Reaction to Obama’s jobs speech
Well, Obama finally kept the promise he’s been making for years and focused like a laser on jobs—at least, in his speech last night to Congress and the nation.
Reaction varies. There’s commenter “West” from this blog:
I’ll Summarize ”“ Pass the bill I haven’t written yet so I can spend 450 billion dollars we don’t have, and if you oppose this , you hate babies and Grandma. And Lincoln built the Transcontinental railroad or something.
With Paul Krugman, you can never get enough stimulus. He cries for madder music and stronger wine (and, of course, for an end to Republican contrariness):
O.K., about the Obama plan: It calls for about $200 billion in new spending ”” much of it on things we need in any case, like school repair, transportation networks, and avoiding teacher layoffs ”” and $240 billion in tax cuts. That may sound like a lot, but it actually isn’t.
Michael Barone notes Obama’s mood—angry and buck-passing:
He bitterly assailed one straw man after another and made reference to a grab bag of proposals which would cost something on the order of $450 billion””assuring us on the one hand that they all had been supported by Republicans as well as Democrats in the past and suggesting that somehow they are going to turn the economy around…Obama assured us that this would all be paid for. But as far as I could gather, he punted that part of it to the supercommittee of 12 members set up under the debt ceiling bill. He now blithely charges it with coming up with more than its current goal of $1.5 trillion in savings by Christmas. Oh, and he’s going to announce “a more ambitious deficit plan” that will “stabilize our debt in the long run”–11 days from now.
In the meantime, he called for higher taxes on “a few of the most affluent citizens”””as if this could pay for all the spending he’s been backing.
The AP, of all things, agrees with Barone about whether Obama’s proposals will pay for themselves.
Republicans such as Cantor concede that they plan to pass some of Obama’s proposals such as trade agreements, small business relief measures, and revamped unemployment insurance. Many Democratic pundits label this as a slight change from Republicans’ former intransigence and lack of cooperation, and as a conciliatory gesture. Call me naive, but I think that at least some of this agreement by Republicans is because these proposals are actually moves that they think will help the economy; after all, it’s not all about Obama and cooperating with or opposing him.
Democrats may believe that Republican “concessions” on these points would amount to a victory for Obama. I agree. But I also sense that most voters wonder (as I do) why Obama waited so very long and took so many detours along the way. In addition, I don’t see why a certain amount of Republican “cooperation” wouldn’t be seen as a victory for Republicans as well.
[NOTE: Here’s the text of Obama’s speech for those of you who want to catch up with what was said.]
West:
That was a great comment…one of the best I’ve ever seen on a blog.
Public opinion, like concrete, takes a while to harden, but once hardened takes a sledge hammer to remove. The public opinion about Obama’s credibility has past from the slurry stage to the “you better write you name in it before it gets to hard” stage. That opinion, for Obama, ain’t good.
Obama, the goofon (that’s goof plus goon), is still dangerous and will require, like a wild cat, more than a “shew, shew, go away.”
screw the speech here is the act the speech presents
http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/interactive/2011/sep/09/american-jobs-act
the speech means nothing, the act and such is everything in terms of why he is there.
he can say in his speech that its going to rain .
dribbles of tribbles…
but the act can say all kinds of things that give meaning to his bs in the speech (or not)
i noticed that some are commenting that the act was “ginned up” in the back halls… personally its looking more like ripple in an alleyway… go boones farms…
Pass the bill I haven’t written yet..
ARRGGGHHHH…
the proposal for the act in the speech was written before he gave the speech. if you look it was prevented from being published till AFTER the speech. which then i made sure that it was in the threads.
why is law irrelevant but a speech guiding you to it is everything is beyond me…
in fact… talking about the freaking speech means we are refusing to look at the act that will end up being implemented in some form.
whatever you do dont listen to me, that would blow the magic trick and the endorphin laden discussion afterwards as to how it was done..
speeches are irrelevant…
(including articles titled Obamas irrelevant speech)
Paul Krugman is starting to remind me of the crazed pot smoker playing the piano in the original reefer madness…
Pure speculation on my part, but considering how wonderfully fair the media treated Republicans with the debt ceiling debate – calling them cannibals, zombies, suicide bombers, terrorists, Hezbollah Republicans, etc. — I suspect the Republicans probably took some heat when they went back to their districts during the recess.
