New York’s get out of jail free card
De Blasio’s New York is bending over backward to be kind to criminal suspects:
Brooklyn trouble magnet who dodged bail in an anti-Semitic assault over the weekend — only to be busted a day later in another alleged attack — walked free again on Monday courtesy of new bail-reform laws.
Tiffany Harris’ dizzying tour of the criminal-justice system saw her back in Brooklyn Criminal Court for the second time in three days, after she allegedly slugged a woman in the face in front of the victim’s two young children in Prospect Heights on Sunday.
But the encore appearance had a similar outcome to her arraignment just a day earlier for allegedly slapping three Orthodox Jewish women in Crown Heights on Friday while yelling, “F-U, Jews.”
Handcuffed by the state’s soft-on-crime bail-reform laws — which technically don’t take effect until Jan. 1 — prosecutors noted Harris’ déjà vu appearance, but could ask for no more than supervised release…
Despite her alleged bashing spree, her low-level raps are not eligible for bail under the incoming laws, which prosecutors and courts across the city have been implementing ahead of time.
The laws also prohibit holding without bail those accused only of misdemeanors, even if the suspect appears to pose a future danger to the community…
The “revolving-door” justice afforded Harris — who has 13 total arrests in the city, most for assault — at a time when officials are vowing crackdowns on hate crimes also troubled some in law-enforcement.
Here’s a companion piece about Grafton Thomas, the man who is charged with the machete attack on a group of Orthodox Jews:
According to the Washington Post, Thomas has been arrested at least seven times since 2001, on offenses that include assault, resisting arrest, killing or injuring a police animal, driving while under the influence, possessing controlled substances, and menacing a police or peace officer. He appears to have received a jail sentence only for a 2013 arrest for possession of a controlled substance. In a properly functioning criminal justice system, a repeat offender thug like Thomas would have been behind bars and unable to attack anyone this month.
Daniel Horowitz says “there are thousands upon thousands of people like Thomas throughout the country who are repeat violent offenders and barely serve time in prison.”
[NOTE: I plan a future post sometime on New York’s new bail restrictions.]
When crime isn’t punished, you get more crime. Can anyone be really surprised at the result of not punishing crime?
“Low-level … Not eligible for bail.” I had assumed that at least a claim of poverty was required, but no.
Maybe we should tax criminals to get out of jail, instead of asking for bail.
As Mark Steyn puts it, we are becoming too stupid to survive.
Even a guy assaulting a Cop was let go. Wonder what the long term reaction by the police in the street will be? Nothing pretty I would imagine.
If police are not allowed to protect, vigilantism will result.
Just a matter of when.
This is also happening at a time when the left is working overtime to strip law abiding citizens of their right to defend themselves.

Time to bring back the Bernhard Goetz slogan: “You don’t look too bad. Here’s another.”
I posted her actions on the thread about the antisemitism..

which is what they want… but be hard for that to happen given one group tends to attack in groups… which is why, when they discuss federal stats, they do not include multiple people category… as the 1 on 1 category is smaller comparatively
they also seem to be much more violent, with stomping on a head of people who are down, or give up as a very common thing. when i was growing up in the slum, i knew never to quit for that reason, but to keep going till you were dead or it was over..
and its not just the US… the left has homogenized the west

I heard some talking head complaining about this current state of affairs in NY. It was punctuated by the remark that DeBlasio gives Gift Cards to those recently released from detention.!
Here’s what happens with the gift cards.
Everybody who is surprised, raise your hands.
https://amgreatness.com/2019/12/30/new-york-city-taxpayer-dollars-going-to-ex-prisoners-buying-alcohol-juul-pods/
The cards are being given to the ex-prisoners as part of a citywide initiative intended to help them transition back into normal life, giving them two $25 gift cards. But employees of city liquor stores and other similar shops have said that this has only led to an influx of purchases of alcohol, juul pods, and tobacco from these former inmates.
Some store owners have explicitly refused to sell alcohol to such cardholders, for fear that the cards may bounce due to having no chips in them. Others have noticed that hardly a single cardholder has used them to purchase something useful such as food.
The initiative, set up by Mayor and failed presidential candidate Bill de Blasio (D-N.Y.), is part of the larger bail reform law set up earlier this year. Such prisoners are also being given Metrocards for the city’s public transportation, and may also soon be rewarded with burner phones upon release. The entire handout program costs approximately $500,000, and comes from “city-funded non-profits.”
A spokesman for de Blasio’s office defended the handouts, claiming that it was providing the inmates with “essential resources needed to survive,” and that this would “ensure the safety of themselves and others,” as well as maintain “our status as the safest big city in America.”
“NOTE: I plan a future post sometime on New York’s new bail restrictions.“
I’m just super excited about the bail restrictions. I got a front row seat to that sh1t show. It’s going get very messy.
“If police are not allowed to protect, vigilantism will result.
Just a matter of when.”
I’m sure anyone accused of vigilantism will NOT be let go and will indeed spend years and years in jail without bail before ever seeing a judge, and then convicted for years and years in prison without parole.
Can’t have people usurping the power of the government, you know…
Straight out of the leftie playbook: create division and crisis, then use it politically.
It was the left that:
Closed the mental hospitals.
Began the normalization of drug use
Began the mainstreaming of sexual deviance
Hacked away at family and community
Now they are using the result to create a general climate of fear and isolation. This invites fearful citizens to go along with gun control and other ‘protections’.
This is just more of the same. Like illegal immigration. Like calls for reparations and blaming the victims to protect “preferred” ethnic groups.
The big difference is that they no longer really hide their hatred for normal America. Cries of racism are so frequent and so tenuous that no one is convinced.
