The NY 23 race: does Joe Biden really think… — 17 Comments

  1. And that is why it isn’t “party purity” to not support true RINO’s like Dede there. It is *not* party purity if she violates even the “big tent” ideas of Reagan (small govt, strong national defense, personal integrity) – even more true when they do not even give lip service to those ideas.

Party purity is when you drop middle of the road or soft conservatives, not drop liberals/leftist. Supporting them because they have an “R” after thier name is no different that saying you want the Cowboys to win and the Jets to loose every week – there is no rational reason to do so.

It weakens the party. First why vote for a lefty with an “R” when you can get the real thing, they are also constantly used to both as complaints (see you guys do this crap too) or for pressuring others into “compromise” (see these guys “get it” so everyone else needs to vote that way too). Secondly if they never vote with the party it doesn’t mean a pile of turds that they have an “R” after therr name with respect to getting legilation passed – indeed it hampers it by wasting one of our slots *and* given the dems an unlisted vote (now, were we in a 50/50 split then I may agree for chairmanships, but we are far from that). Finally it is also a waste of money – that 900+k could have went to an real honest to goodness conservative.

  2. Democrats are ones to talk. How is what Conservatives have done in this particular race any different than what the Libs did to Lieberman? Hypocrites.

  4. I’m left wondering if Hoffman’s improving poll numbers indicate:

    A) Obama is poison to anyone he campaigns for,

    B) Biden is poison to anyone he campaigns for,

    C) Scozzafava’s switching support, and thereby looking like a poor loser, is turning her supporters off and driving them to Hoffman instead of the (democrat) candidate she now endorses,

    D) Hoffman is becoming the local personification of what a “conservative” is supposed to be – and is thereby raking in support he would not otherwise have received since there were at least 2 left wingies in the race – but only 1 right wingie for the remainder of the conservative public to rally around.

    E) All of the above.

  5. Because there is really a lot of out side the box thinking in the democratic party right now… thats why they’re voting en mass to take over health care and destroy private insurance.

  6. They used to love to label GW Bush as “Orwellian”. Joe Lieberman anyone? Down the memory hole.

Like everything else liberals believe at the time they believe it, I think they actually close that space that includes Lieberman behind a shield that snaps open only when they need it, then snaps firmly shut when it’s inconvenient.

  7. I think it’s odd how Shepard Smith refuses to pronouce Scozzafava’s name correctly. He always says Scozzafaza with a certain gleem in his eye.

  8. That man is as dumb as a box of hammers. I am in Kandahar Afghanistan, trying like hell to avoid Biden because he is coming to “visit the troops”. I am trying to avoid him because a) he’s Joe Biden and b) we are working like hell trying to kill terrorist. I go to the head to do my business and as I am standing there, guess who walks in and stands next to me? Joe freakin’ Biden! And he
tries to make small talk! In my head the little voice goes “STFU will you”. Damn that was a long day.

  9. A Democrat hasn’t won NY-23 since 1859. But keep celebrating the small victories. Even when they aren’t really victories at all.

  10. Chris,

    Not “really victories at all”?

I am still not sure what the final tally will come to, and a democrat could certainly pull out a win – but IF democrats were sweeping these elections in NY, NJ, and VA, then we’d be hearing about how the GOP is toast.

As it is, democrats are left sniffing that these are insignificant events….

  11. Just another thought on the elections tonight.

Heard on the radio on the drive home this evening that “Health Care Reform is Dead” this year – that congress has elected (pun intended) to put it off for a while.

Wonder if these election results had anything to do with the change of heart over something they considered so urgent during the 2008 election cycle????
