    – Race is a social construct.

    – Class is a function of privilege.

The problem is that all three dogmas are half-truths. They have stifled progress in understanding the rich texture that biology adds to our understanding of the social, political, and economic worlds we live in.

It is not a story to be feared. “There are no monsters in the closet,” Murray writes, “no dread doors we must fear opening.” But it is a story that needs telling. Human Diversity does so without sensationalism, drawing on the most authoritative scientific findings, celebrating both our many differences and our common humanity.

  14. I have spent much of the last year researching this phenomenon, initially in an effort to better understand the trans teen in my life.

There’s really two separate problems here. The obvious one is the “saying a dog’s tail is a leg doesn’t make it one” punchline inherent to the whole thing. If you’re a 4’10” adult, you can “identify” as tall, but that doesn’t change the physical reality that you’re 4’10” and therefore, not tall. Physical gender is exactly the same thing. Gender is a collection of physical traits. The presence of a handful of chimeras and other genetic freak accidents notwithstanding, every cell of your body contains the genetic code that “assigned” your gender, and there are thousands of physical differences relevant to male vs female humans. Blithely saying “I identify as …” changes your physical gender exactly as much as “identifying” as being tall when you’re short changes your height.

This being the 21st century in a Western nation, you have every right to pretend to be something you’re not, and if you’re good at it, strangers, at a glance, might refer a well-disguised male as a “her” and vice versa. If that moves your world, yay for you. The question is: why? Why is it that important to you to be perceived as something you are not?

Even more importantly, why is it that important to you for others to pretend to perceive that you are something you are not? Because really, in context of teens and 20-somethings, that’s what this is really all about.

When I suddenly had to deal with what I will refer to as a transfad individual, vs a legitimate transgender, I found that this was a person who had no real interest in living as a person of the desired gender. Not to be judgmental, that used to be a critical point for transgenders I had known previously. Instead, I found that many transfadders are angry about society expecting them to “pass as” their declared gender. This is the underlying thing behind the weird “I’m Chris and my preferred pronouns are …” because merely looking like a male or female is supposed to be irrelevant.

Along the line this morphed into the even more bizarre idea that physical reality doesn’t matter anyway. TERFism is a thing: old-school lesbians, like GenX L friends of mine, are called homophobic bigots if they won’t consider a relationship with a transwoman, including the many with their full original male equipment. If there’s any more degrading way of forcing people to pretend something that isn’t true, for the gratification of one partner only, I don’t want to know what it is.

So that, really, is the second, and more fundamental problem: the idea that gender is an identity and not a physical reality. I have researched that, and continue to fail to understand. There are 3-4 billion people of each gender on this planet – why would you be driven – life-and-death, because “I’m going to commit suicide if I’m misgendered” – to hang your identity on gender? It escapes me. I personally feel no need to “identify” as anything, other than myself. I was a kid of the 1970s – perfectly happy to believe that I was not special, but that I was unique. That, I have come to suspect, is one of the underlying forces that drives this fad on the part of kids of this era. Why is “identifying” as something so important? I have read that identity issues are a common feature of autism spectrum disorders – can anyone comment?

  15. Neo: “Orwell knew, tearing down the traditional use of words is a powerful tool, as the left is acutely aware.”

    I see you’ve already made my point… 🙁

  16. KyndyllG, you are dealing with a very difficult situation and I wish you and the confused person in your life well. I encourage you to use “sex” when talking about what you call “physical gender.” Other than the very few true “intersex” people, having confused physical identity from birth, all the rest of us have either XX or XY genes, and these genetic differences drive how we develop physically, from the womb on forward.

  17. “One of the many goals of the left is for the words “man” and “woman” to have no biological meaning or reality whatsoever”
No, one of the many goals of the left is for all words to have no meaning whatsoever.

  18. To admit someone can be transgendered is to admit logic is dead. With rare exceptions to the binary truth that one is either XX or XY, one is either XX or XY. This is true in very cell of your body, including your brain. Transgendered is another term for confused. People lost in this confused state need therapy, not hormones or surgery.

  19. Females inactivate randomly one of the X chromosomes in each cell. These are clumped on the inner side of the plasma membrane. They are called Barr bodies. So that functionally each woman is really a diffuse mosaic. You can see these Barr bodies quite easily with ordinary H&E stains or Giemsa staining at 440x.
It is thought that this inactivated DNA is not transcribed…so that functionally each female cell has only 45 functional chromosomes. This has little to to with our topic, but is interesting.

