Some statistics on how many illegal immigrants never show up for their hearings
This information was compiled by US immigration courts and recently given to Congress. The numbers apply to fiscal year 2017:
—43 percent of all aliens free pending trial failed to appear for court in 2017.
—Since 1996, 37 percent of all aliens free before trial disappeared from court.
—Aliens abscond from court more often today than they did before 9/11.
—Deportation orders for failing to appear in court exceed deportation orders from cases that were tried by 306 percent.
—46 percent of all unaccompanied children disappeared from U.S. immigration courts from 2013 through 2017.
—49 percent of unaccompanied children failed to appear in U.S. immigration courts in 2017.
It stands to reason that those who don’t appear are those with the most to hide—or, regarding the children, those who are being most exploited.

In any other court system, such dysfunction would cry for redress. Only in U.S. immigration courts can litigants literally abandon their cases without fear of incarceration or removal, while litigants in nearly any other state or federal court risk arrest, contempt, and new charges for the same conduct. Federal law — 18 U.S.C. § 3146 — imposes penalties from one year all the way to 15 years or more for absconding from a U.S. district court or circuit court of appeals. Not so in federal immigration courts. Rarely, if at all, are aliens held accountable for the same misconduct that in other court systems would land them —or citizens— in jail and in some instances brand them felons.
Even more rarely are those who abscond from court ever found much less removed…
Never in 22 years of reporting has EOIR (i.e., Executive Office for Immigration Review, the Justice Department agency that manages the courts) squared with Congress and given an accurate description of failures to appear. Since 1996, it has dramatically understated FTA rates in its annual reports. In 2017, EOIR stated the FTA rate for all cases was 28 percent, never mentioning this number includes aliens whose trials occurred in detention facilities. In other words, EOIR calculates the FTA rate — or what it now calls the for all cases rate — by including those who could not evade court…
When accurate accounting is used, failure to appear rates in some years doubled the rates EOIR declared to Congress.

A complete overhaul of immigration law is needed — not the kind the Democrats have in mind, though.
Those are all Democrat voters or voters to be. Some areas in California had 114% turnout in the November election. Why do you think voter ID laws are under attack ?
Why do you think the woman who started “True the Vote” in Texas was attacked by the IRS and other Obama administration in agencies ? She even had OSHA after her business.
It is usual in criminal proceedings in US courts for the defendant, once charged, to post an appearance bond, which is forfeited if he doesn’t show up for trial. Illegally entering the US is a crime, but the defendants in these cases don’t have any money, or address. They should be incarcerated until trial, but the Left won’t allow that.
I propose an alternative.
Bail bondsmen post cash bail for defendants, and they know the risks. They usually require some form of tangible security, which is forfeited if their client no-shows. Usually the security is provided by a relative. Bleeding hearts on the Left regale us with their moral superiority, saying it is cruel and inhumane to incarcerate the illegal aliens, Let’s call their bluff. It would be easy to establish a program (GoFundMe?) whereby people could offer some form of security for the bail bondsmen who post the bail. Or maybe, a lien on their house?

