Bumping up again
[NOTE: I’ll be bumping this post up to the top for only a couple more days. Please scroll down for new posts.]
[ADDENDUM 6/17: For those who mentioned that I should change from PayPal because of what they did to Pamela Geller of Atlas Shrugs, I’m happy to report that Paypal has restored her account and apologized for the offense. So I feel okay staying with them, since it’s such a bother to change.]
I’m passing the hat once again. I’ve decided to do this twice-yearly, so as not to overwhelm you with my pleas, and the time’s come round once more (time passes so quickly when you’re enjoying yourselves).
Profuse and heartfelt thanks to everyone who originally donated last fall, and profuse and heartfelt thanks to those who made donations in the meantime, and profuse and heartfelt thanks to those who are about to do so.
Here’s a repost of my original explanation:
Well, I’ve done it; I’m officially passing the hat.
Ever since PJ ads disappeared last spring I’ve been mulling it over, and I’ve finally succumbed and placed a Paypal button on my right sidebar. It’s the yellow one that says, “Donate.”
I would appreciate donations, but they’re hardly required. Nor should you feel the least bit bad if you decide not to click on that button. I’d do all of this anyway, for free—as I did at the beginning, and as I have for the last few months.
But I would be deeply grateful if you do decide to contribute, whether it be a penny or quite a few dollars. Every single bit— be it large or be it small—adds up, and it all helps a great deal. And so I thank you in advance.
I will probably repeat this notice every now and then, the equivalent of jiggling that cup/hat. But I’ll be discreet about it. And it’s a lot better than those fund-raising drives they have on NPR, isn’t it? No interruption of the scheduled programming.
I just sent 50 bucks. I donate to other worthy causes. This blog has the capacity to change minds for the better. I have been reading and commenting here for a long time and Neo is deserving of the donation. But it sure would be nice to get that damn green apple out of the way …
Have you thought about using,GPal.net?
I am not a big fan of Pam Geller’s Atlas Shrugged, but Paypal called her site promoted hate, violence, racial intolerance. See her article at
http://pajamasmedia.com/blog/paypal-relents-and-apologizes-to-pamela-geller/
You are probably aware of this story already, but if you missed it, I thought I’d let you know about it. You don’t have to leave this in your comments after your “again with passing the hat” piece.
I don’t want to start a tangential controversy.
The real point is that I greatly appreciate your writing, and many of your very thoughtful commenter’s. Keep up the good work .
Jim & Ann in Alaska
Ditto Jim’s remarks. I made a contribution but this is the VERY LAST time I’ll use anything associated with Paypal.
Just read about GPal on Instapundit and am of similar mind to Kaba and Jim. Any chance of using it instead???
I made a credit card donation last time and will do so again. I wish you had a PO box for checks.
I second the “motion” for an address to which to mail a check.
You may email an address or PO box and a check will be in the proverbial mail. I appreciate your blog, and all the hard work you put into it. I especially like the balletic and other cultural interludes sprinkled among the political entries.
You attract a literate and insightful cadre of commenters, who often add beneficial tidbits to your own comments.
I’m in for 25 smackers. love your column and the comments are always enlightening. both you and Jen, of demure thoughts, are great reads!. Keep up the great work!
Re: Paypal, I’ve never understood the advantage of using it vs. a regular credit card, but I’m probably missing something here.
Re: Revolution Muslim, I went to that site as soon as I learned of this, and I can’t find any donation logos or links there. Could they have possibly removed them as a resut of being outed by this controversy?
Anyway, even though they have backed down, Paypal has shown me that they are unworthy of my patronage, and I will certainly use another alternative from now on whenever possible.
disappointing that you’re not changing from Paypal. I just recently discovered the site, and I want to like it, but not switching because “it’s just too much hassle” is a really really bad excuse.
I bet it’s a hassle for people to donate to your site, too, but they seem to be doing it anyway. maybe you should think about “the hassle” Pamela Geller has go through just keeping her site from being banned because they speak the truth about Islam.
A token donation is all I could prudently make at this time.
Hopefully my situation will soon improve so I can give materially–and hopefully yours will improve so you don’t bother to ask.
I love this site and can’t believe how long I’ve been reading. It’s better than most subscriptions which one does have to pay for (that includes nearly all print news media and we have to listen to ads when accessing network, cable, or radio news and commentary which is their “charge” to us. Given the sad state of MSM today, this is a bargain! The quality excels, and the price is just right – up to the reader!
I like to think that it’s not just what neo puts into the work, but also what I am able to take out when I’m finished reading (that includes the comments section which is a rare virtual community of readers, many of whom get to “know” one another by having regular exchange and/or debate.)