So, they’re probably under some pressure to be more cooperative even if it’s lousy policy. I even heard Leader Eric Cantor say in an interview, “the president needs a win” — then he realized how that sounded and quickly following that with, “and the American people need a win”. So, yes, I think they’re going to compromise and pass some stuff that they are not overly thrilled with but that find marginally acceptable.
They don’t want to be known as cannibals and zombies, so why not look like choir boys and help the president resurrect his presidency now that he’s printing the worst job approval numbers of his term?
They’re called The Stupid Party for a reason.
Democrats may believe that Republican “concessions” on these points would amount to a victory for Obama. I agree…..
“It would be the greatest mistake, certainly, to think that concessions mean peace. Nothing of the kind. Concessions are nothing but a new form of war.” Vladimir Ilyich Ulyanov First Leader of the Soviet Union
“The war made possible for us the solution of a whole series of problems that could never have been solved in normal times.” Joseph Paul Goebbels

Obama, the spammer-in-chief, strikes again after jobs speech
http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/44/post/obama-the-spammer-in-chief-strikes-again-after-jobs-speech/2011/09/08/gIQA0ZbxDK_blog.html
why so many? the big lie
“If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.” Joseph Paul Goebbels
A state of war only serves as an excuse for domestic tyranny.
Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn
Communism is the death of the soul. It is the organization of total conformity – in short, of tyranny – and it is committed to making tyranny universal.
Adlai E. Stevenson
Dictatorship naturally arises out of democracy, and the most aggravated form of tyranny and slavery out of the most extreme liberty.
Plato
I shall earnestly and persistently continue to urge all women to the practical recognition of the old Revolutionary maxim. Resistance to tyranny is obedience to God.

E. H. Carr
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E._H._Carr
the pre-1914 world was
“…solid and stable. Prices did not change. Incomes, if they changed, went up…It was a good place, and it was getting better. This country was leading it by the right direction. There were no doubt, abuses, but they were being, or would be, dealt with”
“The pseudo-Marxist is a pathetic figure. He knows that Marxism is moonshine, but he still nourishes the hope of finding in it a gleam to follow.”
Speaking of the differences between the fascist regimes and the Soviet Union, Carr wrote:
“the only difference between the so-called “dictatorship of the proletariat” and the dictatorships which prefer to hoist other flags is that the one proclaims its Marxist paternity whereas the others deny it.”
and read carefully this, and think hard on “equality”
“I do not believe the time is ripe…for the establishment of a super-national force to maintain order in the international community and I believe any scheme by which nations should bind themselves to go to war with other nations for the preservation of peace is not only impracticable, but retrograde”
and the EU born in 1940:
and
“Human suffering he seems to say, is not a historical factor; Carr belongs to those very cold people who always believe they think and act with the iciest calculation and therefore fail to understand why they are mistaken in their calculations time and time again” Franz Borkenau
so does Obama…
for if not, the people he associated with all his life would abhor him for their methods to ideals
i guess too much obscuranta towards events.
soddy….
Obama gave another speech and the markets tanked. That’s all you need to know.
BHO’s speech was silly. A ‘holiday’ on FICA taxes sends less money to the scared cows of Social Security & Medicare which means without cuts to these programs more money will be borrowed to fund them. His other proposals for tax breaks are even beyond silly. Businesses don’t hire new workers for a $4,000 tax break, they hire new workers because they need new workers. Next on his list is new spending for more “jobs created or saved” nonsense and shovel ready projects that aren’t shovel ready which means even more borrowing.
In other words the FY 2012 deficit won’t be in the neighborhood of $1.4 trillion, it will be somewhere around $1.8 trillion. Sounds like a Grecian Formula to me.
Yeah, Mr. Frank. Bad effects his words now have, but the acts of the Dems and POS, er, POTUS, continue essentially unchecked, and they are ever so much worse.
We now await the Fed’s dropping shoe 9/21, which will try again to hurry us down the inflationary path, when a period of deflationary realism is what is truly needed. As long as deflationary necessity is fought off by monstrous deficits and monetary inflation, both intentional, the worse it will eventually be. Like Germany in the 1920s, we will face societal devastation.
There’s nothing that’s too big to fail, the USA included..
