  1. Read a lot last night on Instapundit about obstruction in releasing the J6’ers. Now, was there just one report that was constantly repeated? Is it true?

  2. As mentioned in the “Dictator on Day One” post – my comment @ January 21, 2025 at 4:28 pm – it’s past time ‘to break these left-wing deceitful Progressive #MeToo cloned women from lying in public.’ With apparently no Statute of Limitations for such accusations – one might be better off just murdering a potential accuser if you happened to pat her buttocks 40 years ago. Trump should put this on his list of ‘Thangs to stop…

Hegseth’s Ex-Wife Disputes Claims from Estranged Ex-Sister-in-Law: ‘There Was No Physical Abuse in My Marriage’

Pete Hegseth’s ex-wife has disputed claims made by an estranged ex-sister-in-law she was abused during their marriage — a fact being downplayed by the mainstream news media and Democrats in a last-ditch effort to tank Hegseth’s confirmation as defense secretary.
    ***
Donald Trump Jr. also called out NBC News for not highlighting that their report was disputed by the subject of their piece.

“Notice how this ‘reporter’ doesn’t include in her tweet the most important part of their failed hit piece: That Hegseth’s ex wife is ON THE RECORD denying these claims. Shouldn’t that be the headline here? This is exactly why we say the media is the enemy of the people!!!

    Well said Mr. President!!!

  3. ref miguel cervantes link – ‘Hamas held hostages in compounds belonging to the United Nations ‘ … now that is beyond just a sham!?!

Get us out of the UN and throw that entire corrupt anti-freedon – anti-America – antisemitic organization out of America!!!!

  4. unwra served as their indoctrination centers so it makes a certain amount of sense,
they would have sanctuary there, of course most of foggy bottom like the later arthur close or their counterparts in the foreign office agree,

  5. Whole bunch of swat-team looking guys in the building today. This is also the building that houses one of the main train stations here in Chicago. Wonder if it all has something to do with the ICE enforcement actions.

  6. Rob Reiner is one of the few hard core leftists I can think of, who was really great at his craft (directing, not so much acting). I wonder if he was starting out today, if he would go woke and ruin films like so many of the filmmakers today.

There is a filmmaking story that is rather the opposite of the video. Jeff Bridges was hired to star in The Big Lebowski, and the 1st day of shooting was drawing nearer. So Jeff started memorizing his lines and gets a dozen or so pages into it and stops. He’s thinking, all of the films I’ve been in have massively rewritten the script a few days into shooting, so why memorize more than the first few pages??

But then he thinks, well this is the Coen bros. and they’re well known to be quite different than the usual Hollywood types. Then he calls his buddy John Goodman and asks him: You’ve worked with these guys. Should I take the script I have now seriously or not?

Goodman tells him. Oh no, that script you have is the bible for the shoot. Memorize as much as you can. Those two brothers pour over the script meticulously and rewrite repeatedly if necessary… before shooting starts. Goodman says, working on a few films with them, I’ve seen them change a line once.

  7. coen brothers with a script I would have never gathered that,

they make it seem so impromptu,

certainly with raising arizona and fargo, also burn after reading, which seems to have been an optimum view of the CIA

then again you need a firm grasp on the characters to know how they can deviate,

  8. I’ve loved the Coen Bros films but never did a deep dive on them. However, right from the start of their first film, “Blood Simple,” I knew those guys were Writers.

The world is full o’ complainers. An’ the fact is, nothin’ comes with a guarantee. Now I don’t care if you’re the pope of Rome, President of the United States or Man of the Year; somethin’ can all go wrong. Now go on ahead, y’know, complain, tell your problems to your neighbor, ask for help, ‘n watch him fly.

Now, in Russia, they got it mapped out so that everyone pulls for everyone else… that’s the theory, anyway. But what I know about is Texas, an’ down here… you’re on your own.

    Chills.

Read by M. Emmet Walsh, one of the all-time great character actors, who played the wonderfully sleazy private investigator.

    RIP Mr. Walsh.

  9. @TommyJay:The Big Lebowski

Jeff Bridges mostly wore his own clothes in that movie, including the jelly sandals. He would usually begin a scene by asking the Coen brothers if they thought the Dude probably burned one on the way over.

@huxley:Now, in Russia, they got it mapped out so that everyone pulls for everyone else… that’s the theory, anyway.

I think my favorite political aside from them is in Raising Arizona, during a montage of Nicholas Cage robbing convenience stores:

I tried to stand up and fly straight, but it wasn’t easy with that sumbitch Reagan in the White House…

  10. miguel cervantes, of course the Episcopal Bishop of Washington and family contributed to Democrats, if to anyone. Clergy in that church organization are overwhelmingly avowed leftists.

  11. huxley on January 22, 2025 at 1:59 pm

I love Blood Simple. I bought the Criterion version Blu-Ray disk a few years ago and watched it at least 4 times. That monolog that huxley mentions was added after the film was edited and (I think) focus group tested.

On the disk they have running dialog by the Coen bros. throughout the film, if you switch it on. It’s interesting how writer types make the nearly impossible jump into film directing, and getting the authorization and money to do it. Those two knew that they didn’t know a lot about the whole task and took the first film very seriously. That strongly influenced their decision to try to write a nearly flawless script. Although Joel had worked as either an assistant or 2nd director for Sam Raimi.

I like these early lines after the that monolog.

