Is it racist to say…
…that the Chinese are really really really good at this sort of thing?
I can’t say I like it better than the original version, but I’m certainly in awe of it:

Truth is a complete defense. Just go to any Cirque du Soleil performance and see who are the people doing the unreal acrobatics. They’re all tiny Asian athletes.
More fit to a cheer of “brekekekex koax koax” I guess, than a swan’s trumpeting.
So, swan. Hmmm.
There’s Orff’s “Olim Iacus Colueram”, #12 from the “Carmina Burana”, about the oven roasted swan singing his miseries as he’s poised to be served up to dinner guests.

Also, gone from us recently Joao Gilberto, whose “O Pato” has a duck, a merganser, a swan kicking up a samba dance, and a tico-tico scoffing from the sidelines, I think.

I linked that when you made the four little swans post. It works amazingly well.
Chuck:
Actually, I would have preferred the frogs to jump more.
And a goose! Sorry! Duck, merganser, goose and swan.
> I would have preferred the frogs to jump more.
The jumps were great, so frog like. The costumes were also well done.
Of course it is, by today’s standards.
But that is an amazing display of physical skill and mastery.
Makes a nice change from Woke Whitey staging The Marriage of Figaro in a SF Bathhouse set and calling it Art, etc. ad nauseam.
Re the physicality: it helps to have a gene pool of 1.2B+ to select from… And there is a massive state-run 100% meritocratic selection program for any and all kinds of athletic / cultural talents.
Plenty of things not to like about China (trust me, I kind of live in the neighbourhood), but good territory for a budding young Steinway salesman. David Goldman has commented muchly on this.
Marius Petipa would not be amused…..
Bear in mind, Jackie Chan came up through the Peking Opera School. Oddly enough, I’ve never heard him sing.
Neo… yes everything is racist to say these days (which you already know) … & that said, Lev Ivanov would probably roll over in his grave if he saw this thing.. or else burst his bubble laughing.. Swan Lake is coming to Eugene in Jan. & already have our tickets – Can’t wait for the “little swans” … for a little burg – the Eugene Ballet Company is very very good, and growing – a beautiful new studio being built now for the combined orchestra and ballet, academy, and performance companies.. with it’s own parking garage … nobody has a parking garage in Eugene! (my grand-daughter is coming up thru the ranks – looking forward to seeing her on the main stage) Kimo
*gasp*
😉
Actually, I like Les Ballets du Trockadero version better:

Neo,
It’s racist for any white person (Jews usually included) to say anything. If they’re a white Buddhist, it probably racist to not say anything.
For the same reason they are really good gymnasts. Physiology matters.
Bill M…now that was funny…in a racist sort of way!
😉