  20. I find it interesting that gays fought for recognition that homosexuality is not a choice (something that I believe and accept). But now we are being told that people should be allowed to choose their gender.

    I sense a conflict…

  21. As the Duke of Wellington said, just because you are born in a barn doesn’t make you a horse.

  22. The slippery slope of deviant behavior is not far removed from the machinations of totalitarian wordsmiths.

  24. He she wanna be
Body and soul just don’t agree
    There’s an answer
Got to go for a Tijuana tunk n’ roll

    He-she just got….a zipper job.

  25. To admit someone can be transgendered is to admit logic is dead.

It depends on how gender is defined. The contemporary use conflates two concepts: cause (i.e. genetics) and effect (e.g. genotype). Sex referred to male and female. Gender referred to masculine and feminine physical and mental (e.g. sexual orientation) attributes. The word gay was appropriated as an empathetic appeal for purposes of normalization and political congruence (“=”) over the complete descriptive term: transgender/homosexual. That said, there are naturally (e.g. genetic, hormonal) occurring divergent attributes. There is also transgender conversion therapy, including indoctrination and/or medical corruption (e.g. simulated or forced attributes).

  26. Diversity is a sociopolitical construct that indulges color judgments, including but not limited to racism, sexism. It justifies, among other policies, affirmative discrimination, selective exclusion (e.g. political congruence).

Progress is monotonic change, that has been infused with a positive denotation and connotation. Liberalism is divergent (e.g. generational). Conservatism is moderating. Principles matter.

  27. Transvestites are trans-social. There are gender-biased clothing styles and standards in order to normalize a favorable juxtaposition of the sexes.

  28. Maliciously promoting madness and lies, should meet the reply of a bullet or axe to the brain, not words in endless argumentation.

  29. Maliciously promoting madness and lies, should meet the reply of a bullet or axe to the brain

A scalpel, perhaps. We are not abortionists. We do not subscribe to the Pro-Choice quasi-religion (“ethics”), its underlying twilight faith, nor defer judgment to its mortal gods.

  30. A normal masculine distribution.

Men who get their periods are trans/neo-masculine (i.e. female).

Men who get pregnant and give birth are trans/neo-masculine (i.e. female).

The transgender spectrum is inclusive, but the sociopolitical constructs of political congruence (“=”) are exclusive.

  31. In my Computer Logic & Design class I discovered my textbook has renamed Master-Slave circuits as Master-Servant circuits “for obvious reasons,” the writers say.

For grid’s sake. “Slave” is by far the better word for an arrangement of tiny doped silicon bits that are deterministically synchronized by a previous arrangement of silicon bits.

You may say that I’m a dreamer, but I didn’t think the 21st century would be this stupid.

  32. “I find it interesting that gays fought for recognition that homosexuality is not a choice (something that I believe and accept). But now we are being told that people should be allowed [and implicitly capable of ] to choose[ing] their gender. [and hence sexual orientation]

    I sense a conflict…”

That is because you are guilty of the social crime of attempting to commit logic.

  33. DNW; Roy Nathanson:

My impression is that the idea is not that transgendered people choose their gender. The idea (at least, as I understand it) is that gender is somehow innate and immutable but not primarily biological in terms of DNA or phenotype. That someone can be genetically male, for example, in the DNA sense, and also in the sense of looking male and having male genitalia, but still be a woman in some essential, hidden, yet overridingly true way.

So there is no contradiction or conflict between that theory and the idea that gay people do not choose, either.

  34. balal…

Look how far feminism has gone
imagine what it will be like in some more time
its so un-opposed in any realistic way, any inanity is real and accepted, out of fear, which tells the leaders, go ahead, pull the next inanity..

given that there is no way to oppose any of this unless you oppose feminism, and no one will oppose that in any meaningful way, especially women… i guess women with pudendas are stuck showing with men and will have to suck up their miserable tears as this is all for them!

with that, is it any wonder why i said i have no dog in this fight any more… i am too old to bother and its way too late to do a thing..

besides what would you expect a dragon like me to do? i am what i am, and dragons are not part of even reality, so what can this dragon do? dont argue… i can be what i want, and i was born a dragon… so there

its actually a lovely deer that was a horse… and those that side with this, are identified from the crowd as fully part of the movement, and those that dont, are targets… maybe camps.. maybe ovens later..

  35. DNW; Roy Nathanson:

Gender is what, exactly, if not a manifestation in some sense of biological preconditions? And if they are biological precursors, where’s the mystery?

