Obama in Cuba — 33 Comments

  1. Obama justifies this because it is historic.

Just because something is historic doesn’t make it good or right.

This guy and the Dems have played the American people for fools with the word “historic” and it has worked great for them.

  2. Obama posing in front of a picture of mass murderer Che just shows either his ignorance of history or his implacable evil. The man has moved far beyond being an embarrassment to the United States. How much damage will he do in his last ten months?

  3. Cornhead: yep. My sign at a tea party rally that took place before the Obamacare vote was, “The Hindenburg was Historic, Too”. An older man that had fled Cuba came up to me to talk about why Americans wanted to throw away their freedom. This was actually the second time that happened. At the first big rally, another older Cuban man talked with me about Reagan’s idea that once America was gone there was no place left to go.

  4. Obama looks the fool today. He believes he is doing something ‘historic’ and wants his name in the history books, instead the Castros are laughing at how stupid he is. They will use this photo op to promote to those fighting the Castro regime that America is no longer the ally of Cubans who want freedom and democracy. America is now aligned with Cuba. Wonderful.

  5. Michael Goodwin, Scoop Jackson Democrat, has a change narrative to relate:

AND on the subject of this thread, here’s what Chris Cuomo had to say today about being in Cuba (he can barely contain his excitement):

    >>So today on CNN’s New Day, Alisyn Camerota spoke with Chris Cuomo about what he was wearing as he’s covering Obama’s trip to Cuba. Camerota said, “Hey, Chris, we can’t help but notice your culturally appropriate garb that you’re wearing. Tell us the history of your shirt.” Here’s what Chris Cuomo said —

CUOMO: My guayabera? This shirt belonged to my father [Gov. Mario Cuomo, NY]. It was given to him by Fidel Castro. It marked conversations going on decades ago that were the same as those today. The concern was the freedom of the people.

    RUSH: Come on.

CUOMO: What is the point of this Communist regime if it is not to truly make everyone equal, not at the lowest level, not by demoralizing everyone,

    RUSH: Do you hear this?

CUOMO: — but lifting everyone up. My father, generations of politicians have been fighting for this.

    RUSH: Good God.

CUOMO: So I wear this shirt as a reminder of that.

RUSH: Did you hear that? I gotta rein it back. I gotta dial it back here. Did you just hear how communism was defined here? Where did this guy pick it up? From his dad? From school? This is incredible. It marked conversations going on decades between Mario the Pious and Fidel Castro. And they were the same then as they are today.

“The concern was the freedom of the people. What is the point of this Communist regime if it is not truly to make everyone equal, not at the lowest level, not by demoralizing everybody, but lifting everyone up.” Are you kidding? That’s what communism is? Well, if they’ve been at it for, what, 40 or 50 years in Cuba, can anybody say ‘success’?

Did you know that? Did you know that the purpose of communism was to make everybody rich? Did you know the purpose of communism was to elevate everybody? Everybody was to be equal, everybody was to be the same, not demoralized, not at the lowest level, but lifting everyone up. “My father, generations of politicians have been fighting this, so I wear the shirt as a reminder.”<<

  6. This disgraceful, shameful visit is being cheered by the same Useful Idiots who had an absolute cow about Pinochet.

Also, did I miss something, but doesn’t Cuba trade with The Rest of The World? so, why don’t they import new cars? America is the ONLY nation that doesn’t trade with them — hardly a “blockade.”

Ted is right: this is only going to give the dictatorship a new lease on life, and multinational corporations another market for their military wares. Putin must be pleased as punch — Cuba was the USSR’s main “change agent” in turning Africa Red (see South Africa’s ANC, e.g.).

  7. Has Obama really ‘improved’ relations with Iran and Cuba if they are openly mocking him and the United States? I think not. The picture today in front of the Che memorial was probably one of the worst things I’ve seen in a long time. Can you imagine the propaganda material the Castros now have to use against political prisoners. “See? Even the President of the U.S. is on the side of Cuba. There is no one to save you now.”

What a coward. Worst president we’ve ever had. This last 9 months or so are going to be painful. Expect more of this stuff now that Obama can let his true colors show without fear of re-election. He is going full-on communist.

  8. I just watched the video of Cuomo talking about that Cuban shirt, and I don’t think he meant to say that Castro and his father, Mario Cuomo, had conversations about freedom, but that many American politicians had conversations over the years about that — about the supposed benefits of communism and yet no freedom there. Anyway, here’s the link to the video.

  9. An important reason the Left wanted to lift sanctions on Cuba was so that their child rapists could get access to the under 16 sex prostitutes there. It’s the kind of “socialist economy” that the Left likes to benefit from.

