Want to buy an island in the Bronx?
With views, yet?
This guy’s got one to sell you:
The property is to be sold starting at 1 p.m. Sunday by Alex Lyon & Son, which announced the sale with this pitch: “Build your dream home with 360 degree panoramic view of the water or pursue a zone change and create an opportunity for a sound commercial investment.”
Just a few tiny problems, but nothing a little TLC couldn’t fix: it’s a pile of rocks that floods often, and there’s “no water, waste or electrical services or even a dock.”
And then there’s the little matter of the name: Rat Island. No real rats, though; apparently even they won’t live there.
Owner Red Brennan suggests that any interested buyers should consider building a house on stilts. Oh, and his cousin Sam’s got a bridge in Brooklyn…
The bridge sounds like a good deal.
Wanna buy an island in Long Island Sound?
The gummint is considering a sale of Plum Island, NY for maybe $30-40 mill but first is drawing up its own environmental impact statement for biohazard remediation. I guess that would fall to a buyer to remedy, though the gummint is the polluter, and would presumably determine if the remediation of its pollution was correctly and adequately done.
Even though the decision to move the ag. biohazard lab to a new location in KS at an estimated $650 mill construction was made some time ago, the gummint was doing new construction at Plum Island in 2010. That’s all very stimulating.
See the website of Rep. Bishop (R-NY) for some more. Sorry, it’s my lazy afternoon.
If I had a few million to tchrow around, I’d but it buy it and secede from the City and open up a smokers bar with canoe water taxi. And we’d have unlimited salt and French Fries.
Da Bronx. No other place with a Da before it’s name.
This reminds me of the Parsley Island flareup between Spain and Morocco. The island was rocky and populated by some goats. Colin Powell had to intervene to prevent an escalation of the situation.
