“That’s it?” If the allegations seem like a nothingburger to you, Mr. Comey, then it’s only more reason to hope you never get near a government post again.

“Dishonest and misleading”—Which parts, and what is your evidence for claiming they are dishonest?

“wrecked the House intel committee”—in what way? Is it not still in operation? The vote was along predictable party lines, as so many things are these days.

“damaged relationship with the FISA court”—how, and whose relationship? If anything might have “damaged” that relationship, it would have been the alleged actions themselves, if in fact the FISA court was not informed of the extremely pertinent information about the origins of the dossier.

“inexcusably exposed classified investigation of an American citizen”—If the investigation was begun through the use of partisan opp research, not only do Americans have a right to know, but that fact also provides the “excuse” for this “inexcusable” exposure. What’s more, virtually all of the information contained in the dossier and released was already in the public domain, having been revealed by internal leaks to the MSM. I don’t recall Comey being so incensed at that.

In fact, I seem to recall that a leaker of other classified information was Comey himself:

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley is pressing the Justice Department for answers on whether James Comey violated bureau rules, saying it appears the former FBI director leaked “at least one” classified memo to a professor friend shortly after his firing.

Grassley, R-Iowa, penned a letter to Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein late Wednesday, saying he and his staff had reviewed the Comey memos which were “created purportedly memorializing his interactions with President Trump.” They did so in a Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility (SCIF) at the FBI and the Senate, because the FBI deemed the “majority of the memos” to be “classified.”

“Of the seven memos, four are marked classified at the ‘SECRET’or ‘CONFIDENTIAL’ levels,” Grassley wrote, adding that “only three did not contain classified information.”

Grassley’s letter appears to back up July 2017 reports that several of Comey’s private memos contained classified material. The Hill first reported this development; Fox News confirmed with a legal source at the time that some material contained classified information. The president seized on those reports at the time with a tweet saying: “That is so illegal!”

Comey admitted in congressional testimony in June 2017 that he had given his friend, Columbia University Professor Daniel Richman, his memos about discussions with Trump in order to have his notes leaked to The New York Times — hoping to spur the appointment of a special counsel to investigate Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential campaign.

Somehow Comey’s faux outrage is unconvincing, despite his vehement language.

Comey’s tweet ends like this: “For what? DOJ & FBI must keep doing their jobs.” The answer to “for what?” should be obvious: to expose possible wrongdoing on the part of government entities tasked with protecting the law and keeping us safe. And the response to “DOJ & FBI must keep doing their jobs” would be doing their jobs correctly, not in a partisan manner or because they were fed information by one side attempting to do a hit on the other.

[ADDENDUM: A reminder from Ace:

When Comey “briefed” Trump about the memo, he also withheld from Trump the dossier’s partisan origins as well as the unreliablity (and firability) of its alleged author.

Note I always put “briefed” in quotes when I speak of this “briefing,” because this briefing was not for the President’s information, but for CNN’s: The plan was to make the dossier “reportable” by giving it a newsworthy angle (It’s so explosive the president was briefed on it!).

CNN was almost immediately leaked the news of this “briefing.” It should be pointed out that one of the four reporters pushing this leak to the public was Evan Perez, who is a best friend of Fusion GPS’ Glenn Simpson.

  1. The two men I respect the most lately – Jordan Peterson and Ben Shapiro on Dave Rubin’s show.

    While I’m only 10 minutes into it, Jordan Peterson’s reasoning is more compelling to me – and it is probably due more to my experiences with religion. While I’m very spiritual it is so refreshing to see Jordan Peterson admit his weaknesses and yet be compelling AT THE SAME TIME.

  2. Back on topic. I’ve spent two hours watching Ben Shapiro’s twitter feed and he is arguing the case that the MEMO has deep flaws.

    While my job is to listen, I cannot understand how this entire year of Russian collusion transpired other than an overzealous, lying, misrepresenting, set of agencies (and compliant media) worked to keep Trump from office and then try to remove Trump from office.

    Now that we see a lot of these facts come out, how can anyone believe this memo should’ve remained under wraps?

  5. Now at 29:30 (in the video referenced above), Ben Shapiro admits he is completely unfamiliar with the case of Lindsey Shepard at a Canadian University. A liberal student who simply used a Jordan Peterson’s video in discussion of Bill C-16 as a teacher’s assistant.

    While Lindsey is now red-pilled, she’s a classic liberal just like Dave Rubin and Jordan Peterson who are now “woke”.

    What sources of information is Ben exposing himself to? I know he is a busy man but you have to weed out the 100% obamaphiles in your search of truth.

    It is kind of a nothingburger for those of us who’ve been reading Andrew McCarthy and other knowledgeable commentators. The memo’s real impact is to officially and clearly connect the dots we already knew.

    Now they can’t muck with the facts, so they are going to squirt out a lot high dudgeon emotional squid ink to deflect and confuse.

  9. Part of this is psychology. Part of this is the pompousness of Obama, Comey, Lois Lerner (IRS), etc.

    You can cut through the bias and understand the facts based on feelings and experience…

    I think many of these people like Samantha Powers, and Obama, and Susan Rice, etc have an infantile understanding of the world.

