Democrats vs. Republicans: the history of Jim Crow
Try sending this article on the history of Jim Crow to every liberal Democrat you know who claims that Republicans are the racist party:
Here is the heart of the issue, where the left has hijacked the true history of Jim Crow. The dividing line over Jim Crow was never liberals vs. conservatives; it’s far more accurate to describe it as Democrats versus Republicans. Not only in the 1800s, when the KKK served as the paramilitary arm of the Democratic Party, but right into the 1950s and 1960s. Bookman’s assertion that “conservatives in the Republican Party ”¦ fought against civil rights” is utterly false. As historian Dr. John Fonte noted on NRO in 2003, staunchly conservative Republicans led the fight for civil rights in the Senate…
Further contradicting the Left’s narrative, there was no sudden shift of segregationists from Democrat to Republican after the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The truth is, white Southerners continued to vote in large numbers for the Democratic Party until the advent of Ronald Reagan in 1980. The Democrats never “dispatched” segregationists from their party, as Benen claims. It’s more accurate to say Southern Democratic segregationists died off than that they switched parties. In any case, no Southerners shifted from the Democrats to the GOP because the GOP offered shelter to racism. Republicans never adopted racist policies, as Democrats had for more than a century…
Those sorts of arguments are all very well and good. But anyone who’s argued with a liberal about the topic (as I have) knows what the rejoinder will often be: that may have been true in the past, but the people who are Republicans now are the racists who would have been Democrats way back then, whether or not the actual Democrats switched at the time to become Republicans.
But anyone offering that argument is merely asserting a belief that today’s Republicans are yesterday’s Democrats. It becomes a mere article of faith, a claim that Republicans are racist because the South is racist, and the South is now Republican rather than Democrat, therefore Republicans must be racist. The “southern strategy,” which has often been cited to support that, has not only been debunked by the actual history of party voting in the South, and how slowly the shift to Republican control occurred, but by previous articles such as this fine one appearing in 2004 in The Claremont Review of Books as well as this one by Sean Trende.
And yet it has a long and active life. These days the racism of the right (and particularly of the Tea Party) is often asserted by the left. It is imputed by “dog whistles” which have virtually no relation to race at all but are supposedly secret signals to the racists who constitute the Republican Party. And if those can’t be found, they are alleged anyway, and/or pretend Republican racists are planted to “prove” the charges.
This continues to be done because the perception that Republicans are racist is one of the most important tactics of the left, liberals, and Democrats in general. It is probably responsible for a huge percentage of their votes, both among black people and among people who want to avoid being associated even for a moment with any group that could possibly be considered in sympathy with racists, lest they be suspected of racism themselves. It is a way to invalidate other opinions of the right, too—for example, the small-government message of the Tea Party—that otherwise might appeal to many more people.
The myth of the racist Republicans cannot be allowed to die because way too much depends on it.
[NOTE: Actual polls on racism are—as no less than Nate Silver writes—suspect. People differ in their willingness to admit racism to a pollster. But the differences in racism as admitted in polls between white Democrats and white Republicans (does anyone measure the racism of black people or Asians?) are miniscule, and the numbers of people who will admit to racist views in either party are small.]
Your article by Sean Trende is a good find. I was familiar with “The Myth of the Racist Republicans” article since it came out ten years ago.
“The Myth of the Racist Republicans” article prompted me to research how Democrat versus Republican Presidential candidates had run in the 11 states of the old Confederacy, usually designated the South. The Trende article repeated much of what I had found.
When Eisenhower got 48% of the vote in the South in 1952, compared to Romney’s getting 54% of the vote in 2012, it is difficult to conclude that opposition to the 1964 Civil Rights Bill is what drove the increase of the Republican vote in the South.
Every time I’m confronted by one of these dogma-spouting lefties, I like to throw the examples of Detroit and Chicago back at them.
Multi-generational ghettos that have trapped blacks in a cycle of poverty and violence, with nary a Republican in sight for 40 years.
They tend to shut up after that.
IMO this essay by Blackwell demonstrates the essential need of crafting the narrative (aka the national dialogue). The Dems have done very well at this because they have been willing to be “in your face” about it, have been willing to couch their ideology in a false moral rectitude and have enlisted the media as allies in both their message and their method.
The Tea Party, which has recently faded from the news, seems to me to be as close to the 1960s leftist activism as the right has yet to evolve. It is a good start, but it just prompts the observation that we are looking at a long-term generational battle here. Currently it’s an uphill battle. All the more reason to slough off occasional defeat, avoid despondence and continue to fight the good fight.
I sent you a copy on this.. 🙂
not to mention that they also forget the knights of the white camelia… ie. omit some of the worst offenders from hayes tilden (which is scrubbed of the congressional testimony and completely changed from the history of the period)
Knights of the White Camelia
in order to read history in our new age, you have to know the terms and the people, or else, omission will keep you from realizing that something is missing…
ie. there is no way for a person to know what is missing unles someone shows them, or tells them, or they read it elsewhere and then go look
how would you know there was a hole in your knowlege?
someone else without that hole would know… no?