Parker — I don’t know if your phrase “the scared cows of Social Security & Medicare” was just an unintentional typo for what was meant to be “sacred cows” or an intentional and inspired transposition — but either way, I love it! If they aren’t scared, they certainly should be.
Of course, cuts in Social Security and Medicare taxes mean that those programs will blow up even sooner. Sounds like Cloward-Piven again.
Mrs Whatsit,
It wasn’t a typo, it was my attempt at a play on words. And, we all should be scared. We are all now passengers on a ship of fools. The global economy will collapse (6 months, 1 or 3 years) into the land of the over leveraged. Think S&L defaults of the late 80s, early 90s times 10E15. Too big to fail is actually too big to save; including sovereign states.
rickl,
BHO is operating straight out of the C-P play book. BTW, isn’t it interesting that a person like Beck (who seems very weird to me) is often much closer to understanding reality than the POTUS?
Parker:
Oh, POTUS understands reality, all right. He just has different ends in mind than we do.
art, your B.O. spammer-in-chief link was revealing. Another attempt to convey consensus. ie The economic issues are settled; act now to save planet Obama.
Got to give them credit. The ship is sinking, but they’re bailling as fast as they can. Gonna make the USS Hope and Change seaworthy again. Yes they can!
This bill is no different than Obamacare. He was out selling it all over the country when he had no idea what was really in it. As Pelosi said, “We will have to pass the bill to find out what’s in it.” Prolly the same applies here. I heard a young Congressman on Hannity’s show tonight who said he hoped to be able to read the bill before they vote. I hope so too. They will try to jam this one through. Thank God the Repubs are in control in the House. May have some chance of getting the details out before the propaganda machine begins demonizing the Repubs.
The TEA party in my town will be marching to commemorate 9/11 this Sunday. We’ll probably have a few “Stop the Spending” signs though.
I’m writing my Senators and Rep. asking that they read the bill and quit thowing money into the maw of public sector unions.
I agree, it is C-P strategy. But the strategy appears to be a world wide phenom now.
Nothing has happened since this man was elected that wasn’t expected by the majority of regular readers of this blog. How do we change words into action? How are so many fooled? The frog in the pot of water is all that makes sense to me, as far as an explanation.
It’s not going to be easy, it’s not going to be pretty. Although they are already begun, things are going to occur in this nation that no one thought possible. The destructive damage and violence will come from the left, as has already been shown.
I admit Beck is a little tough to take because of his delivery and personality glitches…..but is he wrong? Overall, and unfortunately…..no.
How do we change words into action? How are so many fooled?
been explaining and telling you guys where the books are, what to read, who to read, who started it, who is in it deep, and so on.
i figured when its too late THEN people will start asking those questions rather than ignore the answers before the question because you thought you would never ask it.
here is a hint why its global
INTERNATIONAL socialism survived world war II, and NATIONAL socialism overtly disappeared and went low
i can go so far back and quote the soviets comments (the us will have a crisis of self) during bush and the world bank break in…the internet cables cut
most of the time, i keep trying to point out stuff, but most of the time people WANT to be distracted and not have to deal with it
so its WAY past the event horizon to act, organize, etc… believing back when obama was still a candidate and even before it by opposing feminism
which was their most successful arm of social modification – despite real study after real study showing the harm and ladies not wanting to hear that, but siding with advocate lysenkoist type work.
if men were in families, and mothers with kids, the kids would not have grown up ready to embrace stalin…
its that simple. i even showed you that they tried that at home, it nearly destroyed them, and they halted it, THEN promoted it in the west through progressive communist/socialists
i can show you the whole progression… names, dates. etc.
but when us guys tried to say stuff, tried to do stuff, we lost our families, were marginalizd, told we needed to get laid, women haters, and on it goes.
bed
see bed
lie in bed
not much to do once its too late
you know, like the horror movies, who is the character that is most withdrawn from reality, and who causes more deaths because of it?

as i said
WE LOVE OUR CANCER
and so will not get rid of the desease (among other lesser ones)
and so, will die of it and become someting else AS IT WAS DESIGNED TO DO SOCIALLY… (including genocide)
this is why the leaders here claim its all part of this soviet utopia they want and talk about, right about, have meetings, give the special signals to, etc
meanwhile, in soviet living where is feminism? where is chinese feminism? where is cuban feminism? you would think that if this is soviet, as with kolontai and easy divorce, abortion, sex education, and so on…
they woudl have it..
but they dont… they know how toxic it is, and if your not friends, you deliver toxic ideas ot the enemy in palatable form. the rest is social destruction and denument of manufacturing, education, social ability to group up, inability to function out of the cage, etc.
a fight is coming as i said 5 years ago
its almost here… they will not let the opportunity of dumbo the idiot calling the shots for a war… and wait 100 more years
so yes. its happening globally
and since we are all linked, there is not another lender to fund our defense.
