– Hillary Clinton at Andrews with the four coffins on September 14, 2012….
Money quote: “The Qatari assistance to fighters viewed as hostile by the United States demonstrates the Obama administration’s continuing struggles in dealing with the Arab Spring uprisings, as it tries to support popular protest movements while avoiding American military entanglements. Relying on surrogates allows the United States to keep its fingerprints off operations, but also means they may play out in ways that conflict with American interests.”
The elephant in the room that pundits are studiously ignoring is that current events justify Bush’s methods. That admission by the media would open the door to re-evaluating Bush’s record in a positive light that casts a contrasting critical shadow on Obama’s foreign policy course.
Bush merely applied the logical means necessary to achieve a liberal foreign policy, while Obama’s histrionic rejection of Bush’s methods (except for drone assassinations, which Obama has expanded dramatically) has invited failure in our foreign affairs. It seems the Obama administration believes that a cheaper hedging failure and defeat of America on the world stage is preferable to a deeply invested commitment to victory and success.
Did Congress authorize this sort of expenditure? If not, it’s Iran-Contra, no?
(Forgetting that Iran-Contra was basically a political fight that was made into a legal fight with the Congress infringing on the Executive’s right to carry out foreign affairs. It always amazes me, the Executive exists to carry out the laws that are passed and to deal with foreign affairs. We’ve managed to invert those powers and now we need Presidents with agendas, etc. I blame Teddy Roosevelt.)
Perhaps it was something Eric Holder and friends thought up in order to track terrorists back to their hideouts.
NYT Headline: “Operation ‘Fast Forward’ Backfires”. But I’m sure it’s got a better code name.
At least Darryl Issa will have something do do for the next 2 years besides watch his colleagues surrender to the minority.
Election is way over so its ok…
Anyway I hope it is just light arms and not anti aircraft stuff… If it is just guns; it can happen anytime you arm anyone (that some will end up in enemies hands).
This is a story that is the beginning of a crawl back…
With Benghazigate in mind.
For, once the public is inured to weapons to islamists in Libya — for the cause…
Then it’s but a short hop to transship weapons to islamists in Turkey – on their way to jihad in Syria.
Certainly, that transposition was made between the ears of the President when he okay’d all this.
I’m reminded of Zardoz spewing small arms to the proles.
In this distopia, frightfully bored elites flit about like Greek gods, while the proles are encouraged to scourge themselves with fratricidal small-arms warfare.
It may have been inspirational to the Choomster in Chief.
Recently, Obama has been re-elected for a 2nd term by an illiterate society and he is ready to continue his lies of less taxes while he raises them. He gives speeches of peace and love in the world while he promotes wars as he did in Egypt, Libya and Syria. He plans his next war is with Iran as he fires or demotes his generals who get in the way.
Pravda
O’bomber even keeps the war going along the Mexican border with projects like “fast and furious” and there is still no sign of ending it. He is a Communist without question promoting the Communist Manifesto without calling it so. How shrewd he is in America. His cult of personality mesmerizes those who cannot go beyond their ignorance. They will continue to follow him like those fools who still praise Lenin and Stalin in Russia. Obama’s fools and Stalin’s fools share the same drink of illusion.

at least that’s whats written and more in the opinion section…
We have a chance to watch things in action this time.
basically they claim a huge section of sea is theirs and in so doing take nearly all the ocean of the philipines, and big chunks of vietnams, and brunei, and indonesia…
this after taking possession of some islands that technically belong to the Japanese… (i brought this stuff up a while ago when the island game was written up in an article).
in so doing, they grab and seize some of the most fertile underwater oilfields in the area…
if nothing stops this, will Taiwan be next?
Half of all global shipping passes through the South China Sea en route to its final destination; the sea floor holds as many as 130 billion barrels of oil; and the sea possesses substantial fishery reserves.
and the american left says we go to war for oil?
China hopes to establish a buffer in the region to protect against possible U.S. containment efforts and the United States hopes to deny China the ability to establish a new hegemonic order in the region, diluting or altering the structure and influence of Western-led norms like the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) and institutions like the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World
Bank.
China has claimed this was hers since 1949
China has used open military force twice to enforce these claims, once in 1974 when it seized the Crescent island group in the Paracels, and once in 1988 when it seized Johnson Reef in the Spratlys
Assassin’s Mace – Shashou Jian
“Shashou Jian” was a club with which the “assassin” incapacitated his enemy, suddenly and totally, instead of fighting him according to “the rules.”
