Question about the blog
A few days ago I did a couple of more tweaks on the blog that – hopefully – may have ended that periodic “too many requests” glitch. So my first question is whether you’re had any problem with that in the last day or two.
However, one of my adjustments has caused a possible cache problem, but only on cellphones and not on desktops or laptops. Weird, but my cellphone doesn’t always update the blog when I go to it. Sometimes I have to hit “refresh,” and then it updates just fine. I’m curious whether any of you have encountered that problem. Thanks!
I have not had the “refresh” problem, but in the past week I had the “too many requests” several times when trying to log in.
I have not seen it this week.
So far so good in the past few days.
Device used to access: Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (tablet)
Haven’t seen “too many requests” glitch for many days, but started getting loading misses around the same time the “too many …” bug went away.
The “empty loading” problem, if I may dub it so, is still a current condition more frequently encountered than not, at a ratio of perhaps 20 to 40 empty loads (on first go) to 1 which loads properly. Re-loading works every time successfully, so far as I can tell. So a nuisance, yes, but a minor one all in all.
Have had lots of refresh problems on a desktop…mainly having to refresh the “Recent Comments” on sidebar, and even clicking on a comment there doesn’t take me to the comment, i.e. another refresh there to get most recent comment.
Obviously more fine-tuning is needed.
Sigh.
Two days ago the blog wouldn’t load after many attempts. Then “too many requests” for maybe an hour in the afternoon. In the evening it came back. No problem yesterday.
Android phone.
Won’t accept my email address.
I shall change to older email and see what happens
And there it goes with newer email address. I’m sure it’s on my side…android
hi Neo,
Initial page load is fine. Showing replies takes a little longer. Running Brave on an M3 macbook air
Loading fine, but forever on my phone I have to refresh to get new comments. I don’t think it’s on your end, probably firefox/duckduckgo
TEST – for those saying front page loads are good – try refreshing the front page and see if the comment order on sidebar “Recent Comments” is the same.
Also, until recently, if you clicked on a comment in the “Recent Comments” then you would be taken right to that comment. Now, it either takes you to the top of the post or an older comment at the bottom that needs a refresh for newer comment.
That is what I’m finding the past few days…preferred the time outs over the refresh issues…personally.
Two days ago…Too many requests.
Since then…fine. Android phone and Safari browser.
I’ve had to refresh to see new comments on my cell phone here for a long time. Also had the problem Karmi mentioned above about clicking on a ‘recent comment’ only to not see the comment I was clicking on.
per Voice in the Wilderness and physicsguy
Chrome, Firefox, and Epic browsers have the refresh issues.
Brave didn’t, so some browsers have refresh issues and some don’t.
I would go back to original time outs issue, if I could, and if it was me…
UPDATE: Brave also has some issues with the refresh.
Feb 17 @ 5:20 ish cloudflare error followed by too many requests. Nothing since.
Yesterday or the day before I couldn’t load the blog.
No issues with refresh.
Thank you for your efforts to fix this! Your blog is a favorite of mine.
Yesterday, the 18th, I tried to get on your site at 6pm. I was on mobile and got nowhere. Things just froze, no messages at all. I tried a few more times over the following 10 minutes, with the same result. About 20 minutes later I tried again and was then able to get to your site with no problems.
I had a bunch of problems yesterday, Tuesday afternoon. Could not get to the site: timeouts or “too many requests.” It seemed to resolve after a couple of hours.
Neo:
You have nothing to apologize about. This blog is obviously a labor of love for you, and we regular readers very much appreciate everything you do to keep it going. Best wishes for a quick resolution.
No problems this week.
I’ve never had the “too many requests” problem.
I’ve not had any problems within the last few months at least. But I used to experience old pages in the cache and the need to force refreshes frequently on a Windows laptop.
New posts are loading much much better this evening. I’ve had maybe six or seven in a row normal just now. Huzzah!
sdferr:
That’s good to hear. This evening, I cut back drastically on caching. The goal was to have new posts and comments load better. But it might end up causing more slowdowns. We’ll see.
FWIW – negative evidence? – I am not having any problems, including the misdirected comment linking, although it does take a little while to load and display.
Laptop computer using Brave.
I only had one “too many requests” notice during most of the kerfuffle.
Maybe the host server just likes me 😉
If so, then the host server is a smart cookie, AesopFan!
Had “Too many requests” about 15 minutes ago.
On an Android phone using the Brave browser.
Ditto the others: No apology needed!
I love your blog!
I usually only get to read it in the dark of night. It’s so nice to have a group i largely agree with, and also learn a lot from.
Rather, “from which I learn a lot.”
Lol
Blog is snappy again today—snappy as in quick ‘n fast.
No refresh issues in “Recent Comments” sidebar. SNAPPY!
Marlene,
“Rather, “from which I learn a lot.” ” Yes, early education makes the strongest impressions.
But I fear this preposition thing is now a lost cause.