And, if they are not biologically rooted and irresistible in any normal sense, then what are they but choices?

Women are not men because they have differently sexed bodies. They are further distinct from men because they often enough to be relatively predictable, behave differently given the same stimulus.

And then, they tend to wear different clothing in developed societies. It’s comical to think what a “transgendered” person would do in a society where clothing was more or less drably, shapelessly, unisex, and no one would consent to pay any attention to its posturing, and aping of the opposite sex.

If there is more to this than some person seeking to have others affirm that it is what it is biologically not, then I’d be interested in hearing about it.

I suppose all those “transgendered” who dress up in the opposite sex’s clothing and then prance around in the woods by themselves in order to express their gender identity, are evidence that it’s not all some kind of twisted social performance.

  36. The question seems to be are we dragged by genetics into some gender? ….or are we dragged by some fad or inculturation into one gender?

The problem is that we can’t really find the answer. It could well be that a mosaic could have some cells with XX or XY in a certain part of the brain that is the locus of the urge for that gender… and all of the other cells in that body are of the opposite gender including opposing genitalia and secondary sex characteristics.

This seems an impossible technical task.

So maybe the best thing to do is to sway people into believing that gender is like height. It’s not important. No special favors. All bathrooms unisex. No special facilities or affirmative action. But no oppression either.

    But still…..?

  37. “So maybe the best thing to do is to sway people into believing that gender is like height. It’s not important. No special favors. All bathrooms unisex. No special facilities or affirmative action. But no oppression either. “

Why should bathrooms be unisex? Whose interest does that serve? Maybe we should make all urinals trough-like so gay nuinsnces prowling the public restrooms won’t have to crane their damned necks to get a peek.

Are we going to solve the aping/mimicry problem by requiring everyone to dress alike too? Try pouring – as per the old movie Cop Land – Janeane Garfalo’s comically squat steatopygous figure into a deputy’s uniform and see how well that tactic works.

If “gender” doesn’t reflect an objective, indubitable, necessary teleological, physical reality, it isn’t worthy of legal respect or my trouble and accommodation.

Expecting others, to validate, that is to socially affirm, some disordered personal fantasy, or physical dysfunction as non-dysfunctional, is to expect others to participate in nonsense and absurdity … ’cause …. feelinz.

It is a social demand that others participate in a lie, or absurdity, or program of dysfunctionality. No such form of degraded human association is worth it.

  38. Dnaxy:

It could well be that unicorns farts smell and sound like Eric Swalwell, and unicorn turds are pure gold. How can you know otherwise? Imaginary beasts and beings are tricky that way. Do unicorns self identify as a gender or have many?

  39. Wish we could all agree on definitions. SEX is the biological term that refers to being male or female. Has always been that way. When your cat has kittens, you “sex” them to determine male/female; you don’t “gender” them. GENDER was never ever used to denote male/female biology. Then feminists deliberately began using the term gender, as applied to human beings, as the social performance of a male or female role. Those feminists never meant that the social construct of gender supplanted the idea that sex means biological male/female. This distinction between sex and gender is so crucial, because when we lose the simple designation of sex as meaning male/female, it leads to people being forced to affirm that Caitlyn Jenner IS a woman, 100%; that female is her sex. No, Jenner is a trans woman; a biological male who finds her true self must be expressed outwardly as being a woman. Jenner has taken on the social gender role of “woman.” I have no big issue with recognizing Jenner as woman in the sense of interacting with her as a “her.” I find it terrifying though that in many situations today, I would be forced to actively affirm that Jenner’s SEX is female in order to maintain employment, get an education, or be accepted in any number of social groups.

  40. And what the hell is up with the ACLU tweet asserting that “non-binary” men are men? The whole point of non-binary is to refuse to identify as male OR female. It’s a whole new category of its own!

  41. I wish to acknowledge here that I should have read KyndyllG’s comment when it was written, rather than in only reviewing this thread this morning.

KyndyllG directly and cogently addressed the petty tyranny and social performance aspects of the teen transgender phenomenon through a thoughtful and well formulated review of points which deserved direct acknowledgement.

    Especially, this point:

“Even more importantly, why is it that important to you for others to pretend to perceive that you are something you are not? Because really, in context of teens and 20-somethings, that’s what this is really all about.”

Instead, I got out my scatter-gun and shot in the same direction without looking first at what others had said or done.

    Well stated, KyndyllG.
