Michelle Obama’s Mirror thinks that Madonna… — 23 Comments

  1. Or like Sharon Stone at a roundup. The fat chick she’s singing with looks like a woman in our document-control pool. I don’t know her name either.
well that’s about it for my pointless contribution.

  2. I guess the bottom line is everyone is going to get old and there is not a damn thing we can do about it.

  3. I think you nailed it Neo. Mae it is.

I think I was thrown off because Marlene was supposedly bi-sexual like our material girl, where as Mae – well, let’s just say she strikes me as 100% a man’s woman.

  4. She looks like a washed up old drunk cowboy (yes a man) singer from the sixties. They were puffy and pink looking from alcoholism too but they didn’t wear cheap garter-belts at least not on the outside of the their clothing anyway.

  5. Neo, thanks for not posting pictures of Beyonce’s performance. Just caught the grinding/twerking clip at Michell’s Mirror link – I’ll take a fully dressed Madonna over that mess.

  6. Hey, Madonna’s still got it since so many blogs are STILL talking about her. Isn’t that want she really wants anyway?

  7. Lizzy, someone sent me a picture of that Madonna outfit juxtaposed with the Quaker Oatmeal Man. 😉

  8. Maria Riva, Dietrich’s daughter, wrote a book about her mother in 1991. I read some of the book and remember just two things from it: 1) Dietrich early on did her own homemade facelift by sticking pins in the sides of her face close to the hairline and fastening strings to them and then tied those strings behind her ears, 2) she had sex with just about anyone who asked, but never liked sex.

Riva talked a bit about it with Larry King in 2003:

KING: Did your mother love any of these lovers?

RIVA: Yes. When she was with them, she loved them. My mother hated sex and lived in romance.

KING: Break that down for me.

RIVA: I’ll break that down for you.

    KING: She hated sex?

RIVA: You’re a good American man. Yes.

    KING: She hated sex?

    RIVA: Yes.

KING: But she would perform it a lot with a lot of people.

RIVA: Well, when she had to. She always said, You have to keep them happy.

  9. Madonna is certainly aging in a manner more similar to Dietrich than to Mae West. Mae West was always quite buxom and only grew more so, I believe, as she got older. Dietrich and Madonna were both more slender to begin with and stayed thin their whole lives.

The similarities don’t end there, either. Both Madonna and Dietrich are (were) cabaret singers of somewhat limited musical skill with a penchant for the avant garde.

  10. Madonna made her “statement” in the ’80s with underwear as outwear, so I suppose the garter over top is “retro.”

  11. I am fascinated by what Ann posts at 11:24 AM, about Dietrich hating sex.

Madonna has always struck me as being bizarrely sexless (as well as not talented).

Just to get anecdotal here, I have never, ever heard any man express a sexual interest in Madonna. Paglia has (not personally but as a sexual phenomenon), yes … which might be further evidence (not of sappho, but of sexlessness).

Since the beginning, Madonna’s face has always looked like she was just released from a concentration camp and was still stunned by the experience.

If I thought she was satirizing modern society I might think her somewhat interesting, but apparently she is not.

  12. So it’s “cowgirl up!” then…

    %%%

Someone should’ve told her the show has moved on.

  13. Tonawanda:

I have always been puzzled by Madonna’s supposed appeal. She’s always seemed very masculine to me: harsh, cold.

  14. That’s interesting, Neo & Tonawanda. I’ve never found her sexually appealing but I thought it was just me–not my type, plus the personality she projected was unappealing. Now that you mention it, though, I’ve never heard anybody at all except pop culture journalists say they thought she was terribly sexy.

  15. Chinese Medicine has a saying. “After 40, a woman gets the face she deserves.”. When your supposed “Beauty” is your god, it dies hard and ugly. People like her……..what do they think about on their death bed?
