Supposedly, Alexis was seeking mental help for hearing voices. Is this another schizophrenia mass murder case?
There seems in recent years a growing trend of mentally ill people committing murders up in scale to mass murders. They don’t give off criminal or terrorist indicators. They can purchase firearms and other dangerous materials legally. Their premeditation, commitment, and tenacity to carry out their plan is extraordinary. And it’s all irrational.
Something needs to be done about it. What can be done?
I think this article indicates Buddhism should be banned.
Seriously, I am not a psychologist, but how do such studies about video games, guns, etc. determine causality? do video games lead to violence, or are people predisposed to violence- those who are attracted to it- gravitate toward violent entertainment and/or activities? What is the control group or condition that’s used to answer the obvious?
I see so many claims with social science studies that seem to omit obvious alternative explanations, that its hard to take most of them seriously.
Well, it seems so clear, doesn’t it? We just need to ban the mentally ill; and “poof” all our problems with mass killings will be solved!
(before anyone jumps on my case, I am, of course, being silly; as is anyone who believes that they have the magic bullet (pun intended) for any problem.)
But there IS evidence that some psychotropic drugs, when stopped suddenly, CAUSE agitation and violent urges.
As I understand it, people taking such medications can start to feel better, and -because the drugs DO have unpleasant side effects- just stop taking them. THEN they start thinking somebody’s plotting to “get” them, and they decide they have to strike first… and bang, dozens of people dead.
The people taking these meds should be MUCH more closely monitored.
how do such studies about video games, guns, etc. determine causality?
well… first of all, the medical area is dominated by women, and so there is lack of understanding the desire they generally dont have. then, there is the requirement to pass womens studies courses, which then they want to confirm, or help the cause by selecting study subjects. they are often very bad at math (personal experience from working with them), political, ideologically bent, and folllow methods guaranteed to give you the wrong answer you want, but are accepted.
in this case, take two groups of kids, let them play, code their play by some set of events you declare as violent, sit one group in a room and play teletubby films, put the other group in another room, let them play games. let them out to play again, and then code them. if the number of violent events goes up, voila. (note: it works better if its age inapropriate)
i watch them do all kinds of things, like stack an epidemilogical study with questinos about plastics but none related to other causes of early onset menses. you know what they want to prove has to do with plastic hormone analogs…
youd think they sierra club gave out the nobels.
Well, as to close monitoring, the USA now has 4.9 million folks with security clearance, including Alexis. How exactly does AnonyMous propose to ‘monitor’ more closely those psychotic patients who are non-compliant?
Perhaps they should all be committed involuntarily (for closest monitoring), but Leftist shrinks and Leftist legislators determined decades ago doing so would violate their civil rights, resulting in closure of ‘asylums’ and the creation of outpatient mental health centers. See the writings of Dr. Thomas Szasz in the 1960s-70s, including “The Myth of Mental Illness”.
Psychotics also have the legal right to refuse to take anti-psychotic meds in most jurisdictions.
Look, this Alexis was a paranoid schizophrenic, just like the AZ shooter. Delusional. Not to be reasoned with. Period.
A terrible disease, incurable, devastating to the individuals AND to the objects of their delusions. PC pretense is not an effective substitute for their containment, neither is ‘closer’ monitoring; containment is essential for societal protection.
A_Nonny_Mouse – huge proportions of women take psychotropics compared to men…
to quote:
“Women take more psychotropic medications than men. About two thirds of antidepressants and tranquilizers dispensed in the United States are prescribed to women. Also, more women than men take multiple medications. In general, women tend to have more side effects and adverse effects with psychotropic medication than do men.”
Dr. Szasz, an academic psychiatrist, was all of 41 years old when his first anti-psychiatry book was published. Just checked. He was tenured, of course.
Another reason nobody knew about the “mental illness” … Or was unable to monitor it.

HIPAA = Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act
–
The mental health care providers were barred by law from reporting the patients problems to the state / government. It seems the patient must sign a release specifically for this purpose.
–
No release == No report to the state / government.
–
No release == Background checks were passed, no problem.

Video games had nothing to do with it.

Because psychiatrists and medical unions are part of the Leftist alliance, they are covered for their responsibility in the massacre.
Meanwhile, those of you who need to live your lives in security and prosperity, are not covered by the same protections the Left gives to their own.
Thus you burn in hell while their minions live and party it up. This is the natural state of things for a Utopian slave tocracy.
Yes, sadly, most psychiatrists are Leftist or Left-leaning. as, in my experience, are most non-MD “therapists”.
Last time I looked, psychiatry had the highest suicide rate of any medical specialty. Part of Leftism, perhaps?
No, psychiatrists are the ones most in danger of becoming unstable and sociopathic.
Sociopathy, anti social disorder, and various other things are contagious. If you are stuck in a room with crazy people hearing how they were raped as babies or how they raped other people because they were abused… you’re not coming out as sane as you came in.
Psychiatrists or psychoanalysts often have to have a senior professional check them over for symptoms periodically. Or at least, some orgs do that.
Literally, insanity is contagious. if you look at cults and the Left, it shouldn’t be surprising.
Don Carlos:
Szasz was actually a libertarian, and his arguments were from a libertarian perspective rather than a leftist one.
The deinstitutionalization movement was a combination of factors, certainly not all leftist by any means. There was the aforementioned libertarian strain, a strong part of it. There was also the increase in psychotropic drugs that were assumed to help the mentally ill live outside of institutions, plus the increase in smaller community treatment faciilities which were supposed to take up the slack but which never quite did.
If a gun is in a Hollywood movie, there should be a 50% tax put on the proceeds. Make it go to victim funds and healthcare.
That’s perfectly just and fair, right? They’re anti war right, they don’t need guns. They are anti violence right, they don’t need guns. Why do they need guns? To Make Profit? How about putting some of that profit towards the suffering of the people and alleviating it…
