Some on the left plead for the rioters to stop… — 17 Comments

  1. We have an ant-heap of partisan Democrats polluting our Facebook wall with their commentary. The next time I see one of them offer a principled objection to the violence will be the first. BTW, a disproportionate share of our Facebook friends are members of peace churches. I’ve long been congenial to that dispensation, but never took it very seriously. (Mennonites and Amish I respect; they’re not on social media). I’m taking it even less seriously now.

  2. We like to think of the media empires as being ideologically driven, but I wonder how true that is. I wonder if their public policy stances are geared toward payouts. So I am starting to wonder if we are now seeing a shift.

If the media empires have a foundation of capitalism, and if they are beginning to sense a decisive Trump victory, how would this translate? How does the worldview change with such an outcome? We have Brexit well underway and the EU is tottering a bit, and the leading stories from the Wonder Years – Climate Change, unfettered immigration, etc – are also losing their public appeal. Is the visionary future of a One-World-Order world starting to fade away?

Give it another couple of weeks. If a Trump post-convention lead starts to expand, watch to see if the media starts hedging its bets a little. They’ll still hate Trump, but now they have to worry about all those viewers that they’ve been so wrong about.

  3. I think a lot of them work from the Citizen Kane model:

Charles Foster Kane : You’re right, I did lose a million dollars last year. I expect to lose a million dollars this year. I expect to lose a million dollars *next* year. You know, Mr. Thatcher, at the rate of a million dollars a year, I’ll have to close this place in… 60 years.

They will continue to support what they support until they go broke but that may be a really long time.

How long can Bezos run the Washington Post?

  4. ““Shockingly high” at 36%? I would call that rather low under the circumstances. But as we know, a mind is a difficult thing to change.”

Well, to be just a bit optimistic, which is very hard for me, what if that 36% translates into 36% of the black vote? Much bigger than the usual 8%.

  5. What’s really going to shut down the riots is not what shows up in the “polling,” but what is now showing up in the cemeteries. 2 rioters killed in Kenosha last night. A 3rd wounded if I read the battle tally correctly. Citizens armed & prepared to push back the destroyers is where all this will come to an end. An ugly end…but it’ll stop if there are a few dozen more like that…Not how I thought the 21st century would play out, but maybe this 4th Turning is a bugger after all.

  6. Yes that 36% may wind up much less in the vote count: some conservative votes, some stay at home, some reluctant Prog votes. I’m hopeful this year we’ll see a crack in the wall though.

This is old, and unconvincing to non book learners: Trail of Tears under Dem Pres Jackson, slavery, Civil War launched by Dems, Jim Crow laws, lynching, KKK all Dems, segregation and Japanese internment camps under Dem government.

This is new and hopefully getting through: all these cities where the Black underclass lives in crime ridden poverty are controlled by Dems for generations with nary a Republican in sight.

  7. They detected a signal that is evidence of protesting… rioting with ideological (i.e. principled) support is a first-order forcing of catastrophic anthropogenic political climate change (CAPCC).

  8. Trail of Tears under Dem Pres Obama…

Iraq War 2.0 or the greater Middle East War, Arab Spring, Social Justice Adventures, and quid pro Joes and Bos, and, of course, catastrophic anthropogenic immigration reform (CAIR) in their woke… wake backed by left of center special, peculiar, religious, political, and commercial interests, too.

  9. These are not protestors, these are despotic revolutionaries
Forcing people to hold up their fists in restaurants or they are racist is akin to having Nazi’s march around and force people to heil hitler…
Same exact thing and exactly what happened back then… exactly…
or did you think the majority of Germans were for all that and gladly did so?
if you did, then you are quite foolish as most people just want to avoid things and hope the alligator will eat others first… ergo their putting signs in windows… they do not get that the signs dont work because they are Kulaks… and Kulaks who tried to do that in the past are worse than those that resisted in the eyes of such revolutionary peoples.

  10. Artfldgr:

I’ve written many posts about how the Nazis came to power and what they did to anyone who might be dissenting.

One example here. I recommend that book highly. It’s dry, but it’s very very chilling and very informative.

I also wrote about the book here as well as here. From the latter:

[The author] illuminates how daily life changed post 1933 for the average person. How the Nazi party stopped caring about what people wanted to hear and started becoming a top down organization. The nature of social discourse changed fundamentally. Instead of social activities being undertaken voluntarily and because they were fun and of interest to the participants, everything became to be centered on Nazism. As clubs and organizations were Nazified, most disappeared as people stopped having fun at them and began resenting being forced to do things. Block leaders were avoided, heil Hitlers were done unenthusiastically or not done at all, people stopped talking to each other as much and some even stopped going out altogether except when they had to attend party events. Resentment bloomed as capable people were replaced by incompetents and thieves merely because they were long time party members. Allen really gives you a good sense of how daily life became stifling post ’33.

  11. For the leftist establishment that horse might have already bolted. If you do a web search for “black lives matter corporate funding” you will find that they have enough funds to go on. Plus why should they listen to the chattering classes?

  12. If 36% is only half way realistic it is a game changer. I can’t remember any GOP presidential candidate topping 8%.

  13. Although I desperately want Trump to win and fear a Biden win, I have some more skin in the game. People have called me/accused me of the vilest things, and the same to millions of people like me–which includes me. I want them punished by a soul-crushing defeat.

  14. Every Republican speaker at the RNC should point out that if you are a law-abiding citizen in a state with a Democrat Governor, or a city with a Democrat Mayor, you are expendable!

Democrats and their media lackeys don’t worry about stopping violence that is hurting YOU… they want violence to stop only when it starts hurting THEM.

  15. Richard Aubrey: “People have called me/accused me of the vilest things…”

I know how that feels. Be that Republican that criticizes how Donald Trump acts on a conservative forum…one a conservative should feel at home on…(WHEW!) Let me tell you!

There are some who think Trump should do more to stop the rioting but after the response to having federal LEA protecting the Federal courthouse in Portland, I agree he should wait until the leftist Mayors and Governors as for help. Id like them to stand up and acknowledge responsibility for squashing the lawlessness rather than having the luxury of kicking back and allowing Trump to take the full burden of accusations of hard-handed police state policies. id also continue to point this out, hold a presser and tell the nation why he cant respond with more force and encourage people in blue states to vote for more responsible leadership.

If the answer for how to protect free speech more free speech, the answer to how to protect democracy must be more democracy.

  16. Are there any national black leaders left? In another time, they would be calling for calm. Oh wait….are these rioters black or white? Is this BLM or Antifa? I can’t keep up.
