Biden up, Steyer out
The Democratic primary voters of South Carolina have spoken and Biden has won a resounding victory there.
I can’t quite imagine voting for someone as addled as Joe. But then again, consider the alternatives. Bernie Sanders came in a distant second, and Steyer is taking his marbles and going home.
Fifty-five percent of South Carolina voters in this primary were black. That’s a very different demographic than in the previous primary states.
Now, on to Super Tuesday. Here are the forecasts from FiveThirtyEight, with a chart. Sanders is heavily favored, with strong showings predicted for Biden and – of all people – Bloomberg (587 for Sanders, 305 for Biden, and 211 for Bloomberg, with the rest left behind in a cloud of dust).
But that FiveThirtyEight article was written on February 26, before tonight. Will Biden get that old-fashioned Joementum?
I consider Dems more of a herd than a pack
Seems to me that the herd has gotten the ABB message! (Anybody But Bernie)
Biden is so obviously senile (at least under the stress of campaigning), the Democrats are going to have to think very seriously about a VP if he wins the nomination.
If South Carolina propels Biden to the nomination and he gets curb stomped by Trump in November, will ANYONE question the wisdom of letting such a demographically unrepresentative state have such influence in the primary process?
Mike
He can always chose Stacey Abrams—as a gentlemanly quid pro quo-ish gesture towards SC’s neighbor to the south? (Though as “governor” of Georgia she might not be available….)
On the other hand, AOC might well be out of a job come November. As a gesture of pure empathy (and/or sheer idiocy), Biden might pick her as a running mate, well, stumbling mate. Yes, Age balanced by Youth! XY by XX! Feebleness by Vigor! Lily White by POC! Dementia by Derangement! Senility by Stupidity!
Can’t get more balanced—or DIVERSE—than that (though, horrors, they might verily lose the Trans/non-binary vote. Well, so be it.).
Yes, the perfect Dem ticket!….
(The B-Bros might be less than pleased, of course; but they can always run riot in the great “catch-and-release” state of NY. Oregon, too, is big on turning a blind eye to the “correct” kind of violence. California, as well. There must surely be others….)
Congrats, Joe Biden!
Third (?) presidential run, first finish higher than fourth place and, importantly, first win.

Someone suggested in a forum like this that black American consumer culture tends to be conservative and brand-loyal, and this generates an advantage for familiar names. Biden also has a particular association with Obama the others lack and has not heretofore been an antagonist of the Clintons in any obtrusive way (which Sanders has).
Lily White by POC! Dementia by Derangement! Senility by Stupidity!
AOC is white. made up new categories are BS, her family were Inquisitors and Conquistadors
Well, yes, she might indeed by a Caucasian…but she’s a POC (by popular acclaim?). I mean, if Elizabeth Warren can be Chief-ette Laffing Stalk, why can’t AOC be POC?
AOC could always say she’s green, I suppose. Hmmm.
OK, let’s compromise. Let’s call her a POP (Person of Pigment).
On the other hand, I suppose we’re all POPs (but no doubt some are more POP than others…. Proof of this, of course, is Michael Jackson, who during his too-short life was POPping all over the place.)
AOC is too young to be President, thus too young to be Vice President.

Roughly speaking. I think the mean ancestry in Puerto Rico is something along the lines of 65% caucasoid, 20% negroid, and 15% Amerindian. The family saw some lean years after her father died. Prior to that, they were professional class, though not particularly affluent among that set. She grew up in an exurban township on the northern extremity of Westchester County, in a rather nondescript ranch house. My upper working class cousins grew up one township to the west of AOC’s and one of their children is living in her home township right now. That she attended an out-of-state private university and followed an academic course of study indicates she got quite a deal (or that her family is quite impractical).
“…too young…”
Well, OK. But recall that the Democrats are the Party of remaking the rules (and doing their best to ignore what they can’t quite remake).
Since we know that they want to kiss the Electoral College good-bye, send the Constitution packing, give non-citizens the vote several times over (and let’s not forget the “rights” of the deceased), and redefine the meaning of non-partisan (and the whole concept of Truth for that matter) then it would be a small step for Dem-kind to lower the age limit of anyone they might want to for any reason. Or at least try.
(As we speak, I believe they’re working hard to lower the voting age to 12—if the “Mean Girls” characteristics of their banal debates is anything to go by—thus ensuring that they at least have a fighting chance in November. Gotta admire their persistence….)
Carville predicts Klobberheremployees and Mayor Pete will be out by Wed.
Dems are selecting all white, all male and all old.
55% of voting Dems were black, and they voted for a demonstrably demented Biden, linked to Obama though not supported by him as best I can determine.
What choice did those voters have? A gay wife? A hedge fund billionaire? a socialist? Or a demented fool?
They made the best choice open to them.
I’ll be working as an election official on Tuesday, so I’ll check in here to see what’s what after I get home. So far, NC turnout is way down. We have no idea if they’ll all vote on Tuesday, or won’t bother coming out in the rain.
Speculation on who would run as VP with either Biden or Bernie is fun! In either case, the person might end up as president given the frailty of the head of the ticket.

So you are suggesting … Hillary? Seems made to order for her.
If it’s Hillary, Joe had better employ a food taster before every meal.
Yep, MJR. Anyone with Hillary as VP can expect an unexpected event.
Joe’s only mission is to stop Bernie from a first ballot victory. Hillary or Michelle will then get the nomination. Massive payoff to the Bidens.
Hillary or Michelle will then get the nomination.
I think Marie of Roumania is about as likely to be nominated.
Buttigieg is reportedly out. From “winning” the Iowa caucuses to ending his campaign the Sunday before Super Tuesday. If it wasn’t obvious he was metaphorically getting his palm greased to theoretically help Biden, that would be one of the more impressive flameouts in American politics.
Mike
Abrams — isn’t she the Governor of Somewhere, or would be if she hadn’t been robbed?
And they laughed at Sarah Palin — who actually was a governor, and a pretty darn good one.
GOP was so busy shooting themselves in the foot in 2008 the Dems didn’t have to do much to help, and now the shoe’s on the other foot, so to speak.
Mayor Pete is now gone too.
Hayward at PowerLine blog on Biden’s age
“Do you realize that Buttigieg can run for president again for the next 40 years and still be younger than Joe Biden is today?”
However:
“… Joe Biden is now the youngest man in the Democratic field”
Anyway, that aside, the field is shaking out rapidly.
Mayor Pete is likely to get MANY votes in CA due to early mail in ballots.
@Aesopfan: Biden-Clinton 2020! Vote for Hillary without voting for Hillary!
clown car Dem nomination updates … will there really be HR Clinton under oath?