It doesn’t matter. Because, narrative.
note that the wiki links to
Christopher Long, “KNIGHTS OF THE WHITE CAMELLIA”, Handbook of Texas Online, accessed 28 June 2010
but that is gone… scrubbed…
you can read about this stuff in the book i mentioned several times. its a VERY interesting read as you can see the democrats and their methods have barely changed!!!
THE DISPUTED PRESIDENTIAL
ELECTION OF 1876
http://archive.org/stream/hayestildendisp00hawo/hayestildendisp00hawo_djvu.txt
the newspaper clippings from the new york times is interesting.
but this is RARE history… i have yet to meet anyone other than a black baptist preacher in the south that mentions her or remembers her
Conservatives need to set in motion an appeal to blacks to embrace the real leaders of the past; people like Frederick Douglas, George Washington Carver, and Booker T Washington. Their message was empowerment through education, hard work, and strong families. The message has to contrast the welfare plantation and what it has done to blacks as individuals/families and the conservative principles of individual responsibilities and achievement. Same goes for hispanics, many of whom already display those principles.
there is also a reference in the book

here is evidence they still teach it somewhere.

Who Were the Pale Faces? New Perspectives on the Tennessee Ku Klux
https://muse.jhu.edu/login?auth=0&type=summary&url=/journals/civil_war_history/v051/51.1harcourt.html
Middle Tennessee was a region where Confederate sentiment remained strong and where blacks had been terrorized by white gangs loosely styled after the Ku Klux Klan of neighboring Pulaski. Columbia, in fact, had spawned its own white supremacist fraternity, the Order of Pale Faces, which since January 1868 had been chastising freedpeople and white Unionists in a campaign of terror aimed at ending Republican rule.
lots of interesting stuff in the congressional record
though last i heard, a lot of stuff is missing
as they found parts hidden under stair cases out of the way so that people could not read it or find it, but it was still there…
The first important conflict took place in New Orleans in July, 1866, as a result of an attempt of the radicals, with the consent of the governor and a judge of the state supreme court, to reconvene the constitutional convention of 1864 in order to enfranchise the blacks. Mayor Monroe made preparations to suppress the convention; a riot occurred ; and a most inhuman massacre resulted, in which about forty negroes and white radicals were killed and about 136 were wounded.
The next important race conflicts occurred in the
late summer and fall of 1868. In the spring of that
year an election was held at which the new constitu-
tion was ratified and at which H. C. Warmoth, Repub-
lican candidate for governor, was elected by a majority
of over 26,000. Later in the year the Knights of the
White Camelia, an organization similar to the Ku
Klux, entered upon a campaign of violence and intim-
idation, with the result that the Republican majority of
the spring was transformed into a Democratic plurality
of about 46,000 for Seymour. This astonishing re-
versal w^as later explained by Republican members of a
congressional investigating committee in the following
language :
Prhe convention apnears to have had no legal right to re-assemble, but, on the other hand, the mayor’s action was unwarranted. For an account of the affair and an un-qualified condemnation of the mayor see Cox Three Decades of Federal Legislation, pp. 430-432. H. R. R. No. 16, 39th Cong 2d SPSS, contains a vast amount of testimony bearmg upon the subject.
The massacre was used with great effect by the radical Republicans in the North. See also Rhodes, History of the United States from the Compromise of 1850, V, pp. 611-bld,
this is all forgotten, as well as the dems using the war and these events to get the longshormen in ny to attack blacks during the draft riots.. (gangs of ny scrubbed that dem history completely from the movie to make the irish poor look like – well, what they made them look like)
go find the testimony… its very very interesting…
but no one believes it if you tell them.
here is what wiki says
The New York City draft riots (July 13—16, 1863; known at the time as Draft Week[2] were violent disturbances in New York City that were the culmination of working-class discontent with new laws passed by Congress that year to draft men to fight in the ongoing American Civil War. The riots remain the largest civil insurrection in American history, aside from the Civil War itself
there is no mention of the racial component of the democrats telling the unions that blacks would come and take their jobs!!!
“Willing to fight for Uncle Sam,” but not “for Uncle Sambo,” wrote one Pennsylvania newspaper
when the irish went on strike, the docks hired blacks to take their place… making the history that the dems fomented seem true
so the riots not only were against the state, like socilaists want to claim, but it was the equivalent of black crystal nacht.
after that, all the black busineses and things were destroyed and they were pushed up to harlem
another mob was over at 5th Avenue and 43rd Street, attacking an orphanage where 237 Black children under the age of 12 lived. Possessed rioters attacked every Black they encountered. Families were chased down and killed; helpless Blacks were lynched. During the riot, a Mohawk Indian was beaten to death because the mob believed he was Black.
they leave out a lot… what they leave out where the whites who loaded the kids onto boats and floated them out into the river so that the mobs could not get to them.. and that there were blacks on the police force and more..
so even when not scrubbed, its scrubbed.
parker @ 4:01 pm,
Any Republican appeal to minorities will fall upon deaf ears.
It will do so for several reasons; minorities are convinced that they will always be excluded from the ‘whites only need apply club’ because that is exactly what they do, unless ‘the other’ is willing to assume subservience of course. The brutal truth is that white America’s loyalty to Christianity and the Declaration of Independence’s precepts and the civil rights protests of the 60’s forced whites to confront their racism. No other racial group has yet confronted their own racism. Racism being an ‘equal opportunity’ human disease.
