Senator Hawley takes a page out of Alinsky and asks the Democrats to live up to Rule #4
What’s Alinsky’s Rule 4? “”Make the enemy live up to its own book of rules.”
Even though the Democrats are historically the party of slavery (some would argue it’s the party of ideological slavery today, and I don’t disagree), and the Republicans are historically the anti-slavery party, one of the weird facts of modern life is that this has gotten turned around in many people’s minds. And these days, through mechanisms such as the 1619 Project and the anti-racist movement, the Democrats have been pushing the idea that America was founded on slavery and that it is still very active in our mental lives.
And so it’s certainly of interest that GOP Senator Josh Hawley is pointing out an inconvenient truth, and asking the Democrats to join him in challenging the modern-day slave labor used by China and through which many American companies profit:
American corporations like @NBA and @Nike and others should not be profiting off forced, slave labor. I am introducing legislation to require multinationals to certify that they don’t use slave labor – or face penalties https://t.co/sIPi06ayd4
— Josh Hawley (@HawleyMO) July 20, 2020
The [press release from Hawley] also reminds us, “At least 80 global companies have been tied to forced Uighur labor in China, from sportswear companies like Nike, Adidas, and Puma to tech giants like Lenovo and Samsung.”…
Hawley’s bill — aimed liked a laser at both Communist China and our own “progressive” big businesses — calls the Left to account while rallying patriots sick of getting ripped off by China.
It will be interesting to see whether this bill gets anywhere.
Not likely to get anywhere, but the issue will be raised and it’s another embarrassment to progressives, had they any shame. But pointing out to them that normal humans, unlike progressives, would be horrified might be useful. To discredit them, say. Fair’s fair, right Saul?
Our Democratic Left wants and seeks the power the CCP has to oppress disbelievers like the Uighurs, Falun Gong and the freedom-inclined in Hong Kong. Big Corporation USA, especially the Progressive Corporations like Nike and Apple, are right in bed with the Chinese.
Reminds me of Krupp Steel and the Nazis. But I believe Lenovo is China-owned, with HQ in Beijing.
Our future is gray, not bright.
Yes, Tibet is already majority Han and minority Tibetan. Now Xinjiang is on the same path. Ethnic cleansing, really, with Uighurs on their way to being a minority in their own country … while US leftists wail about the fate of Native Americans a couple centuries ago.
Still unless/until the Muslim nations stand up and protest you can’t expect America to take a leading role. Uighurs have been found on battlefields shooting at Americans, after all.
My goodness, though, I want a Repub Party that 95% Hawley and 5% Mitt, not the other way ’round!
As a bill, nowhere fast. But it’s still a good idea.
Our side isn’t very good at Alinsky tactics. A few boycotts have worked, but too many don’t realize that doing it a lot is a pain and a drag. Aside from the fact there are too many woke companies to keep track of, it’s a real pain to change banks, for instance. (I have dropped Amazon.)
OTOH, buying Goya is easy.
Rule 4 of Alinsky, indeed.
That’s why in my proposed CWII campaign, we focus our rage against the Red fascist Democrats. Let’s hold them responsible for owning people in chattel slavery, for KKKlan domestic terrorism, and treason against the Great Republic, TWICE.
Collective guilt is deeply unAmerican. But if we are going to have New Rules for a greater remedy for evils and injustice, then we must keep going.
Let’s hold those bastards accountable for their crimes and eliminate them.

I think the comparisons of the “legacy” of American slavery to actual slavery are going to be unwelcome. Legacy is hard to quantify, while the disadvantages or torture are pretty easily seen.
How about some reparations for the legacy of Communism?
Plenty of people ought to be eligible, and we can tax all the Socialists to pay for it.
