The fountain of boogie woogie jitterbugging youth
Here’s a video featuring dancer Jean Veloz. I believe it was filmed back in the 1940s (with incredibly corny narration):
Here’s Jean at 90:
Jean Veloz is apparently still going strong now, at around 92. It’s hard to see any change in the shape of her body, and she certainly still has the moves. I watched a couple of videos of her talking that seemed to be taken when she was around 90, and she said her concession to age is that she always wears flat shoes now when she dances, whereas before she usually wore heels.
I’ve heard that narrator’s voice on various shorts on TCM.
Ms. Veloz has herself some good genetic material, and no doubt maintained her physical health religiously.
What wonderful knees and back she must have. I tried that at my 50th anniversary party and wound up having back surgery. It is so nice to see her loving the dance and still able to do it.
“What wonderful knees and back she must have.”
I thought the same thing. I am nowhere near 90 but I envy her 90 year old knees.
When that narrator said it was the dance of youth, he wasn’t kidding!
I love that “corny narration”. Goes with the time period. Boy, this woman can dance! I’m sure it’s what kept her young and spry. I am envious.
I shared this with Sonny Watson, US Open Swing champion, who has the entire movie. Ms. Veloz lives about three blocks from the Tarzana studio where Sonny still teaches …
