Are these people grownups?
Bicker, bicker, bicker. Obama’s speech vs. the Republican candidates’ debates: doesn’t this sort of thing seem rather juvenile? And in fact, doesn’t the entire tenor of DC seem to have grown not only more nasty but more junior high?
Is it something generational? Or am I just becoming as old curmudgeon?
As far as the the president’s speech and the debate go, I can’t imagine that a whole lot of people will be watching either of them. But the Republican debate does have some added novelty for people who are unfamiliar with Rick Perry and who want to see just what variety of dodo-head he might be. As for Obama’s speeches, the love has worn quite thin these days for actually watching them; big yawn. Won’t most people who are interested in knowing what he has to say just read the papers or listen to the summaries on cable news?
I think it’s a pretty big deal that Obama tried to step on the presidential debate. Especially in light of some of Carney’s comments yesterday, which sounded pretty combative. The thing I am having a hard time with is deciding whether Obama is an evil genius, or a complete moron. In the former he sets the debate time, waits for the R’s to go nuts, then changes it so he looks reasonable. In the latter he picks a time for his speech thinking he could compete with the R’s, and then ends up backing down and looking even less effective and presidential. Bachman made a good point too. Is he trying to have the speech during the debate to upstage Republicans, or in the hope that people will watch the debate and not his speech. Then he can throw his lame proposals out there while no one is listening.

How about “evil moron?”
I doubt that he was trying to avoid viewers for his speech. He’s a galloping narcissist, and believes he can fix all problems with his mellifluous speechifying. He’s probably thinking, “Why deprive the masses of My Presence? They’re probably pining for another speech from Me.”
Is there a third possibility, that he didn’t connect the original time with the Republican debates? (Nah; politicos probably live and breathe this stuff.) Still, I could easily imagine him some December 7th quacking about our long and deep friendship with Japan, without making the connection.
My guess: amateur hour at the WH. This was an updated version of drawing mustaches on the flyer photos of an opponent for the middle school presidency.
This is but a small harbinger of an exceedingly nasty campaign, methinks.
The RNC has forced Obama to compete with the opening game of the NFL season on Thursday night. Guess who’s going to win that one.
Bicker? Obama scheduled his event on top of a long scheduled Republican event. He’s the aggressor. It’s like he stepped on your toe and when you say ouch he says you are being juvenile.
Washington has become more nasty because the stakes are getting bigger. There are real differences and the Democrats are leading us to a European socialist model which has already failed. Obamacare is the whole camel in the tent. Look at the events in Wisconsin to see what happens when it’s crunch time for the left. It gets nasty.
Occam, I just have an incredibly difficult time thinking that they are so clueless and stupid that they didn’t know when the debate was, and understand the ramifications. I can’t believe the unforced errors they consistently make.
Neo, the CBC is barn-storming the nation calling tea partiers Racist and saying that they want to lynch black people, and there is NO attempt out of the Democrat leadership to either apologize or control them.
If GOP congress-critters tried this on Black people they would be forced from office.
These people should be thrown out of office and into the libel courts. It is outrageous and unprecedented.
Bickering? Extreme hard left propaganda tactics.
Stop covering for the Left under some misguided notion of “even handedness”. It is a bad habit of yours. They are playing for keeps. Are you?
“And in fact, doesn’t the entire tenor of DC seem to have grown not only more nasty but more junior high?”
I think you’re giving them too much undeserved credit, 95% of what goes on in DC reminds me more of kindergarten spats and 5 year old prima donnas arguing over who is the real princess.
“Or am I just becoming as old curmudgeon?”
Isn’t everyone over 50 in the club? 😉

Tom, I agree; I was just putting that out there. Since politicking seems to consume this Administration’s attention 24/7, it’s nigh unto inconceivable that they were unaware of the political ramifications of their decision.
“Requesting” the Speech to a Joint Session on Sept 7 was the emperor calling his subjects to heel, with the side benefit of effing with the GOP debate’s public visibility. The Boner was entirely correct in declining. Yielding would have been sheer cowardice. This served, perhaps (we’re dealing with Baraq, after all), to point out to Baraq that there are two other, co-equal, branches of the Gov’t that are more than his lapdogs.
Baraq the constitutional wiz needs such basic reminders; remember him talking down to the other branch, the SCOTUS?
He’s just agoing ahead on 9/8; I don’t yet know if the NFL caved.
It is unravelling for BHO, but it cannot happen fast enough for me. We already know his speech will be pure unadulterated BS and bluster. There will be no there there.
Obama revealed his juvenile qualities many times. Remember his giving the finger to Hillary? Remember when he made reference to Sarah Palin “putting lipstick on a pig”?
Obama is a jerk. Plus a black power hate whitey grifter.
There are no adults in the Obama administration.
High school politics, except played with trillions of cash and nuclear military force.

It even has a great line for obama:
“Do my a little favor will ya? The next time you’re gonna do anything, say anything, or buy anything, think it over very carefully. When you’re sure you’re right. Forget the whole thing.”
Yes.
My prediction:
Green Bay 32
Obama 3
Obama gets the 3 due to commercial breaks and TV time outs.
My sad experience is that people grow up only as much as they absolutely have to.
Democrats with the help of cultural marxism (political correctness) have had a lot of success in getting the average American to walk around on eggshells to be more easily fed socialist medicine. But in 2009 something happened. The Tea Party.
Everything democrats do, including this little attempt to be disrespectful of the GOP debate, is to get more Americans back to walking on those eggshells.
But their attempts are becoming ever more blatant and hungry people in a terrible economy just aren’t going to cower anymore.
This one is entirely on Obama’s shoulders. I’m sure he knew about the scheduled debate, and that this is Perry’s first appearance (his re-election team have been firing shots at Perry since before he officially entered the race). I imagine he expected he could throw his weight around and demand an audience with Congress.
Outside of this one speech, how many times has Obama demanded prime time for one of his speeches? How many speeches did he make in the last two months during the debt-ceiling debate? It seemed like it was almost daily. The man does nothing but make speeches, as if this is all there is to leadership.
Take care, Neo. Today’s NYT edit on the issue is headed, “Oh, Grow Up.” I only scan the NYT heads to see what the enemy is up to. You thought it “juvenile.”
Today’s job creation numbers (zero) make it clear where this president is taking us. Resistance is the proper response. Bad manners are the least of our worries.
If the US goes into hyperinflation, remember to use Soros’ trick and buy out of the currency and into precious metals or goods.
It is not junior high school (grades7-8-9) any more (so far as I know), it’s middle school (grades 6-7-8).
One year less developed. Middle school clique–that’s what they seem to be in the White House.
