Obama versus the governors
I just want to note that, although I think the governors refusing to accept Syrian refugees are doing the right and necessary thing, it is important only in the sense of alerting people to what’s going on. It won’t ultimately stop “Syrian refugees” from entering their states if those refugees come to this country.
The governors are in the same position as the countries of the EU, only worse. EU countries being ordered to take on refugees they don’t want and whom they see as dangerous to them are still sovereign countries with borders, at least nominally. They can enforce their borders, although pressure will be brought on them.
But what can states do? Build walls? If the refugees are settled in another state, what stops them from moving anywhere they want in the US? I haven’t yet seen a discussion of this issue; perhaps I’m missing something, but that’s the way I see it at the moment.
For a long time Obama has been at war with the states on the topic of immigration; remember the administration’s lawsuit against Arizona when that state tried to enforce federal laws regarding immigration, laws that Obama had refused to enforce? That was serious. But this is even more serious.
[ADDENDUM: As far as I can see, so far the revolt is limited to Republican governors. Fortunately, we’ve got a lot of them, including even a mostly-blue state like Michigan. But if all the Democrats stand with Obama, I repeat that I don’t see how the Republican governors can ultimately keep the new arrivals from resettling in their states. And Obama, I believe, is fully aware of that.]
Tom Wolf, the democratic governor here in PA has just announced that we will be accepting Syrian refugees. The democratic mayor of Pittsburgh, Bill Peduto, is on the band wagon and is looking for agencies to take in 500.
Stacey:
Exactly.
Do you have any sense what Democrats (not the office holders, I mean the people) think of his position?
And what when Obama brings unlawful enemy combatants from detention at Guantanamo Bay into Federal prisons on State territory? What then, governors? What when those prisoners have access to Article 3 courts? What when said courts grant habeas corpus review, and the Fed. Government fails to make a case for further detention? What when such a court orders the release of such prisoners?
This President and his administration have been in criminal violation of the laws of this country for years. And his violating the Oath of Office is best seen in how illegal immigration has been foisted on us from the top.
Here’s the article, you can read the comments. I don’t see any of them responding positively.

Wow Stacey. Wow. Commenters aren’t liking that at all.
Now 16 states.

The Democratic gov of New Hampshire has now joined the Republican governors. It’s becoming a movement.
I’ve been in thought.
I noticed “a” FB friend comment on a news article about Syrian Refugees. She was upset that people would be taking this stance of stopping refugees after nearly 500 people were just shot in Paris. Yes less than 200 dies but you really have to be TONE DEAF liberal (non-listener) to have that kind of outraged stance.
There are big things that happen from time to time.
When did I move from liberalism to conservatism? The year the LA Riots were going on in 1991. I reviewed all kinds of materials (facts) from the library 3 times a week following that BIG event. I started listening to AM radio because my appetite for news was not quenched by ABCCBSNBC. I heard a point of view I didn’t hear anywhere and therefore I went to the library 3 times a week that year to figure out what was true.
Darned it if that guy Rush wasn’t correct on environmental issues, economic issues, budget issues, etc.
I was still the same compassionate guy. But guess what? I wasn’t stuck on stupid. I evolved. It isn’t compassionate to be tone deaf and not listen and not be swayed by facts. it isn’t compassionate to be for allowing people who aren’t vetted to come in repeatedly – kill Kate Steinle and shoot 500 Parisians and countless others in America.
These issues matter and trying to tell us they don’t matter is well – Tone Deaf.
If Obama does this anyway, and it results in deaths, there will be a rather large backlash against him and any Democrats who enabled him.
I wouldn’t be surprised if surviving relatives decided to take matters into their own hands.
Remember the long dark days of democrats screaming about Bush not “connecting the dots” for some vague presidential daily briefing ???
These are the dots !!!
1) Syrian Refugees saved from a sinking ship off of Greece in October
2) Shooting up 500 Parisians in November
How can anyone assure me that they are being “vetted”?
Dots meet Obama. Obama meet dots
Unfortunately, many states are addicted to Federal funding for various programs. All Obama has to do is threaten to pull that funding, and the states will fold.
You know, the approach the Federal government should be using on “sanctuary cities”.
Here are 2 articles posted on FB by an old friend.

Are their arguments accurate? Beyond the idea that Obama can push them by refusing federal funds – I mean legally. It seems shaky to me, but I’m not an expert.
A lot can happen in a year, but I can’t see the Dems running and winning on foreign policy. While many voters pay little attention to foreign policy, in this instance, the foreign polices chickens are coming to the domestic home to roost.
Videos from 9/11, Benghazi, Boston marathon, and Paris with a voice over asking who do you trust to keep your children safe should be the message from any gop nominee.
who do you trust to keep your children safe should be the message from any gop nominee
American warriors would only trust themselves. It’s rabbits and other prey who have to “trust other” tribes to keep them safe.
