FoxNews’ Chad Pergram reports Gov. Desantis will appoint Fl. AG Ashley Moody to fill Sen. Marco Rubio’s seat. Lots of moving parts to the story, which see in the Xpost above.
Bob Uecker has passed on at 90 yrs. Rest in peace you good man.
I used to listen to Ueker on the radio when he did color for the Brewers. He was a great announcer. He was entertaining even in the late innings of a meaningless September game.
Loved Uecker. Genuinely funny former athlete, which is rare. He didn’t travel much in the later years, just calling home games, but he showed up in Cincinnati not too long ago, and was hanging out with the Reds broadcast team in the booth.
Marty Brennaman, the Reds announcer, asked him why he still travels to some cities but not others. He said, “Well Marty, it’s been years since I played, but there are still some fans out there that remember me from my playing days. And a lot of them are still pretty angry about it, so I try to avoid any city I played in.”
Interesting video–I’d been vaguely aware of the Dutch landfill and water engineering, but not the details. A good chunk of lower Manhattan and Boston’s Back Bay used to be underwater as well. Also SF’s Marina District. It affects what can be built there (skyscrapers are problematic). Not sure if the Dutch immigrants were involved in the Manhattan landfills.
Regarding the deal, I’m desperate to hear anything from Commentary Magazine or from Caroline Glick. Both seem to have good inside sources in Israel.
Getting back to Uecker, I found this astounding in this day and age – from Wikipedia:
Prior to the 2021 season, Uecker had never signed an official written contract with the Brewers to do the team’s play-by-play, instead agreeing to do so via an undisclosed number of handshake agreements with either Bud Selig or Mark Attanasio, the owners of the team. He signed a contract in 2021, in order to be covered under the Brewers’ health insurance plan after cuts to his SAG-AFTRA benefits for acting work.
RIP Bob Uecker. Always good, always entertaining.
Ashley Moody appears to be yet another intelligent, strong conservative woman. How are leftists going to cope with so many, especially given how their own female senators performed at the Hegseth confirmation hearing?
Mark Lemley, a Stanford law professor who represented Meta in a 2023 AI copyright case, has dropped the company as a client due to what he calls CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s “descent into toxic masculinity and Neo-Nazi madness.”
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu & Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) makes you “toxic masculinity” in a few years?! Not following orders from the Progressives and The Swamp makes you a “Neo-Nazi”?! Zuckerberg should sue Mark Lemley for slander…
RIP Bob Uecker and David Lynch. I grew up watching Mr. Belvedere and Twin Peaks.
The day after the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas was announced, people in Gaza, as well as on social media, erupted in celebrations of what many are interpreting as a victory over Israel.
Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei wrote on X, in English and Hebrew: “It will be written in books that there was a mob who once killed thousands of children & women in Gaza! Everyone will realize it was the patience of the people & steadfastness of Palestinian Resistance & Resistance Front that forced Zionist regime to retreat.”
Khamenei closed with the hashtag “#GazaIsVictorious”
Israel beat them to a bloody pulp, but could not beat them into surrendering…

Thanks for the update. I’ve known Lynch was seriously ill with emphysema and it had left him housebound.
I’m pretty mixed on Lynch’s work. “Blue Velvet” was brilliant. “Twin Peaks” was offbeat great. I’ll even defend his “Dune.” I’m not sure I’ll ever watch “Lost Highway” or “Mullholland Drive” again. Much less “Eraserhead.”
Nonetheless, Lynch was an American original, quite powerful when his work landed. Though how his bizarre, disturbing art related to his global advocacy for Transcendental Meditation is a mystery to me.
The Elephant Man is an exceptionally fine work, I think. RIP, David Lynch.
Gonna watch David Lynch’s Wild at Heart. Crazy weird but have always liked that movie…will put Blue Velvet on the list and see if I liked it also—since can’t remember.
“Wild at Heart” is up there on my Lynch list too, if only for Nicolas Cage’s and Laura Dern’s performances. Throw in Willem Dafoe and Harry Dean Stanton and you’re cooking.
Like most Lynch films it has hard to watch scenes.
New word for me today – well, make that two words: “sycophant” & “obsequious”—which sounds nicer than what I call such people…
Donald Trump has sent shockwaves through D.C. after a top House Republican charged with overseeing the CIA and FBI was dramatically replaced.
***
Turner, 65, who served as the committee’s chair since January 2023, was accused by Trump loyalists in the House Freedom Caucus of having a ‘sycophantic’ relationship with members of the CIA and FBI.
*** Turner, meanwhile, is no longer on the committee at all.
Those types of dudes could potentially be rats—whether they know it or not…
So good news, the booster of flight 7 was caught without any issues . . . the apparent bad news, the ship was lost — incommunicado — after roughly 8 mins, its demise as yet unexplained.
Today’s open thread video reminds me of a 30 part YouTube series I think many here would enjoy, “Map Men.”
RE: Decades of Horrific Pakistani Muslim grooming/rape gang’s crimes in the UK, and the Labour government’s response
England’s Tommy Robinson has tried to bring public attention to this issue, and for his efforts the authorities have arrested, and prosecuted him, and he now resides in jail, in solitary confinement, for his efforts.
However, recent comments by Elon Musk, with his extremely large audience and influence, have brought this subject to renewed public attention.
And, as more and more information about this decade’s long series of crimes, the many thousands of young, working class white girls who were it’s victims, and the widespread occurrence of these horrific crimes, in a reported 50 cities, has surfaced–pressure has been growing on the governing Labour party for a thorough, national level investigation.
In the last few days opposition parties proposed legislation in Parliament to set up such a thorough, national level inquiry, and it was unanimously voted down by members of the majority Labour party.
But, the pressure has kept building, so in the last day or so, Labour has proposed that “government backed local inquiries” should be undertaken.
However, as opposition Reform leader Nigel Farage has pointed out, since these would not be the “national level” inquiries the opposition proposed –which would have had the “statutory authority” to summon witnesses, and to compel testimony–these “local inquiries,” without these powers, would be unable to get to the truth.
Thus, this is just a ploy by the Labour government to stymie any real, thorough inquiry into the failure of every level of authority in England when faced with this massive crime. *

Totally hilarious … and Pythonesque! I’ll have to get right on that.
PS Rufus’s link is only a couple minutes long, so give it a try.
PPS The Map Men are explaining Bir Tawil and it is indeed Terra Nullius — unclaimed territory.

Bir Tawil may be (barely) habitable but there is good reason neither of its bordering nations bother to claim it.
