“Meeting the goal” set for the Obamacare website…
…by moving the goalposts.
I guess they’re counting on the fact that most of America isn’t paying attention to what the goal actually was, or is.
[NOTE: More here. I’ll just add that the “Mission Accomplished” banner that Zombie references, the one that became so notorious for President Bush, actually referred to the mission of the aircraft carrier on which he gave the speech. That mission was indeed over, as were the major combat operations that Bush specifically mentioned in his speech:
The banner stating “Mission Accomplished” was a focal point of controversy and criticism. Navy Commander and Pentagon spokesman Conrad Chun said the banner referred specifically to the aircraft carrier’s 10-month deployment (which was the longest deployment of a carrier since the Vietnam War) and not the war itself, saying “It truly did signify a mission accomplished for the crew.”
The White House claimed that the banner was requested by the crew of the ship, who did not have the facilities for producing such a banner. Afterward, the administration and naval sources stated that the banner was the Navy’s idea, White House staff members made the banner, and it was hung by the U.S. Navy personnel. White House spokesman Scott McClellan told CNN, “We took care of the production of it. We have people to do those things. But the Navy actually put it up.” According to John Dickerson of Time magazine, the White House later conceded that they hung the banner but still insists it had been done at the request of the crew members
I’ve written before about the issue of what Bush meant when he said that major combat operations were over in Iraq, but it bears repeating here [this is an excerpt from the speech Bush gave that day, but the emphasis is mine]:
Major combat operations in Iraq have ended. In the Battle of Iraq, the United States and our allies have prevailed. And now our coalition is engaged in securing and reconstructing that country…
We have difficult work to do in Iraq. We are bringing order to parts of that country that remain dangerous. We are pursuing and finding leaders of the old regime, who will be held to account for their crimes. We have begun the search for hidden chemical and biological weapons, and already know of hundreds of sites that will be investigated. We are helping to rebuild Iraq, where the dictator built palaces for himself, instead of hospitals and schools. And we will stand with the new leaders of Iraq as they establish a government of, by, and for the Iraqi people. The transition from dictatorship to democracy will take time, but it is worth every effort. Our coalition will stay until our work is done. And then we will leave ”” and we will leave behind a free Iraq…
Al-Qaida is wounded, not destroyed. The scattered cells of the terrorist network still operate in many nations, and we know from daily intelligence that they continue to plot against free people.
It certainly doesn’t sound like a person saying the struggle is over, does it? The promise to stay until our work was done was not kept, of course. But it was Bush’s successor who broke that promise.]
If the Authority says that pleasure and democracy is good, then it is good, so thinks the people.
If Authorities say this demographic group must be tortured and controlled for the good of the people, the people will think it good.
Unless a person has an authority that cannot be overruled, such as God, which refuses to tell them to do evil, that person will be in a difficult position when it comes time to pull the trigger.
Most people only do things they don’t like because of orders, because it distributes the responsibility, blame, and guilt.
In a civil war, there will be no legitimate US authority to tell people to fight or not to fight, to shoot or not shoot. People will have to figure out whether fighting the zombies is a good idea all on their own.
Of course the zombie side won’t have to worry about things like that. They merely have to say that they are under authority, it’s not their fault.
“Mission Accomplished” fit the Narrative. Chairman O will put the goal where he wants, and will not be questioned by the dinosaur media. This is how things are now. Do not bother with facts, stats, quotations, etc, if they do not fit the Narrative. Everyone knows that the Left can live your life much better than you ever could.
who really cares since we arent noticing that you cant just tweak law by decree or desire… its not the presidents pervue, but it is a dictators. so when do they notice his dictatorial powers? he has done it quite a bit… lex rex is dead.. all hail rex lex…
for those who dont get my latin implications
The rule of law (also known as nomocracy) primarily refers to the influence and authority of law within society, especially as a constraint upon behavior, including behavior of government officials.
Among the first modern authors to give the principle theoretical foundations was Samuel Rutherford in Lex, Rex (1644). The title is Latin for “the law is king” and reverses the traditional rex lex (“the king is the law”).
John Locke also discussed this issue in his Second Treatise of Government (1690). The principle was also discussed by Montesquieu in The Spirit of the Laws (1748).[22] The phrase “rule of law” appears in Samuel Johnson’s Dictionary (1755).[23]
lex rex is dead, long live rex lex…
Artfldgr:
Indeed. See this.
From the apologists for the messiah that I’ve seen it appears that the messiah has decided to just continue to push forward.
They are all saying that everything is fine, everyone will love Obamacare down the road, citing the talking points on Obamacare’s good points. They are all ignoring all the people who have lost jobs, had full time jobs converted to part time jobs, lost their insurance, it’s bent the cost curve even before Obamacare was implemented (definitely divine power operating here)
It’s just like the “war on women”, continue to lie and with a compliant media they’ll convince the low IQ/information voter despite reality.
Neo – the thing I find astonishing is Krauthammer’s astonishment.. He has said similar things to this effect at past usurpations of power and orders to not enforce federal statutes.
The relative calm with which the establishment conservative media report these transgressions is reminiscent of the commentary at a Wimbledon match.
Rather than being incensed by the outrageous unlawful conduct, Krauthammer seems to be unnaturally aloof, like he’s studying a particularly interesting strain of nasal infection that he’s not seen before.
I’m not sure hysterics are the answer, but the detachment that conservative media demonstrate is a far cry from calling things the way they are.
Yep, the Democrats lied ostentatiously about the Iraq mission … and their lies won them a Presidency. Of course they learned from their false narrative on Iraq that they should lie and their lies would work.
One more thing about that Mission Accomplished banner; it speaks volumes to the character of Bush that he didn’t (although, others would have) blame the crew for “misleading.”
Bush recognized that that banner with it’s “Mission Accomplished” message was about the crew and not him. To try to set the record straight might have diminished what they had accomplished. Bush was, and still is, a real Mensch. I hope history will give him that recognition.
History, will perhaps, recognize Obama as an nonmensch. (I don’t know if that is a word; but it certainly applies, doesn’t it?)
and a dog would sidle up to him

