Obama the great bamboozler
One of the most perverse things about Obama is that, when he’s trying to get tough with the opposition, what he says about them is often the best clue to what he’s actually doing, or planning to do.
Case in point—his latest declaration about the Republicans (video here):
…[T]hey’re betting on amnesia. That’s what they’re counting on. They’re counting on that you all forgot. They think that they can run the okey-doke on you. Bamboozle you.
Like many of Obama’s most revealing remarks, these were made at a Democratic fundraiser, this time in Atlanta. And the word “bamboozle” is an especially nice touch, harking back to a famous scene in Spike Lee’s film “Malcolm X,” a reference that would most likely be recognized by a great many people in his Atlanta audience.
I said the speech appears in the film; Malcolm X never actually said the words in real life. But since movies about history have largely become a substitute for history, these cinematic words may be more famous than any the historical figure of Malcolm X actually uttered. The movie context was a speech made by Malcolm in Harlem, on the subject of the white man. Rest assured that Obama (who has used these phrases quite a few times to describe his enemies) is aware of the racial code he’s employing, and what it means to many of the black people in his audience.

A long time ago, I explained the mathematical game theory pay off of the position they always take. In the final analysis, if your doing something (or not), its always favorable (to you) to promote the negative that can be done. in this way, if you are doing it, at worst your both equal. if your not, and they are (or believed to be by claim), then you have the high ground. etc.
the key to this is the qwerty effect where the first thing taking a position has the high ground and is hard to unseat. ie. they use the biology they deny exists against us. we believe it doesn’t exist, and so we stand there like idiots, unprotected.
in order to refute the false position, one has to bring it up, and by bringing it up, one reinforces the negative position. the new idea has an impossible time playing catch up, unless something holds back the dominant (by being first), idea.
this is why i tried to explain to you that your ideas and rationalizations theory is meaningless as the proper view to imagine to understand them is to imagine one trying to herd cattle who only respond to mental ideas, rationalizations, inducements, etc.
there is no individual standing before them only masses. there is a false individual relationship between YOU and they, but not they to you.
and so the people behind the red rope are looking out onto a sea of peoples. they see their own humanity as they stand apart. however they dont realize that THEY are the puppets. they are the interface between the ruling cool that sets the mental state and direction, and the masses out there who they agree and then move their force to compel.
this is why the arguments are couched to the elite and this key group the masses look up to, not the masses, who are incidental to the leadership the way that a private in the army is inconsequential as the leaders deal with the ‘social’ generals.

I was puzzled by Obama’s choice of the word “bamboozled” but now all becomes clear, just as a close inspection of various videos shows him giving his opponents the finger as he supposedly scratches his face (and usually the side of his face away from his target) with his middle finger.

This sort of projection is typical of all leftists. They scream about Republicans stealing elections, then blatantly Gregoire the Washington gubernatorial election (more votes cast than registered voters…hmmm), and Franken the Minnesota Senatorial one (no need to give automobile trunks the vote — they’ve got plenty already).
They howl about non-existent voter intimidation, but have no problem with armed thugs turning prospective voters away.

So, let’s see. Basically Harlem would be a model of civic-mindedness but for the white man, who forces Harlem’s residents to indulge in drugs, alcohol, and prostitution, much against their will. It’s not their fault! They’re utterly blameless! They’re helpless lambs who’ve been led astray!
Got it. I’m curious how someone holding such views would explain rap lyrics and black gangs murdering each other. Blaming others for those would take some serious intellectual gymnastics.