The other primary reason is that, using the above as excuse, the racial grievance industry and the entitlement state provide precious advantages that allow minorities to tilt the playing field in their favor. Ironically, it is their own racism that allows them to justify and rationalize this state of affairs.
Now that we are importing central and south America within our shores, these lawbreaking socialist ‘immigrants’ will not vote (once they have their expedited path to citizenship) to end the gravy train.
In 1787, 18 years before Toqueville’s birth, Alexander Tytler observed, “A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government. A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship”
We are in the process of proving just how prescient was Tytler.
In the fine tradition of blood libel.
GB,
For a significant % of blacks you are correct. But reaching out and changing the perspective of a mere 10% would be worth the effort as they would join the 5% who are already in the conservative camp. People learn by example. Examples that are successful turn heads. Its a slow process, it might be futile as you suggest, but I think its worth the effort. What do conservatives have to lose?
Nitpick alert!
Neo writes, “But the differences in racism . . . are miniscule, . . . .” I remember well (a good quarter century ago now) an editor -slash- reviewer of one of my technical research papers nailing me on this one.
We want to spell it “miniscule”, because “mini” suggests tininess, but in fact it’s spelled “minuscule”!
Forgive my presumptuousness neo but I nominate MJR as one of the official grammar police of this blog.
I also learned something I did not know. Now if I can only retain it… but that’s what we have people like MJR for, right?
FDR invented the “southern strategy.” He was able to unite urban big-government Democrats with the truly racist Democratic South, who, of course, were anti-Republican since the Civil War.
parker,
Those are IMO valid points. Better to go down fighting, than meekly yield the field.
“you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. [Yet] There may even be a [still] worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish, than live as slaves.” – Winston Churchill, “The Gathering Storm.”
The racial grievance industry of course includes the Democratic Party. It is fascinating that after a half-century of lying about Republicans and race, ignoring MLK’s dream and doing nothing to lessen black racism, but rather stimulating it, the Democrats are in fact succeeding in forcing racism upon their opponents. It is pretty standard in the blackest part of the US, the Gulf South, to use “Democrat” as a code word for entitlement-supported blacks.
I think it would be “Tinyness”, not “Tinniness”, MJR, if I can be so bold as to correct the corrector.
This is one of those strategic weapons/propaganda the Left has, which people can’t touch. Thus the war can’t be won until certain things on the Left are destroyed and broken.
Geoffrey Britain, 5:08 pm — “Forgive my presumptuousness neo but I nominate MJR as one of the official grammar police of this blog.”
I hope that was lighthearted, as I realize my nitpick came in the midst of very serious comments, and perhaps I should have waited for a better time, or not at all. In fact, a few minutes ago I sent a copy of your (G.B.) 4:33 PM comment out to friends, as it was very succinct, timely, and *true*. Thanks for your comments here.
Don Carlos, 5:17 pm — “I think it would be ‘Tinyness’, not ‘Tininess’, MJR, if I can be so bold as to correct the corrector.”
[laughing at self] I’ll bet you’re right! Lemme look it up . . . [looks it up] . . . nope, “tininess” rules the day.
MJR,
It was definitely meant in a lighthearted vein. I learned something new and that is always to be cherished. And thanks for the compliment.
Per Wiktionary, both exist and of course mean the same. It is a tie! May we always both be Right!
Correction cheerfully accepted, then . . .
I believe it was one of the PowerlineBlog guys who has noted that the methodology of Jim Crow was and remains SOP for the Democratic Party, just that the faces have shifted. The SOP being: keep people separated, scared and at each others throats, then exploit the fear and division for political power.
T, 3:10 pm — “The Dems have done very well at this because they [(a), (b),] and have enlisted the media as allies in both their message and their method.”
[ AHEM ]. “Enlisted the media”. [ AHEM ]
The media (sometimes, and accurately for many of us, called the enemedia) are ringleaders and willing whores.
Ted Kennedy kills a woman. He becomes Senator.
To black people, they can’t tell the difference between a White Republican and a White Democrat. So the Dems shuffle all their guilt unto a convenient scapegoat and black education and abortion sugar daddies make it so that the people believe whatever they are told.
Ymarsakar, 7:11 pm — “To black people, they can’t tell the difference between a White Republican and a White Democrat. So the Dems shuffle all their guilt unto a convenient scapegoat and black education and abortion sugar daddies make it so that the people believe whatever they are told.”
Well, the slavemasters sure are able to convince the black hoi polloi how (for example) Alan Keyes, or Clarence Thomas, or Ben Carson, just ain’t from the ‘hood, or from the same ‘hood as us genuine folks, anyway.
Point taken.
Just to expand on my earlier post, I should have included making people dependent as SOP also. The irony of “hope and change” is that hope is the last thing the messiah wants anyone to have. If you have hope, if you have a sense that your life is under your control, then you don’t need him. Listen to campaign commercials: liberal ones try to make you believe your entire life is dependent on the next election. Conservative and tea party oriented ones talk about how the country is dependent on the next election, but not how any individual is. A big difference.

