Planet resembling earth found
Is Kepler-186f The One? At 490 light-years away, we may never know:
“This is the first definitive Earth-sized planet found in the habitable zone around another star,” said Elisa Quintana of the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI) Institute at NASA. “Finding such planets is a primary goal of the Kepler space telescope.”…
…Kepler had observed five planets approximately the size of Earth and in the habitable zone.
But the “previously discovered worlds are larger than Earth, and consequently their true nature — rocky or gaseous — is unknown,” the SETI Institute said in a written announcement on Thursday. “On the basis of the observed dimming of starlight from Kepler-186, the authors estimate that this newly discovered planet is roughly the same size as the Earth.”
Theoretical models and observations tell scientists that planets the size of Kepler-186f likely have a composition of iron, rock and ice, like Earth, Quintana told reporters Thursday.
And speaking of resemblances, doesn’t this newscaster look quite a bit like Candice Bergen in her more mature years?
Here is the newscaster. She is a friend of and coauthor with Jay Carney’s wife. And she tells the world all it needs to know about America.

Ugh, that katty kay
She hates AMERICA with a passion
perfect friend type for Obamaphiles
She and Claire Shipman were on Megyn Kelly’s show a couple of nights ago. So, I knew who she was immediately. The book they co-authored claims that what women need to succeed is more “confidence.” They define that as being willing to take more risks and be willing to fail. They think women are unwilling to risk failure because they have too little confidence. Gag me with a spoon.
As one who was in a business (airline flying) in which failure meant disaster, we worked hard to avoid risks and the possibility of failure. When failure means someone says something stupid or doesn’t grasp the facts, as in TV hosting, then taking more risks may be acceptable. When actual lives are on the line – not so much. Being confident enough to be “edgy” on TV isn’t the same as being confident that you can deliver 200 people to their desired destination safely.
The question of whether other life such as ours exists in the universe is the type of question that only a wealthy, comfortable civilization can afford to explore. I give thanks every day that I am fortunate enough to reside in such a civilization.
I have no doubt that any attempts to colonize another planet will be met with shrill denunciation and violent protests by the usual eco-fascists. That’s ok. They won’t be invited to Earth 2.0 anyway, as they have totally failed to remake this planet to their liking.
M1066, I disagree. I have a feeling that BLM already has a plan to declare all of the native species threatened, fence off all of the land, import feral horses and burros, destroy any grazing or water retention improvements, establish a desert tortoise habitat and send SWAT teams to assure that the only usage of the place is reserved to corrupt local politicians or a Chinese solar farming/rare earth consortium. Of course they may have to unilaterally abrogate any pre-existing agreements that may be in place, but they have imminent domain on their side and that’s the “law of the land”.
I haven’t seen Candy Bergen in maybe 20 years–since Murphy Brown went off the air. Checked–16 years.
So several thousand years even with radically improved technology….. Hmmmmmm…… Not very encouraging.