Obama was what many wanted including conservative intellectuals like Krauthammer.
Don’t trust them. Trust the fundamentalists. They seems to have got it right.
Charles: “To try to set the record straight might have diminished what they had accomplished.”
As Neo pointed out, Bush already set the record straight.
Nothing in regards to the sign required a correction. The attacks on Bush that were based on the sign was purely propaganda. It wasn’t even propaganda based on a relevant nugget. Yet the Democrats and the Left made a conscious choice to spin up and inflame an irrational narrative on the flimsiest of premises.
Far more relevant than the sign or even Bush’s actual speech that day, the substantive post-war mission in Iraq was postured according to the needs of the situation on the ground.

Boy, you said a mouthful.
I spent much of this afternoon reading some posts at Gates of Vienna about Diana West’s book “American Betrayal”.
American Betrayed, Part 1
American Betrayed, Part 2: Planet X
An Addled Barroom Brawler
Bukovsky and Stroilov: ‘American Betrayal’ Will Make History
Then I went to Amazon and read some excerpts from her book. On page 27 and 28, she quotes Krauthammer during the 2008 campaign dismissing the notion that Obama is a socialist or a Marxist.
Michael Medved takes the same position to this day.
This is near Stockholm Syndrome territory, folks.
Her book has received scathing criticism from certain so-called “conservatives”. Ronald Radosh and David Horowitz have permanently damaged their credibility, in my opinion. I am convinced that this is one of the most important books published in years, if not decades.
At Amazon, she has 120 five-star reviews and 20 one-star reviews, with almost nothing in between. This is a dead giveaway that she has stuck a nerve for some people.
I think Baron Bodissey gets close to the heart of the matter in his “Planet X” post.
He doesn’t say it, but I think “Planet X” might also explain the tepid nature of the so-called opposition party and their refusal to take seriously Obama’s numerous impeachable offenses.
When the storm troopers are told to obey, they will Obey. If it means handing you to the camp executioners.
After all, they can truthfully say “I didn’t know what would happen afterwards, I just did as I was told. Any loyalist in america would have done the same thing when commanded to”.
Rick, for as many people seem to respect Charles Krauthammer for his “brains”, the reality that I see is that he is just another DC talking head which has been controlled by strings which he never became aware of. He is autonomous, most of the time, except on certain important parts. His emotions and his judgment is controlled, when it matters. The rest of the time, he looks ‘okay’ or ‘reasonable’ or smart. But like most things, it’s fake, an illusion.
Leftist mind control does not merely work Leftists or Democrats. People think they are immune, walking around like they own their own body and mind…
Wall Street Journal is also on the “Mission Accomplished” memetrack:
ObamaCare Mission Accomplished
The system isn’t working and the website isn’t fixed.

Barry will declare victory — and burn down the goalposts.
Game, over!
The Leftist alliance never did like victory being defined in Iraq as destroying a totalitarian regime. That hit too close to home.
Victory, as redefined by the US losing a lot of blood and money for nothing, suits the LA more.