[note that since i brought it up here, its been taken up by white supremicist organizations and being linked to anti-semitism and lots of hate stuff… it kind of neutralizes the substance of it, as now all you can find is partial versions on very hateful places that equate communism with jewish, the way socialists equate capitalism with jews]

“Slavophilism, the messianism of backwardness, has based its philosophy upon the assumption that the Russian people and their church are democratic through and through, whereas official Russia is a German bureaucracy imposed upon them by Peter the Great. Mark remarked upon this theme: “In the same way the Teutonic jackasses blamed the despotism of Frederick the Second upon the French, as though backward slaves were not always in need of civilised slaves to train them.” This brief comment completely finishes off not only the old philosophy of the Slavophiles, but also the latest revelations of the ‘racists.’”
ie. slavic peoples did not want to give up their culture
african americans were considered to have given up their culture, which others refuse to do. it has NOTHING to do with skin color, it has EVERYTHING to do with culture – and whether you will let others erase it and replace it, or be a anglophile, slavophile, etc…
so, how does that work in terms of what you said?
especially given that the seeds of anti slavery was from the WASPS as is the constitution, as is so much more.
it wasnt that we had to face our culture, it was that southern democrats wanted to use their belief that we had belief in that culture as a means to power. in the case of southern dems and the few but powerful plaintation owners they catered to AND in the case of the german nazis, they believed that the people your referring to would agree with them.
however, by overwhelming proportions they did not, and the dems and left had always known it. which is why, if you read the hayes tilden book, you find out from the testimony that where there was white people who could see what was going on, they threw picnics and bbq and all that with everyone invited… but outside the public view of the COMMON MAN who made up the majority of the actual culture, they were free to hunt people down and change their minds through terror.
through the whole period if you study it, you find out that lots of what you may have learned in school is a farce.
the back of the buss incident was orxchestrated from the top down (dem lawmakers forcing bus owners and drivers to police a law they made, making them the objet of hate, not the officials) and bottom up, rosa parks was getting lessions in her role from the highlander school with many others of the movement
that school was closed because they were creating the history of the south by buying homes as whites, and moving blacks in on moving day, then after they were there, the same people then lit flaming crosses in the front yard, and when that was not enough, they used dynamite.
in ny, they blew up africans, and blamed the JDL… to this day, the jews and blacks of crown heights dont get along, and they do not know they are playing a part in a cultural history play they were set up to play.
everyone took up their social roles based on this kabuky play and the stories they were told… stories designed to set them at each other, while the story tellers sat between them smiling and collecting up their stuff.
sound familiar? we are still living it…
oh… how could the people prior to trotsky in 1930 stop being “racists” when the whole concept and idea never existed until 15 years AFTER the communist revolution?
i do hope you answer addressing this and not me…
Nearly all white Democrats are very strong racists. They view blacks as an inferior species who needs help; and they arrogantly expect that this substandard species of homo-sapiens will vote for them the way a dog would vote for the person who gives them a doggie treat. Democrats give blacks doggie treats, and blacks vote for Dems like Fido guards his master’s home. He never barks at master. He always barks at strangers.
Many blacks are also racist to the core. They are bigoted against whites for sins that happened a hundred years ago. Their bigotry makes no logical or moral sense. For example, my ancestors (Irish) were an oppressed people themselves (by the Brits in Ireland and by “America” in the era of “No Irish Need Apply” (Jim Crow? What about Paddy Crow? I demand my reparations now!). IN any case they were living in Ireland for all those years when blacks were slaves in the South and then subject to Dems in the Jim Crow South.
Can a the descendent of a man who lived in a foreign country when slavery in America was actually happening be guilty of that abuse? Apparently so. Just ask the majority of black people and 99% of Dems and they will tell you it is so.
That’s racist. That’s unjust. That is so un-Martin Luther King its ridiculous.
But fairness and justice is not their aim. Money and power and control are the aim. Period. And nothing else.
Above all, the reason for constantly reciting the history of the Democrat hatred of black people and the political exploitation of hatred of black people, is respect and affection for all Americans, but especially black Americans, because black Americans are true Americans for many reasons, not least of which is their symbolism of freedom, liberty, dignity, and the utter recognition of truth.
It is impossible to understand and love America without understanding and loving black Americans. They are special totally apart from any political import, and I am talking about black Americans who actually descend from slaves.
Subsequent immigrants and their children as well as those who were here before need to honor black Americans and be proud of their citizenship.
More important than the political implications are the cultural, societal implications of stating history as it truly was.
It is never easy to defeat hucksters. If only Andy of Mayberry were here to explain it all in a way we all get.
The first problem is the attitude of non-Leftists. They rightly regard the accusations of racism as ridiculous, and justifiably resent the race-baiters and race-hustlers. This, imo, often closes their minds to even considering the history of the Democrat party’s hatred of black people.
Do you see what I mean? The very subject starts off negatively, preventing a further investigation and proclamation into and of the facts which do more than vindicate the non-Left, they categorically condemn and taint the Left (Democrat party).
It is for the good of America (and black Americans especially) that the Democrat hatred of black people, the explicit use of the word “nigger” in campaigns north and south, the alliance between every national Democrat in the political exploitation of this hatred, be constantly and daily explicated.
The fact that the Democrat hatred of black people is not minutely and constantly examined like the daily Hitler channel examination of Nazis, is in itself a sufficient explanation why the Left has taken over this country. Sufficient both as to substance but also as to the bizarre differential in means and ability to see clearly in the face of absurdity.