Another thing, your starting the meme early so it can get on the public’s nerves before the other side gets around to accusing them of doing what they claimed others did. Out-of-the-box thinking is called for here. When subjected to an unfair attack, the answer isn’t finding a fair defense; the answer is counterattack.
If I’m challenged to answer whether or not I’ve quit beating my wife, answering the question does me no good. Instead, attacking my questioner back — “funny you should ask. Weren’t YOU arrested for domestic violence a few years back?” — can turn the tables, particularly if I’ve done my homework about my questioner.
In this, we actually do have the advantage, because we know what President Obama has said and done since being in the public eye. As such, the response should be clear: “Mr. President, you were on record on the following dates making the following promises; on these later dates, you reneged on those promises, or claimed you had never made them. And then on August 2nd, YOU accused US of “counting on amnesia”. Isn’t that exactly what you’re doing, sir? Or are you assuming that we’re too stupid to look you up in Google?”
If the Republicans are smart — about which I have grave doubts — they’ll use Mr. Obama’s own words, pro and con, back to back… and play them 24/7. This can then influence any local race, simply by juxtaposing Obama’s clips with one of the local candidate, pledging support for Obama.
In fact, it ought to be enough for SOME candidates to use this approach… because the word will get out, whether it’s pushed by the RNC or not.
Obama’s skill at double-talk makes John “I actually voted for the $87 billion before I voted against it” Kerry look like a rank amateur. The key, for this November, will be to make this embarrassingly plain for all to see.

The Republican response to the absolute gall of Obama’s hypocrisy and the mathematical game theory to which Artfldgr refers is easy enough to master.
First expect it, being prepared is always the first step in an effective response.
Second, follow applicable principles in formulating a response, as principles allow for recognizing context and prevent details from confusing us.
First principle: acknowledge the point in a way that exploits the weakness inherent in a hypocritical, ‘gamesmanship’ attack.
Example:
“Yes, Pres. Obama let’s talk about what we are counting on. Let’s have an honest public discussion about what we are both betting on.
Republican’s are betting that the American people recognize the deficits that Democrats have unethically imposed upon the country, their children and future generations.
Republican’s are betting that the American people recognize the unconstitutional imposition of the individual health insurance mandate…
Republicans are betting that Americans have reached the conclusion that you are not serious about protecting our borders.
Republicans are betting that Americans realize that you aren’t getting the job done and that the “buck” still stops at your desk.
Republicans are counting on Americans still believing in giving someone a second chance when they earn it and that our honesty in admitting the economic mistakes we made prior to 2006, indicate a sincere desire to learn from those mistakes.
When shall you admit your mistakes? When will you stop blaming your predecessor? Democrats have controlled Congress since 2006, nearly 4 years and you’ve been in office for 19 months…yet you all have only made things worse.
Clearly, what Democrats are counting on is selective amnesia, the very thing you accuse others of, which is a classic example of hypocrisy.
Unfortunately for Democrats, the “jigs up” and it’s time for you to take responsibility for your actions and inability to do the job.
But whether you take responsibility or not, the American people are about to hold both you and your party accountable…”
This type of response will make Obama rue the day he brought the subject up because the appropriate counter-response always lies within an attack that obscures the truth.

But when the greatest orator of all time tells Democrats in a speech that, “They [Republicans] think they can run the okey-doke on you”, nobody cared that the great orarator uttered a sentence composed of complete gibberish.
Per Merriam-Webster’s online dictionary, the definition of okey-doke is: “used to express assent”.
I think we can all agree okey-doke is colloquial for “OK OK”. So the way Obama used it makes no sense. Just gibberish.
There’s even a double standard about how gibberish is covered by bloggers and journalists.

I’m just not sure what he expects to accomplish by firing up this particular audience. The vast majority of black voters have been in his corner since the beginning and they’ll stay there, come hell or high water. It’s the independents who realize they’ve been had and I don’t think these kind of speeches will help him woo those voters back (no matter how many times he makes a campaign appearance on The View).

The Republicans have so much ammunition to throw at the Democrats, in just Obama’s own words, that it’s an embarrassment of riches.
When voters are continually reminded of FL Gov. Crist embracing Obama, the Cornhusker kickback, Louisiana purchase and Stupak’s hypocritical betrayal, Pelosi’s inane clips, etc. etc. the Democrats will be lucky to retain any seats.
And the MSM can’t block ad campaigns.
Republicans need to mentally prepare for the predictable Democrat response; blaming Bush and cries of racism, etc.
If they prepare, their response will be effective and the mid-terms are going to be a political bloodbath for the Democrats.
Then, the real work will begin.

The pigs, which are used to the free corn, start to come through the gate to eat that free corn again.
You then slam the gate on them and catch the whole herd. Suddenly the wild pigs have lost their freedom. They run around and around inside the fence, but they are caught.

