I found that very interesting. BUT, I do Miles and F degrees.
Also, like many younger people, he speaks too fast.
More fires in CA. The only people that are affected by the fires that can push major changes are the Hollywood elites. They have a voice, the Middle and Lower economic peoples have none. The LA Times is now owned by someone that isn’t woke. Hopefully, he will push for a lot of strong opinion pieces lambasting the leaders. That is what makes change possible.
I’ll know how the political wind is blowing if my beloved left-wing brother in the San Fernando Valley (1) doesn’t cancel the LA Times because of its new more balanced reporting and (2) starts to talk about the incompetence of LA’s management. Right now, he’s still in shock and can’t bear to turn on the TV.
I don’t know how to link to any of the memes at The Week in Pictures at the Power Line blog. One just made me laugh out loud. It’s a caption on the photo of Trump and Obama sharing a laugh at the Carter funeral. Trump says, “Do you realize, by the time I’m sworn in I’m going to be a felon that worked at McDonald’s. Help me out here. Some LA functionary is in CYA mode over the technical glitch which sent out false evacuation alerts multiple times. He is “clarifying” the matter for the media.
On the right there is an overly expressive guy doing the sign language translation. He seems to think he’s doing Bad Hamlet or he is making fun of the functionary.

Yeah, Trump was totally unprepared to be President of the United States of America when he took Office in 2017 – which led to his chaotic ‘n disastrous 4 years…he alone is to be blamed for that mistake, IMHO.
Interesting article – mentioning that “Ms.” Wiles intends to give it her best shot at doing the full four years, in a job that she has no experience in—like ‘foreign and national security policy in a job of cascading international crises’, and admits she is nervous about it.
Nervous or not – “Ms.” Wiles has done an excellent job up to this point, and I suspect such performance to continue for the next four years…

Both are due to the same phenomenon, plate tectonics. Sometimes the continents have been all grouped together into one continent, at least four times, and sometimes they’ve been more evenly distributed than they are now. When they spread apart you see the “opposites are filling in the gaps from the other side,” and when they push together you get mountain ranges.
The Red Sea is a recent split of Arabia from Africa, the South Atlantic Ocean is an older one of Africa from South America.
The Himalayas are where India’s plate is pushing into Asia, it used to be attached to Australia, Africa, and Antartica.
An interesting exercise is to rotate a globe until continents are only barely visible on the edge, with the rest of the hemisphere being water–for example looking down on 165 W 15 S.

I’ll never understand the hatred the Trumpers have for Ukraine.
Ukraine has been invaded by the most powerful military in the Eastern hemisphere in a genocidal war of conquest. Said military has raped thousands of Ukrainian women as a matter of policy, kidnapped tens of thousands of Ukrainian children to “make them Russian”, killed hundreds of thousands of Ukrainian men, established torture centers throughout the occupied territories, filled dozens of mass graves, and leveled whole cities to the ground.
It has bombed over a thousand medical facilities and thousands of apartment buildings. It has intentionally targeted grain silos, food distribution centers, and grocery stores with the stated objective of creating a famine. It has targeted steam generation (heating) plants, electrical power plants, and large electrical transformers with the stated objective of freezing millions of civilians to death.
The Russians don’t hide this. They talk about it openly in media owned and operated by the Russian government (“If you’re not our friend, you don’t get to eat.”).
And through it all the Trumpers cheer it on. They cheer on the death and destruction. You only see a glimpse of it here, but go to any site where the Trumpers are more numerous, and you’ll see it in spades. I would say it echoes the left cheering on Oct. 7th, but it predates that.
It is evil, and I’ll never understand it.
That has left me wondering since I first arrived here – tho first noticed at Power Line & Breitbart. At first I just thought they supported Russia, but now I am thinking they are mad that Ukraine didn’t succumb to Trump’s lawfare against them:
• Administrative and Legislative Lawfare (Withholding Military Aid)
• Diplomatic Lawfare
• Abuse of Investigative Processes (‘..blurred the lines between legitimate international cooperation on anti-corruption investigations and using legal inquiries as tools for political targeting, etc.)
• Legal and Procedural Lawfare (Obstruction of Congress)
A closer search would probably reveal more lawfare tactics used against Ukraine and Zelenskyy.
To make matters worse for Ukraine ‘n Zelenskyy – Trump ended up being impeached over his (and his allies) lawfare tactics against Ukraine. It got even worse when Trump lost the 2020 election and Biden started using lawfare against Trump.
Now, since Trump is a convicted felon (by lawfare no less), and Republicans do hate felons, they probably hate Ukraine ‘n Zelenskyy even more (if that is even possible). Am not a psychiatrist, so I don’t know what to expect from them next…

There may be “Trumpers” who actually hate Ukraine, but the majority of them are simply not seeing that there is a security interest for the United States that is served by intervening between Russia and Ukraine, which is worth the risk to the United States of a hot war with Russia.
I personally think Russia is obviously the aggressor against Ukraine. But that doesn’t mean America is made safer in trying to interfere. Europe might have that security interest, and has its own nuclear weapons, three times the population (449 million vs 146 million) and four times the GDP of Russia ($28.0 trillion vs $6.9 trillion PPP), and even spends more than twice as much on its military as Russia does, and they don’t have to cross an ocean to help out. They are big enough and rich enough to handle it if they are concerned, as concerned as we should be if Mexico had nukes and was invading Guatemala.
It’s nice to see they’re weaning themselves off Russian natural gas, and not putting as much money in Putin’s pocket.
For people who don’t click links, EU defense spending in 2023 was $295 billion, and Russia’s was $100 billion in 2023. If they’re taking Putin seriously as a threat, then let’s hope it’s not going to breast augmentation for transgendered soldiers.
Karmi is a bit uncritical in his repetition of the supposed lawfare President Trump subjected Ukraine to. He hates Trump and buys the FJB line it seems.
FJB was and is corrupt and could be argued didn’t deter Vlad and then was incompetent in aiding Ukraine.
President Trump was out of office when Vladdy invaded Ukraine Karmi. Try to remember that basic fact. I support Ukraine and the defeat of Russia, remember that too.

I know a lot about the workings of the American Justice System—and more than enough about the infamous Rule of Law (AKA King’s Law); however, before coming here, I had never heard of “lawfare”.
Knew that DEMs ‘n REPs fought over the control of Law, in order to have their views shoved down the throats of others—whilst using the powers of *BIG* Govt to do that shoving. Commenter in another thread mentioned that a radio host said ‘the Law being used as a spear against citizens, rather than a shield for their liberties’ is another way to put it.
Knew that people were being setup by law enforcement and even prosecutors ‘n judges, but didn’t really know there was a fancy educated term for it, i.e., “lawfare”.
Never knew how prevalent such setups (now known as “Lawfare” to me) were – nor how many people and ‘Thangs used such tactics. Ditto on the “Lawfare is a natural part of mankind’s Rule of Law (AKA King’s Law), but just not documented” statement I made in another thread.
From divorce lawfare proceedings to International Lawfare (‘Human Rights Litigation, Leveraging institutions like the United Nations – World Trade Organization – or International Court of Justice, Sanctions and Trade Disputes, etc.)__in any type of Criminal or Civil case…or any ‘Thang connected to Laws ‘n legal stuff.
Lawfare is literally woven into the fabric of the Rule of law ‘n Laws – it is so prevalent in human societies that such weaving probably started on the same day the first law was created…