This is not an issue which requires activism, just constant truth.
To ride the hobby horse once more, and to address the subject of activism on the issue:
The Democrat party is a legal entity. As a legal entity, it fostered, promoted, exploited, celebrated hatred of black Americans.
If there is racism in this country today, it came from the legacy of the Democrat party, the cultural, societal, attitudinal policy of every Democrat politician who benefits today and always has benefited for 150 years, non-stop.
Please address the issue why Charles Schumer, as a direct beneficiary, should not be responsible for the Democrat party hatred of black Americans. Lol … you can even put aside the issue why he has never, never, apologized or condemned his party’s poisoning of race relations.
The blind among the non-Left will drown themselves in arguments only relevant to people who are not power-holders in the present Democrat party.
There is a long road ahead. If it does not relate to this unanswerable history, it will be futile.
But fairness and justice is not their aim. Money and power and control are the aim. Period. And nothing else.
yup
and if you read the long telegram… you learn that is the only goal and that because of that over everything, they are completely null on good governance – (paranoid)
like the man who started intel said (and wrote)
“Only the paranoid survive…”
The fact that the Democrat hatred of black people is not minutely and constantly examined like the daily Hitler channel examination of Nazis, is in itself a sufficient explanation why the Left has taken over this country
not really since the thing that is never examined is soviet stuff. yeah, big things and mentions here and there like “soviet backed”, but you let me know how many documentaries that you have seen on the soviet stuff? maybe soviet story? http://www.sovietstory.com/
the people saw schindlers list, and at the end, you see a soviet freeing them… but they dont tell you how the soviet soldiers raped the camp women, and german women and so on… the people on the left will say no, but even today, one woman had to erase her presence as she showed off the mascara she got from a body from the shot down plane in the ukraine.
think about it… the movies we have on that are james bond thrillers which did mention things like smersh… and some interesting comedies where a soviet sub or something. or movies like hunt for red october… or dr Zhivago…
but there are very few anytings about the gulags, or the prisons, or the torture chambers (of which the horror movie hostel borrows from). there is very little pointing out that hitler and stalin started it together… or that FDR signed the camps over to stalin who continued to use them after the war. or the jews that the soviets killed (which were put into barges and sunk in the north sea, leaving nothing behind like the camps of the nazis).
today the left thinks that hitler was on the right, stalin on the left… which means that in their minds they are on the left, with stalin… though a browse of soviet story website will show their people colluding together, and even the same posters with same poses, but different leaders.
people go blank if you say holodomar, or katyn, and other stuff… they have no idea that behind the 7 day war, russia stood. or vietnam, they flew migs. that they set off the largest nuclear weapon, so large it rang the earth like a bell several times. (and they invented the lie of nuclear winter which we accept as valid)
its amazing that you can find all manner of movie and documentaries, but not much of anything about that.
Category:Soviet documentary films
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Soviet_documentary_films
there is only 22… soviet story is not listed..
one is latvian: Vai viegli būt jaunam?
soviet story is also baltic created…
and these documentaries dont tell the story either
the latvian one “The movie speaks about young people who perished as a result of growing up in Soviet society”
others are about wwii… and a few are promotional like Vast is my Native Land… (great is my country)
you see, if the people following it knew about it, would they follow it? (not likely)
a lot of what the soviets have done, the people who align with that, believe others did it and are appalled and are aligned because they dont want to be a part of it… but since they believe others did it, they run into the arms of the perpetrators. (so what horrors they do are useful, not just something to worry that will chase away others. murder or poison or shoot down, and in 10 years, someone else did it, and your running to them cause they didn’t)
for the most of it, most dont know much
and if you tell them, they think its a conspiracy theory
a lie that is self serving, etc.. or equate someting we did and so to them, so what
oh and you cant examine the dems if you cant examine soviet stuff…
bill Clinton avoided Vietnam by going to soviet union as a Fulbright scholar at the height of the cold war and in a proxy war with them.. (And people complain about a vacuous movie star, hanoi jane).
their infiltration of the teachers union, movies, and on and on… well known too… but not in documentaries.

you will also notice that when they write, they often include sentences or paragraphs that kind of give a reason that such is to be excused…
you can still read black leaders telling african americans that aids was invented by the US to kill (pick a group). this despite the fact that gorbachev admitted that was a soviet disinformation campaign
and the longest running thing is the priori of zion stuff where the jews will take over the world… they still print it and sent it out…
so much that has been erased or not allowed into the public mind.. and so, they are free to fall into the hole created this way when they try to be good, moral, and upstanding… they run from the incidents but into the arms of the perpetrators.

Mr. Kengor concludes, “if the memo is in fact an accurate account of what transpired, it constitutes a remarkable example of the lengths to which some on the political left, including a sitting U.S. senator, were willing to go to stop Ronald Reagan.”
I’ve been spending more time on Politico, arguing with liberals in real time. It’s as close to “having liberal friends” as I’m likely to get for a while.
Their positions, tactics and psychology are rather simple.
Mostly, emotive and adolescent. Some are vulgar. All seem to have their own “facts,” and most are impervious to argumentation.
The “southern strategy” was sworn, SWORN to be a real thing by several. It came up at least two or three times in debate…or whatever you call what we were doing.