In fact, the current ease of funding social or personal pet projects ought to be used for a lot of things paid for by the government (that is, the tax dollars of people who don’t approve of those things), including but not limited to PBS, NPR, research grants on really stupid questions, fine arts and entertainment, memorial roads and bridges and buildings (I really miss the Golden Fleece Awards), and even some parts of the welfare system.
It used to be, say, as recently as prior to the Vietnam War, that most people implicitly trusted the statistics that the MSM–newspapers, the nightly news and their trusted talking heads–provided them with.
Now?
I assume not that the statistics are accurate, but that they have been, in some way, “cooked.”
Without checking them myself, I don’t take any of the statistics presented by the MSM as being true, accurate, or complete; I don’t believe a single one of them.
And the above is a good example.
Reporters–over-inflated these days as “Journalists”–are not reporting the news, they are making and manipulating it, in the service of Leftist ideology.
They have been told all through high school, College, and especially in Journalism school, that their mission is to “change the world,” a world and civilization that they have been told by their professors are evil and corrupt.
Surely, then, a lie or exaggeration here and there, some key information deliberately left out, a twist in the narrative to better fit the conclusions they want to evoke, is a small price to pay, if it will help to “fundamentally transform” and save the world—to set it back on the right path.
It’s not about the truth anymore, it’s about Leftist ideology winning.
Behind all the blarney about how much they “care,” at base, behind all the virtue signaling, it’s all really about the acquisition of wealth, influence, and power over others, and anything goes if it will advance the cause.
Manipulation not only of statistics, but, as we have repeatedly seen, manipulation of language, the creating of “narratives,” of false versions of reality that benefit and further their agenda.
Similarly, the global warming statistics thrown around a few years ago to prove that–we’re all gonna die–unless we drastically alter the way we live, and surrender the governance of every aspect of our lives and fortunes to a self-elected group of supposed “experts,” environmental activists, and bureaucrats, were also highly suspect.
Once I read that the calculations put forth by the most eminent environmental “scientists,” their most prominent models—supposedly testifying to raising temperatures—did not include the oceans as part of their calculations (too complicated to calculate, don’t ya know)–this world being 7/10ths water–I knew that the statistics they presented as evidence for global warming were phony ones.
And after more and more stories came out about how those statistics were gathered, interpreted, and presented–“global warming” got such a bad name that it’s advocates changed it, they “re-framed” it as “climate change.”
When I read, in addition, that–in many cases–government “scientists” had switched the locations of many temperature sensors to areas that were known to be hotter than the areas they were previously sited in, when I heard that whole swaths of territory–full of sensors–that used to be routinely included in their calculations were now eliminated from those calculations, I knew that the books were cooked.
Look at any story these days, and if statistics are used as the basis of the story/to confirm whatever the thrust of the article is–never take those statistics at face value and as un-manipulated, true, and complete
Be very wary indeed.
Moreover, examine very carefully the language used, the expressions and adjectives, the images and feelings created by these stories, the pictures and videos, to see if these “Journalists” are trying to play on your emotions–trying to manipulate, to inflame you–at the expense of your intellect.
P.S.–In addition to these Journalist’s lies of “commission,” there are also their lies of “omission,” as they make sure that stories that further their Leftist agenda are reported–played up and widely circulated, while stories that would not further their agenda–and particularly those stories that would call their agenda into question– are not reported, and never see the light of day.
If some of these stories that raise uncomfortable questions, that do create some cognitive dissonance, do somehow slip through the MSM’s filters, they are either just not referred to or discussed, or, they are immediately attacked as being false and inaccurate.
One handy way to do this is to have supposedly fair and objective Leftist “fact checkers” and their organizations “analyze” these stories, and pronounce them false.
My sister worked in immigration law for a few years. She explained how the immigrants side works (these are things I, an AZ resident, didn’t know about – my own fault): they come to the border and make a claim as a refugee, knowing they do not qualify for refugee status. The courts are so bogged down that the immigrant is given a hearing date a few years out. They then have a legal pass (I forget what kind of visa it is) to live within our borders until they appear for their hearing (where their request for refugee status would be denied and they be sent back). The immigrant then disappears into the states and is never heard from again. It is after they do not show up for their hearing that they become illegal.
Then in a couple decades when having so many illegal aliens becomes a problem again they’re either given blanket citizenship (hooray for accepting criminals and those with no connection to our culture and encouraging more of the same) or deported (hooray for sending back people with no connection to that culture or language who then cause problems in their home country or just come back). Neither of these are acceptable fixes. The fix needs to happen at the border – but so much more than a wall. The fix needs to happen in the courts.
The Democrat’s former working class constituency has been abandoned, has fallen away–and is now seen as the enemy.
Some number of middle class voters are also becoming disenchanted, and there are some indications that some Blacks are slowly starting to turn away as well–see the Walkaway Movement.
With these formerly reliable constituencies dwindling, the Democrats need a great many new, reliable voters if they are to be a viable, major party in the future.
The most convincing argument for why Democrats are fighting–tooth and nail–against the Wall and against any actual reform of our immigration laws is that Democrats see illegal aliens–most of whom come from countries whose governments are much more Socialist than ours–as a whole, huge new pool of voters very likely sympathetic to their Leftist agenda.
These are many millions of potential voters the Democrats would like to get feeling indebted to them, because Democrats managed to facilitate the immigration of these many millions of potential Democrat voters–most of them illegals–into our country, with all the benefits this would provide to them and their families.
If the Democrats can manage to arrange the immigration of millions of these potential Democrat voters into our country and get them the vote, this will solve their problem for many decades to come.
This, of course, without any consideration by Democrats of the impact these tens of millions of illegal aliens will have on actual U.S. citizens and legal immigrants, and on their safety, culture, and livelihoods.
