Shooting at Planned Parenthood
We still know very little about the background and motive to the Planned Parenthood shooting in Colorado yesterday. The suspect is in custody and three people are dead, including a police officer.
It is easy to speculate that the gunman was someone on the order of a case I (purely by coincidence) wrote about yesterday, that of the assassination of abortion doctor George Tillman by an anti-abortion killer. Or it could be one of those where the shooter is essentially, to use the vernacular, crazy. Or something else. We simply don’t know, but just about everyone can agree that it is deplorable.
And that’s where it stands at the moment.
Doesn’t sound like an attack on PP, though the Progressives will make it so. I’ve seen no reports of PP people that were shot.
By the AP: “Ozy Licano was in the two-story building’s parking lot when he saw someone crawling toward the clinic’s door. He tried to escape in his car when the gunman looked at him. He came out, and we looked each other in the eye, and he started aiming, and then he started shooting,” Licano said. “I saw two holes go right through my windshield as I was trying to quickly back up and he just kept shooting and I started bleeding.”
Licano drove away and took refuge at a nearby grocery store.”
Does this sound like an attack on PP, I ask?
A stupid question to ask because if my supposition is true, we’ll likely never know. Is it possible that someone put him up to this for political reasons? Is it possible he was manipulated to perform this act? If what happened is shown to be as it appears, there is little question who it helps politically. The left’s continuing goal is acquisition of more and more power. What better way than broad-brush their opponents with the motives of this shooter. I wonder if anyone from the left is in contact with the Colorado authorities in an attempt to set a political frame for the crime.
Anti-killer killer. Interesting. Perhaps if it was done in self-defense.
Yes, abortion/murder and planned/cannibalism of millions of wholly innocent human lives annually is deplorable. The final solution under the quasi-religious pro-choice doctrine is evidence of an undeveloped mindset and juvenile delinquency.
That said, while the Planned Parenthood corporation, and the abortion industry generally, are guilty of committing, and aiding and abetting, crimes against humanity, they are, unfortunately, not an actionable offense when a substantial minority consider it a rite and a majority tolerate its practice in private cells.
The MSM calls it The Planned Parenthood Shooting, though no PP person was attacked. He shot at people outside the building, then took shelter in it. It is propaganda.
Pretty clear he is a nut-job loner, a chronically loose screw. Sorry, Neo; that does not fit your terminology or your diagnostic criteria!
Frog:
That’s right. We are not in a state of war, and this was not an act of self-defense per se. The loose screw took it upon himself to place the morally insane in the Planned Parenthood office at risk.
Frog:
Do you actually read my posts before you comment? Because you sometimes seem to miss what I’ve already said.
Such as when you write:
And yet I had already written:
Which pretty much matches what you have written. The reason I used the non-specific word “crazy” is that I meant pretty much what you said. A certain number of shooters are just strange, weird guys who everyone they meet knows are strange (often “loners”), and people try to keep away from them if possible because they know they are loose cannons waiting to go off.
n.n.:
First of all, we still don’t know what went on with the shooter; it’s not even clear those killed and wounded were in the clinic (the police officer, plus a couple of others who were wounded and told reporters their stories about it, seem to have been attacked in the parking lot, for example). It’s really really hard to get accurate information on this, but after reading dozens of articles it seems to me that he began shooting in a strip mall parking lot at passers by, randomly. Then he exchanged gunfire with police on the scene. The dead and wounded are not being identified except for the officer shot, but I have read that no one in the Planned Parenthood office was hurt. This could end up changing as we get more information, of course.
My best guess at the moment, though—and this is very tentative—is that he began shooting randomly in a strip mall parking lot near a supermarket and a Planned Parenthood office. Police came to the scene, he shot some more, and then he ran into the clinic, where he hid while continuing to exchange gunfire with the police (some of whom may have followed him into the building).
If this was initially an attack on the office, why does it appear (so far, anyway), that he attacked people (including men) in the mall parking lot rather than inside the office? Why have the police said they don’t know the motive? And his neighbors back in NC say he never talked politics or religion. He was one of those loose cannons, hurting animals and getting into petty fights with people.
See this and this for facts so far.
From the latter article:
Also, it seems to me you’re taking the unconscionable position that people in abortion clinics are fair game?
neo-neocon:
I specifically stated that it is not fair game to abort/kill them, other than for a lone individual to act upon and enjoy the consequences of their own initiative. That, however, is a given for all criminal actions and does not imply anything outside of this isolated context.
As for what happened, I will not bother to speculate, and will simply state that his choice placed other human lives at risk. And, of course, to note the tragic irony of selecting people who reject intrinsic or exceptional value of human life on principle.
neo-neocon:
Without discussing the instances of where self-defense is justified, have I offered you cause to believe that I support summary executions?
While I acknowledge the incontrovertible fact of human evolution from conception, I also acknowledge that our civilization has deemed it to be negotiable. I do not generally support exchanging one life for another, and so the preferred choice must be societal and individual reform.
The consequences of corrupt and dysfunctional orientations and behaviors will not be constrained to the individuals involved. And it must be acknowledged that Planned Parenthood’s practice of cannibalizing and trafficking the remains of viable human lives is evidence of a degenerative state.
n.n:
I misunderstood one of your sentences to be implying that. Looking at it again, I don’t think it’s what you meant. So I believe it was my error.
When the Left’s propaganda branches use WMDs, that’s a reason to disbelieve other people connected to the Left. It’s not a reason to start believing in the Second Messiah that is going to “save” the US… what’s left of it at least.
But, most people will do the opposite, and they’ll fall for the con, again.
The picture I saw of Mr. Dear shows him with the same wide-eyed stare that Adam Lanza had.
My best guess: a crazy guy (or rather *another* crazy guy) who decided to go off his meds.
Too bad Obama is focused on gun-grabbing; if he were to agitate-and-organize for “safe places for people with mental illness” (ie, public mental hospitals), he might actually accomplish one thing of value during his tenure.
… As. If.
Neo:
Sometimes I comment on what you write, and sometimes not, but rather on your link.
In this case, I passed on your words, because we have had differing views on aspects of mental derangements. Thus I used the word “crazy” without knowing you had slumped to my level!
Glad we agree!
Neo:
I tried to respond to you but the blog said I was posting a duplicate comment.
Oops, musta been a technical delay.
who decided to go off his meds.
Mind altering mood drugs before year 25, such as marijuana, has a permanent effect on the brain dev cycle. There is no way to get off medication for people who were pharmaceutically conditioned when they were children.
neo-neocon:
That’s fine. It’s not easy to discuss controversial issues, and it’s harder to track their nuances in a “staccato” format.
PP, by referring to the “vicious” videos which came out in the fall as a cause are putting themselves in a box.
The implication is that finding out what they do would normally put anybody in a killing frenzy. Not sure they ought to go there.
Anyway, they need the ink.
If we had found that NAZI Germany was growing babies to near term and then aborting them in inhuman ways to preserve the value of the the baby parts, we would have hunted down the mass murderers and their Island of Doctor Moreau wannabes customers and hanged them all.
Lurker:
I hope you realize that there is absolutely no point of correspondence between your analogy and the facts of the situation here.