I peg it as a mechanism for absolving themselves and their party of guilt.
In a bizarre way, the Republican party has become Christ-like: taking on the sins of the Democrats so they can live redeemed.
Of course, no gratitude is forthcoming.
I demolished a couple of libs, just shut them down, by posting a litany of cities ruined by Dems, which put the population into chaos and misery: Detroit, Chicago, etc.
I also shut down a Hispanic-American activist by probing him publicly on the vile separatist beliefs of La Raza. Asked him to define “Reconquista.” He never responded, and just went away.
Many of them don’t bother arguing positions, though. Their main activity is either to troll you for the lulz, or to engage in sadistic hectoring until you are demoralized.
Many of their attack have half-truths mixed in, in order to sound convincing.
It’s fun.
The Left is very weak with the true history of slavery in America. They haven’t even bothered loading propaganda defenses into their drones and zombies. As attested to by the fact that Democrats go quiet when you raise the subject. There’s nothing there there.
That means the weakness can be exploited for maximum damage, before they start defending against it.
The problem is, for every single Sarah Palin that begins speaking truth to power, there’s a whole bunch of confederates calling themselves patriots that will crab bucket pull people down. And it’s not the opposition doing it, it’s our so called friends and allies.
This is just great for reaking out democrats, The History of Republican Evil:

sorry about that
Friend neo,
I have recommended your blog to many people. I have also usually added that I greatly recommend the reader comments. I have made known in this forum my high regard for the comments and commenters, generally. [You certainly know of my high regard for you.]
Right now, at this instant in time, I can no longer do this. You are allowing one commenter to hog the comments section — your prerogative, without question. Yes, yes, I’m free to scroll past any comments (and commenters) that don’t suit my tastes. This has been covered before in comments sections here — and with reference to the same commenter.
Neo, I’m no one to tutor you on how to conduct a blog, that’s for sure. I can only reiterate that “right now I can no longer do this” — recommend the reader comments to others. But here, finally, is my eventual point . . .
I believe that if this situation is left unchecked, the overall quality of the neo-neocon blog diminishes. It’s not just M J R, too lazy to scroll down, but the high quality of the blog itself that suffers. I think that would be a *major* shame.
I *urge* you to impose some sort of control on the proportion of column-inches hogged by any one commenter. Please, for the sake of the high quality of this marvelous forum to which you are unselfishly treating us.
Your faithful friend,
M J R
neo,
I’ve mentioned these books before on the same topic, but for the sake of others who haven’t heard of them, they are filled with “data” which the lefty’s so love:
David Lublin, “The Republican South”
Byron E. Shafer & Richard Johnston, “The End of Southern Exceptionalism”
As for black and Asian racism, I am not aware of any studies on Asian racism (and let me tell you, it is very real, particularly among the Chinese), but there are actually are some on black racism.
The most well-known that I can think of is Paul Sniderman and Thomas Piazza’s “Black Pride and Black Prejudice.” I like Sniderman, he’s an old-school liberal (who came to oppose affirmative action) who isn’t afraid to “go there” on certain topics. His book on multiculturalism in Holland is a good example of that.
Still, the Sniderman and Piazza book doesn’t quite go far enough, I think.
In any case, the new line in the poly sci community on black racism is as follows: “We admit that black’s are, in the strict terms of their expressed views, quite racist, prejudicial, and authoritarian in many of the political preferences” – by “authoritarian” they are referring to their socially conservative views, of course – “but we also know that authoritarianism tends to be adopted by groups who feel threatened. So white racism is still the explanation for black authoritarianism and racism.”
It’s sad to say but it really does no good to get the left to admit facts. As certain commenters like to point out here, it’s the narrative they spin around the facts (if we get them to admit facts) that is the problem.
For some reason, or some bevy of reasons, we the people find the structure and quasi-logic of that narrative compelling. I tend to view it, at the bedrock, root-level as the difference between people who seek emotional validation from politics and those who don’t. And – again, for some reason – we today tend to find a certain style of emotionalism validating.
That style is bathetic and pathetic, and I’m tempted to say that Nietzsche got this one big thing smashingly right: it’s a kind of mutant offspring of the Christian ethos feeding on its father. Love, pity, charity, grace, providence – all of these have their secular “emotionalist” mutations, and so we’re like Christians without Christianity.
Strange days – the Owl of Minerva is soaring.
I’ve been spending more time on Politico, arguing with liberals in real time. It’s as close to “having liberal friends” as I’m likely to get for a while.
interesting point as that is what often happens with real liberal friends… that is, not much else but argue and have them make snarky points and so on.
a friend i have named joe is a dyed in the wool communist, and for 15 years i heard him spout on and on, and not once did he ever care or know that i was not a white middle class suburban american, but a inner city slum child of refugees of stalin and hitler
recently i blew up telling him he knows NOTHING of what he is talking about. of course he said something to the effect of, that war happened 70 years ago, get over it, to whit i said, your following an ideology that occured 100 plus years before that and has led to the tortured murder of over 200 million innocent people, i wish you would get over it.
so yeah… not much different real or ephemeral on a website, is it?