Abby: He gave me a little pearl-handled .38 for our first anniversary.
    Ray: Uh-huh.
Abby: Figured I’d better leave before I used it on him. I don’t know how you can stand him.
Ray: Well, I’m only an employee, I ain’t married to him.

That sets the foreshadowing about Abby. Is she a classic noir femme fatale or isn’t she? And it brings in the all-important revolver. In a reverse of the concept of “deus ex machina,” the six-shooter with only three cartridges loaded becomes the ultimate “en machina” plot device. When a character pulls the trigger (or kicks the trigger), will it fire or not?

They actually use two different prop guns in the film. A pearl handled H&R .32 caliber with a trigger guard is used in most scenes. It won’t go off it you kick it on the floor, in spite of that actual scene. And briefly, a S&W .38 is shown in a close-up that has the trigger guard sawed off. So yes, it could fire when kicked.

  12. OK, just one more on Blood Simple. I promise.

    M. Emmet Walsh was an established actor, and the Coen bros. were then nobodies.

    Trivia:

Joel Coen had trouble convincing M. Emmet Walsh to pick his hat up off the ground in the movie’s climactic ending scene. Walsh had a laundry list of all the reasons his character would not do such a thing, each of which Coen tried and failed to debate. After minutes of arguing on set, Coen asked Walsh, “Will you please just humor me?”, to which Walsh replied, “I’m humoring you by doing this whole fucking movie.”

Walsh demanded that he be paid in cash at the end of every week. To ensure that his effort wouldn’t be a total loss.

  13. Wars

You will hear about wars and threats of wars, but don’t be alarmed. These things must happen, but the end is still to come.

That’s the ChatGPT version – but there are many versions of Matthew 24:6.

Who would’ve thought that Hamas/Gaza could’ve stood against Israel and survived? I didn’t. Israel had grown weary in the fight—then it seemed Trump applied some political pressure.

Who would’ve thought that Ukraine could’ve survived almost 3-years against the Russian reinvasion? I didn’t.

Many complain about how much America spent on helping Ukraine stand against Russia. I researched it last night…seemed like a weird search for some reason…I dunno. Anyway, seems the actual amounts were broken down into 3-parts: 1) already spent – a. $106 billion has been allocated directly to the Ukrainian government. b. $56.3 billion for weapons and military equipment. 2) Approved but not yet spent.

    Yeah, weird. More weird:

It’s important to note that while $183 billion has been appropriated, not all of these funds have been disbursed yet. As of September 30, 2024, $130.1 billion had been obligated, with $86.7 billion actually disbursed.

Ditto on the Yeah … some kind of Govt math I suppose. Best figure that I could come up with was less that $200-Billion total so far. Not a lot more than Britain and the EU have provided so far. Right-wing media shouts about it as if America has spent closer to a Trillion Gringo-dollars, and that Britain and the EU have barely spent anything.

How much was it worth to the American Military and the American Security complex to know how weak the Russia military actually was? Several Trillion Gringo-dollars, IMHO.

Israel could not defeat an Army that had no major artillery, no tanks, and no Jets fighters. Doubtful Hamas even had attack helicopters. And Gaza is an incredibly small target.

Russo-Ukrainian War quickly became more akin to WW I’s trench warfare than modern concepts of Maneuver warfare. Ukraine quickly introduced Drone warfare into the equation – and have held back the once feared Russian military with Drones and incredibly hard fighting infantry troops. Mobile mechanical maneuvering hasn’t been successful for either side. Several Trillion *MORE* Gringo-dollars worth of info being provided by Ukraine to the American Military and Security complexes.

Cheap, smart, deadly. The tech industry pitches a new way to wage war.

Anduril has deep ties to President Donald Trump’s tech funders and advisers. It is the most prominent among a raft of defense upstarts aiming to challenge established defense contractors by recasting U.S. military technology around nimble drones and software, instead of giant ships and expensive aircraft.
    ***
…one night this past April, after Iran fired more than 300 missiles and self-destructing drones at Israel from Iran, Iraq, Yemen and Lebanon.

No one died and only a handful of missiles reached their targets — a victory for Israel and allies including the United States, who shot down most of Iran’s weapons. But that success didn’t come cheap.

The high-tech missiles that repelled the assault collectively cost hundreds of millions of dollars, military experts said. The weapons Iran fired were much cheaper: Each of its Shahed drones can be made for about $50,000… The U.S. response included SM-3 missiles that can each cost $28 million

  14. Trump has odered a “one-flag” policy for US embassies. Only the US flag will be flown. No more gay pride flags. No more BLM (Black Lives Matter) flags.

Compared to some other issues, this might seem like a small thing, but it means a lot to me, because I spent quite a few years working outside the country, and leftist political flags at embassies irritated me more than it probably should have.

    Thanks to President Trump.

  15. I assume, along with not flying any flag other than the U.S. flag at our embassies, we will stop trying to export left-wing social mores on the rest of the world. Embassies should be dedicated to serving American interests and American citizens.

  16. Pass around the hat for Cary Elwes and Billy Crystal who lost their homes in Los Angeles. Rob Reiner pretty much lost his Hollywood Hills house in the 1983 fires. No word if his Malibu house is safe now or if he’s checked out of the “facility” yet.

Blood Simple was a great watch in the theater 30 years ago. Watching it at home last year was more of a “meh” for me.