Actually, people often mix diesel with the corn- for some reason the pigs like that. And they build traps fully made-that can be moved around on a flat bed pickup- i have never heard of anyone building it one part at a time. Course, those traps dont always catch a whole herd. There are guys that buy the wild pigs after you catch them. I heard of one that was selling them in Europe or asia as “wild boar”. Wild pigs are a pestilence- tearing up gardens overnight. The danger of counterattack is twofold: voter fatigue at partisan squabbling (the “pox on both their houses” reaction lumps us in with the Dems, i.e., rounds us down) and coming off (or being made to appear to come off) as mean-spirited. The MSM can help with this last, of course.
I’d suggest a kind of reductio ad absurdum approach approach: exaggerating the charge to a ridiculous level or otherwise making its users into a laughing stock. For example, in response to Daniel’s “have you stopped beating your wife yet?,” you could reply, “Yes, I had to stop after she took all those boxing lessons. She’s got a wicked left jab-right cross combination now, so we just talk things out instead.”
Re the “amnesia” meme, we could say that Obama’s absolutely right. “Lots of people have amnesia and turn up for jobs they’d forgotten they’d lost in the previous two years. We need a Federal program to redirect these people back home. Twenty or thirty billion ought to suffice. Union jobs, of course. Maybe a couple of czars too.”
Ridicule is the key for us. The Dems generally and Obama in particular are notoriously thin-skinned about ridicule, probably because so much of their identity is tied up with being considered cool.

“The White House is not a vacation timeshare.”

On a lighter note, happy birthday, Barack! The sad thing is that it’s still more likely than not that he will be re-elected in 2012. And whether he’s out of office in January 2013 or January 2017, he’s still a relatively young guy, so we’ll all have to listen to Obama saying how great he was as President for years and years to come, no matter what happens.

indicate a certain level of anticipation and understanding, which if not at your exalted level, bears some credit for understanding the value of anticipation, does it not?
A different approach, based upon somewhat different premises than yours Artfldgr, may indicate a failure to appreciate the deeper layers of the ‘onion of leftism’ as you indicate or it may not.
But in any case, speaking condescendingly to others, regardless of how correct is counter-productive, if persuading others to pay attention to your views is your goal…but it’s an excellent method in alienating those whom you seek to reach.

I’ve noticed in radio interviews and such of Obama from a few years ago that his speech pattern sounded quite diferently. Theres definitely an evolution into a more wavering cadence that smacks of a black evangelical.
Artfldgr, you mean well; that’s clear. But your condescension — Geoffrey Britain was quite right — does not gain you readers. Nor do your attempts to insult people into action — when you yourself cannot be bothered to proofread your own spelling, grammar, punctuation, or capitalization.
(Normally we don’t raise that issue; you’ve explained before that this is very difficult for you. But your calls to arms ring very hollow indeed, when it’s clear that we are doing proofreading work that you’re not.)
There’s no question in my mind that you have a powerful (and important) message to deliver. But that message will fall on deaf ears if it is rambling, unproofread, and insulting to boot. (Neoneocon has occasionally done you the favor of condensing your messages, and has probably gotten you more readers thereby. But she shouldn’t have to do this for you.)
You can insist on writing the way you like to write, and bemoan the fact the hardly anybody listens to you. Or you can take the trouble to organize your thoughts and your words, express them simply (and uncondescendingly)… and then have people spend more time discussing your ideas, rather than the way you chose to express them. It’s your call.

Daniel in Brookline: Your and Geoffrey B’s observations regarding Artfldgr’s attitude and posts have been raised countless times by many over the past 2 to 3 years. I for one refuse to do the editing and organizing that he refuses to do. To hell with that. Of course, the trend is that after the emergence of a slew of complaints he’ll tone down things and clean up his posts a little. But, within a few days he’ll be back to his usual stuff.
He lost me as a reader a long time ago. It’s just very easy to scroll over his too long, disorganized, unedited rambles. And, I’m not missing a time by doing so.

I do wish Artfldgr well and appreciate his view, I simply disagree with some of his conclusions and object to the issues mentioned above.