I peg it as a mechanism for absolving themselves and their party of guilt.
actually given their ignorance and lack of actual knowlege, without hate, what woudl they have? hate hides their introspection. keeps them from questioning if they are right or wrong… while they are occupied in their zealous religious replacing ideas, they are not examining anything that means anything. they are the ultimate crib note kids – their whole life is living crib notes and copying the next person over from them, but only if they lie and create an image that sounds good. ie. they shop for their beliefs the way women shop for a new and improved tide soap.. new and im proved 50 times since 1940..
the final improvement is always, wait for it, blue dots
its a comedy skit in the making… i imagine an ad exec somewhere that gets fired and hired on the idea that we just add blue dots. worked for certs, tide, and tons of other products. just add blue dots…
Your faithful friend,
M J R passive agressive git…
nice to pose as a friend and like the dear leader obama talk for evryone and represent everyone. eh?…
i know, your just like the libs in which you cant tolerate someone different and less perfect than you…
handicapped people have to be put out of your misery
handicapped people should ahve no voice unless they meet your standards…
one of the key parts of aspergers is that we talk too much about what we are interested in…
People with Asperger’s tend to give monologues about their obsessions, which can be problematic socially. It’s hard to get a date after you’ve just told a girl all the subway stops in North America.
by the way… i may talk a lot, but i can do amazing things that you cant do… or will EVER do… preciesely because the things you dont like, give me super abilities in other areas.. (please show them neo)
People with Asperger’s, who are more likely to be male than female, generally have normal or above-average intelligence, but their limited social skills, poor communication, repetitive behaviors and intense interests make them difficult to interact with. Symptoms of Asperger’s overlap to some degree with those of autism but are generally less severe.
I am one of the “lucky” ones as i am not all that much off… (you could not tell usually – which makes people nastier, and more mean than they would be to a helpless crippled rain man type)
and what makes me lucky? i have savant skills that come with it. ergo my artwork, being signed to a top photography agency on the spot, systems, math, and more
Savant skills, while not universally present in Asperger’s persons, are very common, and generally include prodigious memory. When they do occur, in my experience, those special abilities in Asperger’s tend to involve numbers, mathematics, mechanical and spatial skills. Many are drawn to science, inventions, complex machines and particularly, now, computers. Some such skills lead to PhDs in mathematics or other sciences and a goodly number of Asperger persons are gainfully, and highly successfully, employed in computer or related industries because of the natural affinity of Asperger persons to organization, numbers and codes. Steven Silverman examines the concentration and increasing numbers of Asperger’s and Autistic persons in the Silicon Valley in an in-depth article on this phenomenon in the magazine Wired, in the December 2001 issue. That article points up the natural affinity of high functioning autistic persons for computer and related occupations, and examines genetic and environmental reasons why there might be such a startling increase of Autism and Asperger’s disorders as has been reported in California generally, and in the Silicon Valley specifically.…

And that somehow makes up for the laziness of not capitalizing your own sentences? Is the handicap supposed to be at fault for that too, Art?
You want to change the world, how about you change yourself or your fellows around you talking Commie talk first.
Unlike those you met in your real life, Art, some of us here have far greater genius and savant skills than you. We are thus, neither above you talking down to you nor are we village idiots looking up to you.
I already explained the issue with autism and the degradation that goes with max minus abilities like savant or genius level skills. But unlike you, I don’t have to quote somebody else on the matter, I merely have to recall my own thoughts. Original thought doesn’t come from reading books and copying their words and ideas.
As I mentioned before, people with autism can’t take a hint. They can’t deal with emotional or subtle clues, certainly not in as low a bandwidth format as writing. It’s either foreign to them or they link it to negative experiences in their past. Meanwhile, victimhood is the crutch upon which they rely to change the world.
Yarmarskar, you can’t cure autism and its verbal quirks by being a bully and hurting people. You can’t cure OCD that way either, even though you may think that having it is a choice and if they just stopped they would be happier.
Why aren’t you working in research telling such people to do what you say and their cured?
I went to arts link and it starts off with:
Darold Treffert, M.D. is considered one of the foremost experts on savantism in the world. Dr. Treffert has published two books on savant syndrome: “Extraordinary People: Understanding Savant Syndrome” in 2006 and “Islands of Genius: The Bountiful Mind of the Autistic, Acquired and Sudden Savant” in 2010
Why not call Dr Treffert and tell him your cure?
If you want to talk to the doctor, and give him your ideas, his bio is at the end of the page with an email address. why not share the discourse with him and see what he says?
Maybe art thought you would listen to the foremost expert who devoted his life to it, and not consider yourself more than that?
After all, it’s obvious that anything he would say or copy is instantly negated by your hate and ignored even when he is quoting others who are more expert than he is (or she?).
The article at the link is interesting
The underlying argument is that: To not become a self-abnegating collectivist, is in itself to be a de facto racist.
To prefer your own children, or to work preserve your own life or good, rather than to actively sacrifice for another’s – perhaps even antithetical – good, is considered as prima facie evidence of your racism.
This does not however, as the dashed proviso shows, imply that the left asserts that the concept of “good” is fundamentally distributive across the political population as a whole, or refers to some objective or universally trans-personal state of affairs.