    They were on the top of a fence post (turtle) and didn’t really know how they got there yet made jokes about people like the mayor from Wasilla (John McCain’s running mate). shoot. oh well. But think of her and her husband’s experiences and how they match up with the knowledge of people who study like Jordan Peterson.

    There are people who have a 100 IQ and people who have 140 IQ who based on experience know very deeply how bad communism is and how important free will, free markets, equal opportunity is.

    While we will see a correlation that a higher percentage of people who have their masters degrees or higher sway left – it isn’t because they are smarter – it may actually require real life living for them to develop the better sense that Comey, Obama, Susan Rice, the bunch of them dont’ understand the line they crossed and they crossed it badly. They simply were subverting the election processes and they were in a sense colluding.

    They have 95% media on their side and they couldn’t engineer a win with their message? Their message was so unappealing because people across the spectrums now are waking up to the fact that to live as one people with equal opportunity that we can’t continue these divisions, suppress wages, and live a life with no opportunity in our communities thinking like we have to live life like Obama’s Julia in that Julia video.

    I’ve forgotten those commentators. I think it was Greta Van Susteren, as a Fox commentator, who approved Lynch. She moved from Fox to MSNBC so that’s a clue.

The lack of realization on the left that their ideology if unchecked and be radicalized with their naive compassion being weaponized by people with evil intents like Soros, Obama and Hillary can easily become just as horrible as the Nazi is what makes them dangerous. the “fighting for the little guys” motive was removed completely from any teaching of the horrific communism history to make sure that kids today are ignorant that their “fighting for the disadvantaged” motto can easily turn into great disasters as other ideologies they deemed evil.

    Huxley, my wife asked why they dumped this on Friday. I responded that I all I could think of was that they wanted the “talking heads” to have it on Sunday. On reflection, I agree with you completely. Should not have stepped on the SOTU this weekend.

  23. It is being said that the focus of Mueller’s investigation has changed from “collusion by Trump with Russia” to “obstruction of justice by Trump in firing Comey.” As Inigo Montoya said, “I don’t think this word ‘justice’ means what [Mueller] thinks it means.”

    To Mueller, and to the progressive elite, “justice” meant that Hillary would be President, and Trump is obstructing that justice because we deplorables were tricked into electing him.

    To us bible-thumping, knuckle-dragging deplorables, justice is divine, and often, retribution. It’s when the little people win. And in that sense, “justice” was that we defeated the felonious Hillary.

    As I see it, James Comey, Robert Mueller, and their henchmen are obstructing justice by desperately trying to remove our President through any means.

  31. I try to put myself in the brain of the people who perpetrated this attempt to carry off a soft coups.

    First, you have to dislike Trump and consider him totally unacceptable as a President. I can understand that. I’m not in love with the Trump style myself. Check.

    Second, you have to be willing to believe that he has possibly been “groomed’ by the KGB over the last fifteen years. Or, at the very least, you have to believe that he would accept help from Russia to defeat Hillary. Check.

    Third, you have to be willing to accept a dubious dossier paid for by Trump’s opponents (Anti-Trumpers, then Hillary and the DNC.) as an acceptable basis for executing an investigation into collusion with the Russians by the Trump campaign and, after he is elected, the Trump Presidency. Check.

    Fourth, you have to believe in your heart of hearts that you are doing the absolute right thing for the nation in continuing the investigation when no evidence shows up. Disliking Trump makes this easy. Check.

    Fifth, when people who are loyal to Trump question the investigation, it convinces you that they are opponents of democracy and the American way. Surely the Trump supporters are as evil as he. Check.

    Sixth, when evidence is presented of the error/treason of your efforts to remove Trump from office, you counter attack with vehemence as you are even more convinced of the correctness and patriotism of your actions. Check.

    In other words, you have to have a deep dislike of Trump, a mind set in concrete, and unwilling to consider any evidence that you could be wrong, wrong, wrong. Check.

    It was any conservative, anyone who supported Israel, anyone who believed they were Taxed Enough Already, the sisters of the poor, the cake maker, etc.

    Look, Trump is an inarticulate, vulgar, business man (I like business men in general) who is about execution and getting things down and we conservatives may not even agree with him on a lot of issues (eminent domain or providing 5G service via the government, but when someone justifies with the ends justify the means then I have to identify where I stand.

    I stand on the side of good. Mao and Stalin stood on the side of wrong. Leftists, fascists, nazi’s, etc are all wrong – they don’t understand freedom, equal opportunity, not having government choose the winners and loses in the marketplace – they want control. They are control freaks. THey think they can do better and I don’t like them no matter how many check boxes they think they checked.

    That doesn’t mean I like Trump. Between Hillary and Trump (I’m doing long distance psychology) I don’t know which one has zero ability to self-assess and cannot evolve out of their narcissism.

    But look at how the media kept handing questions to Hillary’s advisors on the plane for approval. So yes, Trump doesn’t get to approve his questions and he hasn’t served a life in government colluding to get Uranium One deals and Haiti rip off relief deals to the Clinton Foundation, and deals from Qatar and Morroco and on and on.

