The latest on the blog glitch
[UPDATE 11:00 PM 4/26/3017
One hint:
I’ve discovered that if you force a cache refresh by pressing CTL + F5, you can usually make the blog display the comments and the posts properly. Let me know if you see the most recent posts when you do that.
All you computer experts or semi-experts out there, do you have any advice for fixing things, based on this new information? I’m still getting professionals to help, but they’re taking longer than I’d like.]
A bit of progress has been made. I’ve finally heard back from one of the many companies that specialize in troubleshooting WordPress problems, and they’re on the case. It may be a quick fix (I’m hoping so), or it may take a day or two.
In the meantime, keep checking your autofills, and realize that there can be a time lag before a post or a comment displays.
There may be an upside to all of this, which is that I may be able to get the fixers to improve the way the blog looks (wider columns, for example) and the speed at which it loads.
There’s a pony somewhere, if I just keep digging.
Test.
I first ran across the pony story in James Kirkwood’s novel, “There Must Be a Pony!” I read his “P.S. Your Cat is Dead,” found it hilarious and went on to the rest of his books.
Kirkwood is best known as a co-author of the book behind “A Chorus Line,” which made him a millionaire and apparently disturbed his ability to focus. He was unable to complete his many later projects.
I sure read a lot more novels when I was younger. But these days reading so much on the web plus an impatience with current literature has reduced my interest close to nil. If I do read fiction, I’m more likely to reread an old favorite or listen to the audiobook version.
I just finished “The War of the Worlds” (HG Wells) and am now on “Demian” (Hermann Hesse).
The last contemporary novel I got through (but barely) was Philip Roth’s “Plot Against America” (2004) which seemed another idiotic instance of Bush Derangement Syndrome eating the brains out of the literary world.
Neo…you seem to be getting close to a fix on your glitch. I’m back in the autofill name slot and my e-address is seems a nice refreshing message – thanks.
You’re mighty close to that pony…or a cigar.
Auto fill correct
Written @ 6:02 pm CDT
By the way, I published another long post about 3 hours ago (as of the writing of this comment, which is at around 7:20 PM). It hasn’t displayed yet, although it is published. It’s about Obama and Iran, and the new article at Politico. I’m wondering whether anyone is seeing it.
Two improvements:
One: the Name and Mail fields for comments are blank now, instead of having the info of the previous commenter.
Two: the Preview button is back.
Sorry to report that I just got a phony auto fill.
I used your suggestion of entering a phony email; and ignored the one that pre-filled.
Neo, sorry that you have to put up with this nonsense. Could there be a nefarious force at work?
Oops. Now it has prefilled with my phony email.
BTW, it involves my boyhood hero, Sam Spade.
Oldflyer:
It has stopped autofilling for me with other people’s emails, but the problem is by no means gone.
Yes, it could be a nefarious force. I think it probably isn’t, though, if I had to bet. I’m running some hacking checks in the background to find out, but you get some false positives and some false negatives with that.
I wrote a post around 4:30 PM that still hasn’t showed up, and that is distressing. But I have various people I’m trying to get to fix the whole thing (for a fee, naturally). I think it will be fixed in a day or two (I hope!!). Till then it’s very frustrating.
No autofil for me here.
It appears that my right stuff is in the auto-fill so all I have to say is that when I was reading my NRA magazine about the FBI shootout with Baby Face Nelson my neighbor Bill Helmer was mentioned twice. Bill lives on what was the furtherest NE corner of Boerne, Texas and an one time he was the legal editor of PLAYBOY magazine and an authority on the 1930’s gangster.
This has nothing to do with nothing but it is weird to wake up and start reading a magazine about 3 in the morning and see your neighbor’s name several times.
Well the autofill seems right for me now but I still saw this post as having one 1 comment then clicked on it and there were actually 11.
Plus I don’t see anything about Iran.
Well, I’m M J R again [huzzahs], but autofill is still autofilling the fake address I invented a cuppla days ago.
Also, the “Preview” capability, which had been missing, is now active and functioning again.
Progress, methinks.
Yes, it could be a nefarious force. I think it probably isn’t, though, if I had to bet.
Me neither. This is most likely something stupid. Maybe even the classic buffer overrun, if the underlying code is written in C.
Someone added a new feature or fixed a bug in the WordPress codebase and there were unintended consequences.
Kinda where we’re at with government these days.
Whoa! My comment appeared immediately. That’s an improvement.
Oddly I just did a little checking and at least for me the comments number match up with actual number on the last several posts correctly but on this one I still see it as listing 1 comment until I click on it and it then shows all 15 comments. Weird.

For me the home page says there is 1 comment as I am amking the18th.
I’m still miklos. No, I’m not.

It’s a caché p`roblem.
You can find here a difference between the request in F5 and Ctrl+F5
http://podlipensky.com/2012/03/behind-refresh-button/
And here an article about how to prevent the browser from caching the page.
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/234067/how-to-prevent-caching-in-internet-explorer
According to that, including in the header
would solve the problem.
You already have in your header this meta
I would try to add the new meta after it and watch if the problem is solved.
Damn, the html lines don’t appear in the comment.