  10. Cornhead Says: Obama justifies this because it is historic. Just because something is historic doesn’t make it good or right.

agreed… after all, we have never had a president commit suicide. closest was kennedy who refused to use a cover on his short trip in daley square…

however, the republicans are just as complicit, they selected candidates that woudl insure a win, just as sure as the white sox did for the world series…

    they threw the game…

now they are upset that Trump would break all their deals which are contingent on delivering things that they cant deliver or explain why they NEED it… both sides are complicit in this game, with a “you can make a million, if you let me make a million” game…

  11. Tomorrow, Obama will visit Tupac’s God mother, and cop killer… Assata Shakur.. and maybe even have a beer soviet with Joanne Chesimard… (her married name), and get to know her better given Ayers…

The BLA has also worked with the Weather Underground Organization (WUO), another domestic terrorist group. In 1970 the WUO, led by William Ayers, declared war against the United States Government and engaged in a series of high profile bombings. The Ayers organization and the BLA were also involved in the armed prison escape of Joanne Chesimard, in which officers were taken hostage at gunpoint. In a continuum of violence and crime, the WUO and the BLA were responsible for the infamous 1981 Brinks robbery, where police officers and security personnel were murdered. William Ayers was not convicted for his crimes due to procedural errors during the manhunt. Ayers, however, admitted to his crimes. This admission was not from a sense of repentance but from a sense of regret that he didn’t commit more crimes.

    and

Ayers and Bernardine Dorhn raised three children. One is named Malik (the Muslim name of Malcolm X). Another is named Zayd (after Zayd Shakur, a Black Liberation Army revolutionary who was killed while driving the cop-killer JoAnne Chesimard – a.k.a. Assata Shakur – to a hideout). The third, a boy named Chesa Boudin, was raised by Ayers and Dohrn after his natural parents, Kathy Boudin and David Gilbert, were sentenced to lengthy prison terms for their roles in the 1981 Brinks murders, a joint Weatherman and Black Liberation Army operation that resulted in the killing of two police officers and an armed guard.

  12. Trump said in the debate in Miami that he was just fine with the Cuba reopening — “After 50 years, it’s enough time, folks” — but that he just wanted to make sure a good “deal” was made in the process.

  13. did I miss something, but doesn’t Cuba trade with The Rest of The World? so, why don’t they import new cars? America is the ONLY nation that doesn’t trade with them – hardly a “blockade.”

    no, you didnt..
they do not really trade with other countries, because they have nothing but cigars to trade… they are not big on sugar cane, nor much else… but cigars. (you could get their cohiba in hong kong airport)

in order to buy cars from germany or the US you need US dollars or german currency… which the state controls… so unlike venzuela and most other countries, cuba has been able to cut off the use of dollars as a underground currency.

however, the biggest reason is actually much simpler. the vehicles of the period they drive, can be repaired and fixed and parts made in a basic machine shop.

todays computer controlled models with tons of pollution stuff on them, and all manner or gew gaws are just way to hard to repair if any of that goes.

but a classic eveporative carburator with a butterfly valve and a float, works well… no oxygen sensor to replace over and over…

so they have their cars and as in africa, they are quite resourceful and clever in making tools and parts over time… including hammering metal to shape fenders and such for replacements.

funny… but a lot of those cars would fetch really high prices in the US for collectors… just ask Seinfeld who just unloaded his stuff.

they wont sell them though, as the US currency would be difficult to ocnvert and then they would not get parts or such for a new car… so having an old one with all that mileage on it, and a large steel block, is the way to go.

  14. Just saw on charliespiering@twitter that Obama himself actually moved the press entourage away from where they were set up, so that they could be in front of Che. At youtube.com/watch?v=skdlQz…
or search youtube for “Obama takes a photo with American delegation in Cuba”.

  15. Interesting that you should bring this up today. I was remembering this shameful episode in Obama’s presidency just a few days ago. I re-read your post and found this comment from Moi at the time:

Don’t forget that Ms Clinton was heaviily invested in supporting Zeleya as well as Obama. Repubs should dig up all relevant info to use against her if necessary in 2016. It show her lack of regard for the rule of law.

  16. The only thing surprising about bho fawning over the glorious revolution is why he did not invite Ayers, Dohrn, Rev Wright, and Sharpton to join Michelle and the girls at this historic event. Live by Che die by Che.

  17. the video KL Smith linked to no longer exists. That gubmint can sure work fast when it works for itself!

One thing about Che: he would have executed Barack in a hearbeat for being a lazy laggard arrogant blowhard. Che loved killing. It was the anatomist in him crying to get out, doubtless.

  18. All those political dissidents will now be “internet pirates”. I suspect that is the next line of attack.

  19. It now feels as though Obama feels so safe and secure he can spend the rest of 2016 golfing, having his ass kissed, and giving the finger to anyone and everyone he can think of. Happy happy joy joy.

He still remains immune from serious criticism because he is black.

  20. What bothers me most about the whole thing is the breathless awe with which the press covered the event as if Obama has made some stupendous breakthrough in international relations.

  21. What a contrast: Obama is in Cuba, about to make a speech, and Islamic terrorists are setting off bombs in the capital city for the European Union and NATO headquarters.

    ***
“No place left to go” will be the epitaph on America’s grave marker, if we can’t turn things around somehow.
Just before I read this post (by coincidence–maybe), I was listening to a 1972 speech by Ezra Taft Benson (United States Secretary of Agriculture during both presidential terms of Dwight D. Eisenhower and later President of the LDS Church), warning about the perils of giving away our freedom to embrace — looks like a lot of people didn’t get the memo.

  23. He still remains immune from serious criticism because he is black.

Indeed, but his praetorian guard of media figures are not immune. They can be more easily isolated and targeted.

Sometimes an organization is more easily taken out by cutting their knees off, instead of cutting the head off of a snake.