    With the Internet age they can’t pull this crap anymore. THeir days of control are over.

    Hopefully next time we get somebody who isn’t so vulgar.

There is something about Ben Shapiro that really rubs me the wrong way, perhaps his elitist attitude or lack of humility, you can tell he is a cold opportunist, you can tell he chose to be a conservative because this side is not as crowded as the other side and have way more opportunities to stand out and make a name for himself. You think he cares about the little guys? of course not, people like him will never be a leader nor a starter of any movement, he is not relatable, no one will ever follow him.     I didn’t listen to the video (I only do transcripts that I can review later), but scanned the Twitter feed to see what other people were saying, and one linked to this from Politico. I don’t agree with some of the points therein, because some of them are just Handwavium, but I think it raises some questions that should be addressed.
    The second link needs some pondering, because the source is much more credible and the issues more relevant to the ongoing investigation (ie, illustrates how lawyers are adept at using statutes that enrage laymen who know the difference between Just and Legal).

  41. The second article (from Kerr) is good, but it does not mean what you think it means.

    We are still very, very early in the game. The House Intelligence memo was never intended to be the end of the story. It was intended to get the conversation started. Schiff is unwittingly playing into Nunes’s hands by giving the story another news cycle and even more coverage, the end game of which is to do as Kerr implies and declassify the FISA warrant applications on Carter Page. The public will then be able to assess directly the veracity of those involved in the domestic surveillance.

    As Sundance notes at Conservative Treehouse, Page’s warrant (and the Nunes memo spells this out explicitly, if you are looking for it) is for Title 1 authority directed at an individual. The NSA prepared a report for the FISA court that outlined abuses of Section 702 of Title 7, which was released in a heavily redacted form last year. The Nunes memo did not even mention Section 702 – that’s the NSA program that allows sweeping searches of emails, phone calls, etc. that are archived by the NSA.

    Think of the Nunes as the first batter in the first inning. Next up are Grassley and Goodlate of the Senate and House Judiciary Committees, then DOJ Inspector General Horowitz’s investigation. We will find out that Section 702 was weaponized by individuals within the FBI (including contractors who were given access) early in 2016, perhaps even late in 2015, to do opposition research. We know that the unmasking of the products and leaks to the press occurred. The question will be, how far up does the misuse of the intelligence community go? Did Obama know of the Section 702 authority being used to conduct domestic surveillance against the Republican candidate, long before the dossier was used to justify the Page warrant in September 2016?

    And I think we all know the answer to this, but was Trump the real target of the Page warrant, and did partisan Democrats within the FBI expand the scope of the Title 1 warrant to include the President-elect, perhaps even the sitting President?

    We are still in the 1st inning, folks.

Beating the bushes and finding women who, when they were in their teens and Mr. Moore was in his 30s, and his trying to make them the object of his affection, that is opposition research.     That is, what were the consequences of the approvals of internal spying by the FISA court?
    I have heard rumors that they led to opening interceptions of communications by the Trump campaign that included bugging Trump tower, and involved many more individuals. How many? Then there have been stories that there were hundreds of requests for information from these intercepts by members of the Obama administration, and that in his last days in office extended access to such information to a very wide part of the government.
    We have seen that the source of all this was unsavory. The consequences may be far worse.
    By the way, the manner in which the FBI behavior was conducted raises important questions about its role in government. These issues are so improtant that it was the duty of the FBI leaders to inform the congressional agencies responsible for FBI oversight about them. Yey they ;made considerable effort to conceal their behavior and ignore the congressional committees.
    This strongly suggests that these leaders were aware of their guilt and therefore acted with malice aforethought.

    We actually don’t know yet that it is untrue (where “it” is both “he is a Russian agent” and / or “the FBI made the claim” – it was only implied in the memo, SFAICT), although nothing leaked so far indicates serious evidence, and he hasn’t been charged (per the Democrats “no indictment” means “not guilty”).
    Until someone actually looks at the FISC applications, this is still moot. And the someone has to be credible; FBI, DOJ, and FISA just saying “trust us” doesn’t cut it anymore.

    A good point, and I certainly don’t know what the statues are on mandated oversight and pro-actively informing the committees.
    Just a note that, although all this alleged Russian interference and the investigations started in 2016, under the Obama administration, Republicans held a majority in both houses in 2015 & 2016 (thus headed any committees), so I can see why the Agencies didn’t want to bring up anything suggesting they were targeting Republicans (like, that would have been a big surprise after the IRS & Co.?), but they might actually have gotten some support in going after Trump if they had.
    In fact, they might indeed have had some GOP support, but NO ONE would have wanted that made public, especially after the Republican nomination was made.

    I think this is true, as is much of what President Trump (and candidate The Donald) have been doing all along: getting a conversation going where both sides are not implicitly playing by the assumptions on the Left.

    Of course it has flaws. It’s a sanitized version of a classified document. Any such document is going to have flaws and holes. Just look at the documents the DoJ/FBI or DoS releases to Congress. They are seriously redacted. Sometimes these documents are nothing more than a big black block concealing all the text on the page.

    Shapiro is a sharp guy. I don’t see how he doesn’t get that.