“The threat of environmental crisis will be the ‘international disaster key’ that will unlock the New World Order.” — Mikhail Gorbachev, quoted in “A Special Report: The Wildlands Project Unleashes Its War On Mankind”, by Marilyn Brannan, Associate Editor, Monetary & Economic Review, 1996, p. 5
global warming?
“Gentlemen, comrades, do not be concerned about all you hear about Glasnost and Perestroika and democracy in the coming years. They are primarily for outward consumption. There will be no significant internal changes in the Soviet Union, other than for cosmetic purposes. Our purpose is to disarm the Americans and let them fall asleep.” — Mikhail Gorbachev
now you guys are waking up…
but its really too late
as you cant fix the kids who cant function and cant even use military equipment which is mostly designed for not too bright as a minumum… (not cause they are dumb, so that people can switch without needing training in a clinch and such)
beck is not wrong
and he is not fully telling stuff either
if you think yo dont like him now
you would like him less if he said more
ie…
your socially programmed to regject and dislike anyone that implies or states the truth and not the pc correct such.
as i said.. its soviet…
politically correct is party mentality
oh, and if you study and do, it was feminism that started it and wedged it in place with that silly stuff on manhold covers, mail men to mail persons…
each point established they controlled the outcome, and the more crap was let them to decide and diktate, the more we normalized them dictating.. and that went with schools, kids, disenfranchising boys, etc.
we dont have a society worldwide where fighting is not needed…
but now you have defenders who dont want to defend as there is no home fire for them!
every point of modern society that changed since the 60s all converge like chess pieces to dismantle the reason stalin and hitler as friends could not win..
now with it dismantled, the workers dumbed down and cant be smarted up, they can get along, there is no lenders, the main fighers are genocided to low births and lots of elderly, and we have cultures in here in quantities enough to masacre others ant take land and call it their own. evne the military will not know what to fight
and notice the police were slowly changed from the nice cop of the west to the paramilitary police of soviet life?
searches like nazi germany are common and we are already trained to submit…
so now your waking up…
good.
your a bit faster than eli weisel who wok up only when he closed the door on his wife so she went to the gas chamber…
shall i show you the black national socialists who are calling for a second holocaust and extermination of the white race? (and when we are gone, what will the chinese do?)
like a person who is about to find themselves in check mate in 3 moves…
there is no way out, you will realize in hindsight, and the game is over no matter waht you do (otherwise you would not normally notice)…
a predator does not let the prey know until its too late or they have no other choice.
now your waking up to the predator bearing down on us…
but as i said way back 5 years ago, and even used german words that TODAY pundits are explaining (glieckshaltung?)…
the immigrant families who experienced it never went to sleep… but if they said stuff, did you guys believe us? no… which is why we sit quietly waiting and watching and not believing how stupid… and amazed at how they defend their betrayers and attack the people who could inform them, and marginalizeing them…
so they shut up..
i cant even tell you the half of it…
no one will listen until its even farther along, and by then, i hope they dont know i know anything…
I made sure that, as Obama requested, I contacted my congresscritter and senators (all of them hard left democrats) and told them how I feel about this proposal. I also emailed the White House. Here’s what I said….
I am opposed to any further stimulus spending, and I’m opposed to the President’s recently proposed jobs bill. I do not feel it is in the economic interests of the country to go another 450 billion dollars in debt, when we are already 15 trillion in debt.
Tom
If any of you would like, you’re more than welcome to borrow it. i suggest we each contact our representatives and let them know how we feel. After all, that IS what the president asked us to do…no?
Got to give them credit. The ship is sinking, but they’re bailling as fast as they can. Gonna make the USS Hope and Change seaworthy again. Yes they can!
Maybe if we all clap in unison? Hey, it saved Tinkerbell!
Way to go, Tom. My reps are all hard left as well, but they need to know there is opposition.
