Shorter Dana Milbank…
…on Gorsuch: he’s too retro and sort of folksy.
What sort of idiocy is this column by Milbank in the WaPo? It sounds like junior high school gossip:
No fewer than eight times [Gorsuch] punctuated his testimony with “Leave It to Beaver” exclamations of “goodness” ”” “goodness, no!” “oh, my goodness!” ”” and, though only 49 years old, spoke in archaic phrases: “since I was a tot,” “a fair and square deal,” “doesn’t give a whit.”
Perhaps Milbank would prefer it if Gorsuch had said “doesn’t give a shit”? Would that have been modern and edgy enough?
Poor Milbank, couldn’t find anything more substantial to criticize than this? “He’s not cool and edgy like us” is not a reason to vote down on the Gorsuch nomination.
This weekend we watched some Robert Osborne interviews and I commented to my husband my wish that we could return to times of such respect and dignity in on-air interchanges. It seems that ship has sailed.
One could really imagine a time when an Editor would look at Milbank and say: “Really? Is this your best shot?” Good old days.
Gorsuch’s demeanor is a little “different”. But, hardly more so than any of several Justices who have sat, or are now sitting. He cannot be too bad, because one his favorite hobbies is “fly fishing”; an activity requiring patience, attention to detail, tolerance for frustration, and willingness to stand in very cold water for extended periods.
Milbank’s small mindedness is consistent with the trivial, one could say mindless, questions from Democratic Senators.
It is hard to fathom why the concept of “original intent” as it applies to principles is so difficult for them to grasp. Unless, of course, they grasp it very clearly, and fear it.

I’ll have to look up Milbank’s column where he laughs at Christopher Buckley’s “Hey guy … Mater and Pater … cut of the jib” prose stylings; emitted as he sailed off to join the liberal legion. Ta ta!
Dana Milbank is just you typical corrupt, dishonest WAPO reporter. He wrote an article on how a Muslim had been attacked after asking a question at a conservative group meeting. Well, there was a recording of the exchange which was posted on the website of a local radio station and the exchange was very polite. No one was attacked or called names.
So, he should just use the f word every other sentence. Right? There are decent people in this country, but maybe not on the coasts.

That will never happen. Milbank will convert as soon as he feels personally threatened. There is a yellow streak down the back of the vast majority of liberals because collaboration is the last refuge of those who would appease the crocodile.
Dana is a perfect representative of the dishonest media. He is one of the group that the rest of America hates.

My reading of the column is that he is saying Gorsuch comes across as exceedingly folksy and eager, unlike most all justices who have come before the Senate. But that he is likely doing that in part to make his confirmation easier. And that he will likely be a rascal on the court and anger the very Democrats he is now wooing. He is not saying Gorsuch should not be confirmed because of his aww shucks manner. Merely that he probably has more bite than he now shows. I think it’s legit.
Well, that settles it!
He just isn’t as cool as Obama as when Obama gave the middle finger to McCain or called Tea-Party members “Teabaggers.”
Maybe Gorsuch should have called voters “deplorables”?

Gorsuch is a conservative, and everyone knows it. What’s so rascally about that? There’s no split between Gorsuch’s manner and his conservative rulings. There’s no dichotomy there,
