Congratulations! Eleven titles since 2000 with at least One in each major sport.
Their WS record in the 21st century is remarkable.
A glorious time to be a fan of Boston sports. Sox champs. Celtics knocking on the door. Pats always in the running. Let’s make it complete and have some Mass pols lose, such as Elizabeth Warren.
Neo, the Edit is back.
Best wire to wire Red Sox team of my lifetime, and I’m not young.
Congrats, they earned it.
Congratulations!
A tip of the hat to the Red Sox and an even bigger one to Neo.
Red Sox totally outclassed the competition. Great team with (mostly) great fans! (after spelling “Sox” the odd way as a sign of respect, I now revert to referencing the team by my preferred spelling “redsocks”.)
Congratulations New England. Some good news to end a tragic weekend.
I loved watching the sponsors drop new shiny pickup trucks on everybody.
I liked that Alex Cora put Jackie Bradley Jr. in the outfield for the last inning. First, because JBJ’s a better defensive player, but mostly, so he could be on the field for the final out, to celebrate with his outfielder teammates. A nice touch.
“SOX win it all!”
I’m going to take a page out of Hillary’s team’s book, and refuse to acknowledge that the Sox won the WS.
First of all, I think we need a re-count on the scores of all the games. Counting games is not right — did the Sox really score more runs in the series? (Spoiler alert: they did, but you get the point.)
Secondly, it is clear the Dodgers were the favorite, so there has to have been some collusion between the Red Sox and the officiating staff.
Third, the fact that the Red Sox were at bat first in three of the five games proves there was collusion and that the outcome was rigged.
Finally, everyone knows the Dodgers are a better team, so there is no way the Sox can win if everything was on the up-and-up: we need an independent investigation of all five games.
So there.
I am a Dodger fan, so “There is no joy in Mudville.”
But, I have to agree that the Red Sox deserved the Title. Congratulations.
Next year… 🙂
Bruins next!!
Not thrilled. But at least the Dodgers lost.
PS – exactly 100 years ago the Red Sox won their fourth WS in seven seasons. They were the most dominant team by far in the early 1900s. The following year they sold their best player to New York’s weakest franchise which had yet to win so much as a pennant. Just sayin’.
FOAF:
Those are facts of which every sports fan in New England is aware. I doubt management will make that particular error this time. And of course baseball has changed. There’s a lot of big big money in it now and different rules. This is what happened in the original situation.
I assume you’re being funny, but this is serious stuff to any Red Sox fan 🙂 .
Can’t they do a line dance or something? The puppy-pile pogo gets old.
Time for Red Sox poor-mouthing to end! I first became a baseball fan when the Red Sox were in a bad period, from 1960-1966, so poor-mouthing came rather easily for me. From 1960-1966, the Red Sox averaged 72-89 for a season and finished next to last three times. The only other time when the Red Sox were really bad- which I define as more than 2-3 games below .500, was 1922-1933. From 1922-1933, the Red Sox averaged a 56-97 record and finished 6th once, 7th twice, and 8th -last place- nine times.
Other than those two bad periods, it’s been pretty good for Red Sox fans. Only three teams have won as many or more World Series than the Red Sox.
World Series Won Lost Pct.Series Pct. WS Games
Yankees 27 13 0.675 .598
Cardinals 11 8 0.579 .492
Red Sox 9 4 0.692 .628
Athletics 9 5 0.643 .547
Giants 8 12 0.4 .500
Dodgers 6 14 0.3 .419
Of the teams that have played in least three World Series, the Red Sox have the highest win percentage for games played: .628.
No more poor-mouthing, Sox fans!
Though I suspect that is best directed at me than at other readers of this blog.
My far-flung family was texting back and forth in the 8th inning with hopes that Machado would get the last out — and then he did, and almost fell down while he did it. I confess there were some chortles.
Mrs Whatsit:
Nobody likes Machado, except perhaps his mother, his wife. and his dog.
Became a Sox fan in 75 while growing up in Arkansas. So since 04’s historic comeback it’s been a great 15 years!!
neo: and I’m not too sure about the dog.
One of my greatest fears is that Machado becomes a Yankee. The Horror….
