It is symptomatic of the national condition of the United States that the worst humiliation ever suffered by it as a nation, and by a US president personally, passed almost without comment last week. I refer to the November 20 announcement at a summit meeting in Phnom Penh that 15 Asian nations, comprising half the world’s population, would form a Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership excluding the United States.
President Barack Obama attended the summit to sell a US-based Trans-Pacific Partnership excluding China. He didn’t. The American led-partnership became a party to which no-one came.
I think that “the worst humiliation ever” is hyperbole, but it’s certainly a bad humiliation. It seems that every time Obama personally attends one of these things, the result is rejection.

Silver lining time . . . much of the world sees straight through this callow pretender, and is not impressed in the least by His Magnificent Presence. If only the American electorate was as clued in.

I once read that turkeys settle squabbles by showing their throats as a sign of conciliation. That works fine with other turkeys, but when done with another species (which I don’t recall), that species fatally pecks the turkeys’ throats out.
That may be a metaphor for the Obama Presidency. American turkeys — i.e., liberals – defer to blacks and pretend that everything they do is wonderful, regardless of the actual merits. Foreigners, and particularly Asians, in my experience take pretty much the opposite tack. Even Europeans, who mouth the appropriate platitudes at the appropriate times, are in fact less than enamored of the brothers.
Thus Obama’s race, while an asset here, is probably a liability of various magnitudes overseas, especially in China and Japan. And let’s face it, without race, what does Obama have?
Redistributive change is not a solution. It is a stop-gap measure proposed by the desperate, incompetent, or corrupt.
His several efforts at regime changes throughout the Middle East and Africa probably did not win him any admirers either.
He is a leader of a kind not suitable to lead.
I haven’t thought of it before, but Occam’s comment seems correct: Obama has developed an effective approach with US liberals, butone that falls flat elsewhere, particularly among Asians who lack our guilt about slavery and past racism.
LBJ was great at pushing legislation through Congress, but he had no clue how to deal with North Vietnamese communists.
A tactic that works great against one foe may fail badly against another.

Remember Copenhagen where he flew in on AF1 with Oprah to win the Olympics for Chicago. And later in Copenhagen when he so impressed the world leaders at a climate conference that they made an effort to avoid him.
But
he considers himself one of the best foreign policy Presidents ever with the possible exception of Johnson, F.D.R., and Lincoln (none who were outstanding in foreign policy but I must be wrong because he knows everything).
The list of screw ups and negatives with this guy is endless. The good news is that he is not dull. No one really knows what will happen to the economy after Jan. 1; it will be an adventure. And no one really knows how long it will take for the Islamists to kill off the liberals in Syria once Assad is gone (although we know that they will do so with American arms supplied through Saudi Arabia); ergo we can make bets on how long it will take. As a President Obama is a category by himself, category name: entertainment, subcategory: slapstick tragicomedy.
Off subject: there was a girl I knew who was in abusive relationship. Her many friends offered to protect her from her abuser and she did leave him. After a very short while she went back to him, this time none of her friends offered to help her. Is it my imagination but am I seeing the same thing in America. We tried to alert the public to the Obama threat, were ignored, and now we really don’t want to waste time on a country apparently happy in its self-destructive stupidity.

No further proof of his inexperience, naivete, and narcissism is needed. European politicians live for the opportunity to wrongfoot American Presidents, because it’s a tried and true vote winner. Conversely, they abhor anything that makes it look as though they’re caving to American pressure.
So Barry’s showing up to twist Europeans’ arms for Chicago absolutely guaranteed that Chicago would not get it, even if Chicago had been their first choice. Does no one in the State Department know anything at all about Europe, or did Barry ignore or fail to solicit their advice?

I mean, if the stories about blocking US drilling in the same areas we funded other countries to drill in are true on all levels (vs. being a stupid mistake / crossed communications issue) then making the US a bit less wealthy is probably a goal. Cant fund US imperialism if your poor.

Sort of but your leaving out that he blames everything going wrong on those resisting. That plays into it too. I don’t want the country to hit the rocks to prove I’m right or to try to cause ‘change’ when people clue in… I just don’t see why I should bang my head on the wall and get blamed for everything when if I sit back and wait the general public might get tired of this bs and give us another try… that or we all flee to Texas to save our lives…

Very good observations. While Americans have had “racial healing” on the minds as their reason for voting for the African-American Marxist–and gotten nothing but racial slaps in the face for it, beginning with the remark by Eric “Nation of Cowards” Holder–the outside world looks at the face of the United States of America and thinks Africans and their mentality are now what shapes the political agenda of the U.S.
It’s not politically incorrect and it isn’t even fair–I for one know just slightly less than half of Americans have anything to do with his Marxist, Muslim-sympathizing frame of mind–but that’s the perception for outsiders everywhere. And so, to a large portion of the world not given to manipulation through racial guilt, many of them in fact harboring sentiments that would do the 1930s proud, this man at the presidency is a slave (Arabic abed) risen to the throne, and a slave he will remain in their eyes, in that view of theirs that is truly racist and not so-called “racist” as in cheapened Marxist parlance, emptied of all meaning through irrelevant overuse.

this is probably a dead thread, but … I was thinking just this yesterday, that America as she was is the great IDEA we hold in our hearts of being a free people under God.
Thus we do, in fact, carry her in our hearts. She’s not about real estate and dollars as the heartless enemy proclaims.