The PLA refers to its anti-access strategy as its ‘Assassin’s Mace’ concept. Under this strategy, China hopes to impose high costs on the United States at the outset of any war contingency. The strategy assumes that U.S. morale would precipitously decline as a result of these early losses and the United States would not be willing to engage in a long-run conflict, where it retains a strategic advantage
from national review:
Over the last four years, the combat strength of the U.S. Navy has been degraded to an extraordinary degree.
successive chiefs of naval operations have testified before Congress that the minimum number of vessels needed to carry out current missions is 313. The fleet currently consists of 285 ships, the lowest number since before America entered World War I.
The U.S. Pacific Command has long stated that it requires between 16 and 18 attack submarines to fulfill operational requirements; the Navy can currently provide only 10 at any given time. This comes as the Chinese Navy has begun to outnumber the U.S. Navy’s submarine force in the Pacific, playing directly into Beijing’s “anti-access, area-denial” strategy for limiting America’s freedom of movement in the region.
the president underfunded the Navy’s maintenance budget by $800 million this year. It is no surprise that more than 20 percent of the fleet failed its annual inspection in 2011, a sizeable increase over previous years. Obama has also slashed funding for research and development, failed to develop adequate replacement platforms for aging ship classes, and ignored our Marine Corps’s requirement for 39 amphibious ships, which is particularly important given the vaunted “pivot to Asia” the President has initiated but refused to adequately resource.
“… which is particularly important given the vaunted “pivot to Asia” the President has initiated but refused to adequately resource.”
The pivot is towards Main Street America. BHO is set upon becoming Fidel.
Musta been BUSH!!!!11!!!
Right you are — no surprise there! But then most of Obama’s sheep never believed we even had boots on the ground in Libya. (Even as we still hadn’t lifted a finger to help the poor Syrians being murdered, raped, and tortured by their own President).
(Never mind that Obama did zip for the Iranian Green Movement either…)
I absolutely shudder to think of what else has been covered up by Obama & Co. — whether in the name of the election, or to enhance his “legacy.” A more corrupt bunch of sleazy political operatives I can’t imagine! My stomach churns at the thought of it!
(Meantime, everyone see all the discontent among all those New Yorker Sandy victimes (most, if not all, of whom voted for him) who finally realize Obama came by their neighborhoods 5 days pre-election for a great photo op, and now could care less about any one of them? ) Another group duped.
I just get more depressed everyday. The crap he pulled in campaign (the vicious outright lies about Romney, and Republicans, the Benghazi coverup — they pulled that one off much to my disgust; can’t forget Fast and Furious; claiming to have defeated Al Queda and terrorism by O killing Obama (never, ever has he mentioned the seals who really did the deed); now the outright lying to all of us re: “Fiscal Cliff”& his nerve (audaciousness?) to DOUBLE the amount of revenues he wants — for a new stimulous, yet! What’s 16.4 trillion in federal debt. He’s preparing to outdo the spending in first term). Oh, and can’t forget his little trick last wk. of sending Geithner out to suggest that Congress essentially yield to Obama the “power of the purse” by leaving debt ceiling up to him alone! I don’t know…between such grabs for power, his use of “executive order,” his czars, his plans to circumvent Congress on climate change and energy legislation by regulations (edicts) issued by boards….he doesn’t seem all that different from Morsi in Egypt…. and the MSM doesn’t bat an eye, and none of us feel we can protest like all those brave Egyptians who saw the writing on the wall the minute Morsi issued his edict of complete and total power over his country. At least Obama’s not a member of Muslim Brotherhood. As far as I know. (tho’ he was clearly a Morsi supporter and MB sympathizer.)
All of the above NOT in the NYT…no, no surprise.
(Coming attractions: Obama & Putin now that Obama has all that “flexibility” he anticipated “after the election”
The man is SO dangerous and we have an electorate that is either ignorant, or just doesn’t care. Or very gullible, believing what he tells them at opportune moment to get their votes, even when his “plans” for next 4 yrs. consisted of exact same promises in 2008 — that went unfulfilled. Can I use the word stupid here?
Now more depressed.
A lot of people voted for Obama because of some sense of revenge, and now , with luck are discovering how bitter than dish is .
As far as the Sandy folks, well, votes for the empty A-2 got them.. exactly what they voted for
