Ahmadinejad at the UN
Despite the title, I’m not going to spend much time on Ahmadinejad’s speech. It’s the usual stuff.
I am happy to report, however, that the Obama administration is giving the right signals on this particular occasion, at least. The US delegation is boycotting the speech, and has issued the following statement (I know; words are cheap), which can’t be called mealy-mouthed:
Over the past couple of days, we’ve seen Mr. Ahmadinejad once again use his trip to the U.N. not to address the legitimate aspirations of the Iranian people but to instead spout paranoid theories and repulsive slurs against Israel.
So, what else is new? Not much.
With Ahmadinejad in New York, it is a perfect opportunity for the Obama administration to deflect attention away from the miserable failure of its middle east policy (and from Obama’s own speech yesterday to the U.N. which contained that very odd line about the future not belonging to those who insult the prophet of Islam) by making a sternly-worded statement which is less mealy-mouthed than usual. Got it.
Kurt: yes, the words are not important (considering all the other damage that’s been done), except that at least they’re being said. I’m actually surprised that the administration has even bothered to do that.
hmm, I see what you’re saying Neo given how childish/idiotic/unprofessional/out-of-touch the Obama administration has been. And I do give you credit for trying to be upbeat about this.
However, the truth be told, Obama has said nothing – this is the US’s UN delegation’s statement, no? Not Obama’s statement. And it is really not much different from past actions by the US when Ahmadinejad has spoken before at the UN.
So, once again, Obama is NOT leading – others are doing the work for him.
This reminds me of a scene from the movie “Made in Dagenham” where the husband is trying to tell his wife how great he is because he doesn’t beat her, doesn’t spend all his money on booze, doesn’t leave her and the kids starving, etc. Her response is that he doesn’t deserve any medals for that because that is what he SHOULD be doing.
So, sorry, I can’t give Obama any credit for this – because it is what they SHOULD be doing anyway!
Since A-Jad does this every year, I’m surprised it took them a few days to come to this conclusion.
REPORT: ROCKET FIRED FROM SYRIA LANDS IN ISRAEL…
Neo,
This is the sickest but most plausible explanation of Obama failing to meet with world leaders

KT McFarland nailed it.
You all might enjoy the post Ace of Spades has up tonight about the Iranian expats catching Mamoud’s spokesman in the streets of Manhattan — they surrounded him, screamed protests, spat on him, and kicked him in the fanny.
The cops had to escort the guy away as the crowd screamed, “Terrorista!” over and over.
Libya’s president told an incredulous Ann Curry that the attack in Benghazi was definitely a terrorist attack, and that it had absolutely nothing to do with a video. She couldn’t process the information, and visibly struggled.
She protested, ‘But the PRESIDENT said it wasn’t a terror attack — what makes you so sure” [this, after he told her about the heavy weapons involved, expertly wielded.]
“President Obama and Mrs. Clinton have their own word for it,” he replied; “and we have ours.”
Since this was on Matted Lour’s “Today” show, here’s hoping a shipload of middle-American viewers saw it. It sure made Hussein look craven/complicit.