The left actually seems to have quietly [first in theory then in “science”] accepted some some form of Human Biodiversity premise: leading to a principle wherein the good of some is explicitly recognized as not necessarily being the (same) good of others. In fact both the Marxist “From each, to each” principle, and the claim that the “essence” of man was to be found in, or in his place within, his mode of production, as well as modern relativism now, implies this logical asymmetry. And with it an intellectual acceptance of the diversity of the form and substance of the good, as a general interpretive principle.
The unsolvable social and interpersonal reciprocity problem is the result.
So, the real issue is not who now exists and how justice is to be achieved (since “justices” like mileage appear to differ with the genetic vehicle), but who and what shall eventually remain of the human species and the “social reproduction system” so that justice may be perfectly realized – after the leftists have completely had their way.
And frankly they seem to be making few bones about this particular point anymore.
To be then, a self-directing self is to be a racist. The so-called “racists” must be, following Rorty’s imagery, systematically and progressively (no pun intended) deprived of their present social and legal standing to have and to keep both their social standing and their access to gaining exchange value, through politically progressive managerial acts and social pressures. The conservative or libertarian human sub-type must eventually be eliminated or broken in order to, as progressives say, “gain the world that we dream”.
The progressive therefore will use the agency of politics to eliminate certain human subtypes in the name of eliminating the horrible notion that there are human sub-types.
Once we are all just part of one giant amoeba reproducing itself as part of the “inorganic body”, then bliss and the end of history will certainly ensue.
“Libertarianism has historically rejected the idea that the needs of one person impose a moral duty upon others …”
http://www.plosone.org/article/info:doi/10.1371/journal.pone.0042366
(By the way, the article cited does not advance the progressive political aim I described above, it simply shows that the principle of inherently divergent “needs” and desires is becoming more explicitly recognized, argued, and theoretically grounded among progressives, some of whom may only have previously entertained these notions as philosophical premisses lying suppressed beneath the rhetoric of differing abilities, and the maxim ” From each according to his abilities … “)
To MJR and Artfldgr:
I’ve written before that I don’t want the comments section to feature feuds between commenters of a personal nature.
MJR’s concerns have been voiced by many in the past, and the way I deal with overlong posts and/or too many posts by one commenter, whoever it might be, is to edit for length and/or to delete some. However, some days I am more busy with non-blog life and I am away from my computer for very long periods of time. I am especially busy right now, have been for the past few days, and will be off and on, off and on, for the next couple of weeks. So there have been intermittent stretches of time when I can’t do the monitoring I usually do. Most of the time, though, I am able to do it and continue to do it.
The reason is that the flow of the comments section is a part of what makes a blog readable for people.
I have had many back and forth discussions in the comments section about a number of commenters, and Artfldgr is one of them because his comments are sometimes objected to by other commenters (mainly in terms of length). My solution has been to edit for length (which is neither difficult to do nor especially time-consuming), with the aforementioned limitations when my time and attention are elsewhere. I continue to feel that Artfldgr has a unique and interesting perspective as well as access to a lot of information which some people may find relevant and/or interesting. Therefore his contributions here, while controversial and not always containing thoughts with which I agree, have some value, IMHO.
So my solution is to continue to edit for length and for redundancy any commenter who I believe exceeds the limits of what is conducive to a good flow in the comments section. In general I tend to err somewhat on the side of generosity. It is a judgment call re balance, and naturally I don’t always achieve it.
I request that everyone refrain from name-calling and insulting each other egregiously, realizing of course that we’re not all going to hold hands and sing kumbaya.
kolnai:
Thanks for the book suggestions. Sound fascinating!
Neo . . .
Thanks for your patient and gracious response. Please know that I appreciate that you indeed live a “non-blog life”, and I certainly appreciate all that you do here in your blog-life.
Take care,
M J R
In one of my ventures, I work in a business that is completely color-blind and open to anyone. The only criteria is being able to do the job, and that ipso-facto requires a brain, hard work, tenacity, responsibility, etc.
It is a total meritocracy in the sense that the only thing you have to be able to do is the job, and if you can do it that is all that matters, period, end of story. Everyone who can do the job respects and admires the others who can do it because they know it is a tough job.
There are at that place every day: white men, white women, black men, black women, Indian man, an Indian woman, people from all parts of Russia and Ukraine and the various “stans, Muslims from assorted areas from Egypt to Africa to Turkey, etc, at least one Jewish worker, several from the continent of Africa, from the Caribbean Islands, from Mexico and other South American countries. Practically every so-called “race” and so-called “ethnicity” is represented there.
Though everyone there is best served by free markets and lower taxes and nearly everything Republican, the majority probably vote along the expected lines.
The power of propaganda and peer pressure and group pressure is huge. Simply huge.
The end.
Any post beyond 50 lines is like a poem of similar length, filled with pretentious blather and combustible gas.
I just scroll through posts that are “too long.”
I have a feeling I’m missing something from Art’s posts, but I can’t make it through them.
Art, tighten that shit up, if you can.
Life is unfair. People are ignorant (including myself). Life goes on.
Tim Scott is the name to throw in the faces of the Dems who say Southern Republicans are racist. He won his primary for Senator with 90% of the vote.
http://www.tpnn.com/2014/06/11/senator-tim-scott-wins-huge-victory-in-primary-left-goes-on-the-attack/
His story should be an inspiration to all Americans.
