The woes of a blogger
Oh, woe is me.
First of all, I keep trying to stay away from so many Donald Trump posts—and mostly failing. Only two days from Iowa, I feel a certain sense of urgency to get the word out by writing about things I keep discovering about him of which most people are unaware. I realize that his activist supporters do not care, but everyone else certainly should.
And then this morning I spent almost an hour trying to embed an especially wonderful Ukrainian dance video that someone had sent me through Facebook. I’m not on Facebook, and although I copied the embed code it didn’t work. Then I tried to find the same video on YouTube. No dice, but I had to watch a large number of them that seemed similar before I gave up. For now.
But even before that happened, I couldn’t get to my blog dashboard page. That’s sort of command central for a blog, and there’s no way to post without it. Every now and then this happens, but when it does there’s really nothing to do but wait, and sweat: why is it happening? when will it end? is it just my blog or is it the host or WordPress? Those latter questions can be checked out, of course, but that takes time, too, and meanwhile the entire episode is always tension-provoking. In this day and age there’s also the chance it was purposeful action by someone trying to mess with the blog, and although there are all sorts of safeguards built in, it’s still always a possibility, even for a relatively little fish like me.
Yes, I want a little sympathy/empathy.
On the other hand, we’re in for a warm spell all over New England in the coming week. So there’s that.
Neo, you have my heartfelt sympathy. Mostly for the Trumpet woes.
I just sing the oompa-loompa song and substitute ‘Trumpa Loompa’ in the appropriate places – it helps me cope.
As I just spent something on the order of four hours on a blog post that I expected to take one hour, I offer my sympathy.
It’s about Trump, btw. Top post at the moment so if you’re interested, clicking on my name here should take you to it.
Mac:
That happens to me almost every day—everything seems to take more time than I think it will, except dinner.
My sympathies.
I too have a blog neo but I post to it far less frequently than do you. When I do post it takes many hours with multiple revisions before I’m satisfied. I’m a slow typist but even so, how you manage your prolific output is a wonder. As for Trump, right now he is the story of the hour, not because of his personal qualifications or lack thereof but rather due to the circumstances with which we are faced.
You have my sympathy. Not a blogger, though at one time I considered it. At one time I thought I had something to say of some importance. I’ve said it and then some, mostly comments on blogs and three books (only one published).
I marvel at the quantity and quality of your posts. You’re a well that seems never to run dry and we readers are all the benefactors. Your posts come with such seeming ease that I forget you, too, are subject to the gremlins of technology, the time needed for relating to family and friends, the minutia of daily chores required to maintain an abode, and (not least) time to sleep. Enjoy the warm spell. We’re entering a spell of lower temps here on the other side of the country – winter still has some freezes left in its bag. Any warm spells are a blessing.
I made a large batch of venison chili last night; if you were many miles closer I would drop off some chili and a few bottles of an excellent Iowa IPA (yes we have great local beer in Iowa) to sooth your woes. 😉
I’ll just say that all your efforts are highly appreciated by myself and likely everyone here. In a relatively short time, this has become my go-to destination for intelligent, thoughtful, civil conversation.
parker,
I’ve never had the pleasure, more’s the pity. For your edification; “Top Rated Beers: Iowa (US)” 🙂
Offtopic; I’d appreciate your feedback on my new blog; https://britosprepsblog.wordpress.com/
GB,
Glad to see Peace Tree and Toppling Goliath, my favorite brewer, made the list. And I will bookmark your blog asap. Don’t expect any comments until Wednesday. I will need Tuesday to relax after a marathon rush to bring out Cruz voters and then serving as the Cruz spokesman at my caucus site.
