Why have Republican “debates” at all?
I put the word “debates” in scare quotes because they aren’t really debates.
What they are at this point is an opportunity for the MSM to play “gotcha” and elicit a series of sound bites that will make each Republican candidate in turn look bad, as well as a chance to have the candidates tear each other down and weaken the eventual nominee. Why should the Democrats work any harder than they have to?
It’s high time—in fact, way past the time—Republicans learned that making nice to the MSM will get them noting but grief, and that it isn’t even necessary. Both Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton have successfully thumbed their noses at the media and it has paid off for them. I realize the Republicans are in a position that is the polar opposite because the MSM is on the other side. But that doesn’t change the fact that the MSM has become more openly biased and more and more unnecessary, so why bother?
[NOTE: Drew M. at Ace’s suggests a candidate forum as an alternative.]
I would suggest that conservative candidates reply that they are “willing to participate in a debate moderated by a panel of newspeople from the most-watched cable news network”.
Sound reasonable and willing to engage, while simultaneously undermining the credibility of the LeftStreamMedia.
I have two theories:
Theory #1:The MSM guys and girls are going to mainly target the more conservative candidates. The corporate party knows this. In a debate, they’ll be gunning for Scott Walker and ted Cruz, not Jeb, because they know that Jeb is the most beatable in a general election. So one reason why the party tolerates the MSM moderating intraparty debates is that to an extent, the agendas of the corporate party and the MSM overlap.
Theory #2: Of course, you could shave with Occam’s razor and say that the Republicans keep letting the MSM moderate because they’re just that suicidally dumb, and the party is trapped in a downward spiral of stupid from which there is no escape.
These theories are not mutually exclusive.
Get a kickstarter where the voters and communities moderate.
At least make the Left pay people to get them bused in if they want to interfere. Don’t hire Leftists as moderators and we get to pay their bill of fame.
Juist like Charlie Brown and the football. Every day is a new day and this time they might get to kick it.
Candy Crowley, Ezra Klein and Journolist, Dan Rather and the National Guard papers… Does a group of network anchors have to rush on stage and start lopping off heads while shreiking Stop the war on women! before Republicans get it?
Only because you asked:
The reason is that the republican party is the, STUPID PARTY. (Donkey Party is the, CRIMINAL PARTY)
It is their duty to play the role, show up to “debates” and succumb to the abuse meted out by those such as, Candy Crowley, George Stephanopoulos, et al.
Rumor has it that George is out this year. Not to worry, taking his place is, Michael Moore or Howard Dean or Rosie O’Donnell.
Whew, finally, some semblance of fairness.
Please God, none of these utterly stupid debates
that just affords the MSM a free fire zone @ non
Democrat candidates.
It s like an alternate universe, the MSM grills, grills & creates an *agenda* (eg war on women) to keep firing at them all the while asking Dems
soft ball questions *if* questioning them at all !
Rinos want to be loved by the msm, conservatives want to get things done in the real world of main street.
I think the republicans were actually dumb enough to agree to have Stephanopoulus moderate some of the debates, but fortunately for them he was outed as a Clinton supporter, which I think we suspected anyway, in spite of his efforts to go straight.
Totally agree. It would be way cooler to have a shirtless WWF style cage match. (Carly Fiorina is exempt from shirtless competition, for obvious, and possibly not obvious reasons)
All contestants would be allowed to wear robes during the intros, with the names and logos of their highest paying donors all over, like an Indy sports car. Tattoos with donor names, policy stances, etc would be allowed, but no R rated stuff.
The last man standing gets 10 minutes of prime time TV to trash talk Hillary, and challenge her to a smackdown in Madison Square Garden – instead of presidential debates. Candy Crowley can referee. I’d pay to see her body slam Jeb Bush.
HBO or Showtime could sell tickets at $99, and the raise funds for the winner.
I’m betting on Hillary to cankle-drop the Republican in the first 5 minutes.
This is why the idiot masses saw 2 interviews of Sarah palin and then started talking Democrat propaganda points.
I knew all along that those interviews were fakes designed to manipulate people’s emotions. Watching people get so easily motivated, as in the conservatives, really clarified the situation back then.
When the leadership and the people are weak, the Left will reap riches galore.
I’ve posted this on several forums, so here’s another:
In this day of content on demand, there’s no reason the GOP has to sweat getting 14 people on the same stage at the same time.
Have as many debates/interviews/infomercials as they like and stream the content online.
If they like, they can hold a couple of old-timey debates on the 3 networks…just like pawpaw did back in the 1960s.
This allows every voter to see whomever they want, whenever they want and has the added bonus of taking power away from the MSM gatekeepers.
The precise format doesn’t matter, but if they have moderators I would like one from each camp: a moderate, an independent/libertarian and a conservative.
Conservative suggestions: Rush Limbaugh and Mark Levin. (they will NOT let RINOs escape without a good grilling)
Show Trials?
Yes, yes…
That they are.
Neo, you done broke the code.
Re georgie, he was NOT going to be a moderator at the latest debates, even before his Clinton sycophancy
was exposed. That fellow Preibus (GOP chairman)
said Stephanopolous was a no go this time around.
( will you look at that RINO’s actually figured something out)
That just means the newbie at chess avoided the fool’s mate. Doesn’t mean they’ll get any farther.
So…what about monster trucks?
