On immigration, Democrats have some kindly advice for Republicans
Have you noticed the spate of concerned statements by Democrats giving Republicans advice about the immigration bill?
It always makes me chuckle. How helpful! Such altruism and magnanimity on their part! Which is only what we would expect from the ever-kindly folk who choose to become Democrats:
“The [Republican] senators know it’s important to win statewide”“ to have Hispanics and other immigrant populations”“ supporting them. Hopefully, they can persuade their colleagues in the House” [said Nancy Pelosi]….
Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., had a similar message on Fox News Sunday. “The national Republican leadership will tell John Boehner, if you don’t pass a bill, we’re going to be a minority party for a decade,” [he] told host John Roberts, filling in for Chris Wallace.
But that mean old Republican (is that redundant?) Trey Gowdy, he of the strange hairdo and sharp tongue and mind, isn’t buying it:
“I was moved, almost to the point of tears, by Senator Schumer’s concern for the future prospects of the Republican party,” Rep. Trey Gowdy, R-S.C., told Fox News Sunday, “but we’re going to not take his advice.
Rank and file Republicans, as well as on-the-fence conservatives who say they just might bolt the Party in upcoming elections if they don’t like what House Republicans do with this bill, are watching like hawks. One can only hope that Republicans in the House are aware of this and act accordingly.
“Act accordingly” means making sure that the border security can is not kicked down the road once again in favor of some sort of ill-considered appeal to the Hispanic vote. The Hispanic vote is not going to win elections for the Republicans or for conservatism. Maybe some day, way way down the line—at a time when more of the relatively newly-arrived Hispanic population has been assimilated into traditional American values (if such a thing survives the leftist onslaught)—that will be true. For now, border security comes first.
I still give in to a little wishful thinking from time to time. Which lately has led me to wonder whether the urgent push for immigration reform is an act of desperation by Democrats who hope that tens of millions of new low-information voters will offset the tens of millions who will soon find out how much Obamacare costs in terms of dollars and jobs.
Darn, hit the submit button too quickly–
“…and jobs. Not to mention quality of health care.”
I think the Repubs should say, We have enough respect for Hispanics to believe that they are not interested in being governed by incompetents like Obama and the Dems.
Border security is a joke. From the bill (via Mark Steyn):
Section 5(b)(1):
Not later than 180 days after the date of the enactment of this Act, the Secretary shall establish a strategy, to be known as the ‘Southern Border Fencing Strategy’ . . .
On the other hand, Section 5(b)(5):
Notwithstanding paragraph (1), nothing in this subsection shall require the Secretary to install fencing . . .
This is the worst piece of damnable legislation ever attempted by the U S Congress – worse than Obamacare. We have now ample evidence about that monstrosity, enough for it to advise us on all such omnibus bills. Yet this crap continues to overflow the banks of the Potomac.
“…assimilated into traditional American values (if such a thing survives the leftist onslaught)…”
That ship, traditional American values, has sailed, strike that, SUNK. There are only factions, Hispanics under the auspices of La Raza, or LULAC; Muslims For Islam/Sharia; NAACP; anti-defamation (criticism) laws. Whatever in the bill there is that may encourage ‘traditional American values’ will certainly be quashed by SCOTUS anyways — they care no more about American, tradition, or values, than do our diverse immigrants — legal or illegal.
Trey Gowdy should primary Lindsey Grahamnesty.

Please take a look at the article linked below to understand how the amnesty bill the Senate passed yesterday is a sad betrayal of working class Americans of every ethnicity who will see their wages lowered and their upward mobility lowered too. And yet we still do not have a secured border. This Senate-approved amnesty bill rewards lawbreakers and won’t solve any problems — as the CBO report notes that millions of more illegal immigrants will continue to flood the U.S. in coming years.
Great job, GOP establishment. You’ve just abandoned the Reagan Democrats with this amnesty bill, and we needed them to “enlarge that tent” of which you so often speak. It’s depressing to consider that the House of Representatives is threatening to pass some version of this nonsensical bill in the coming weeks.
Once again, I’ll point out the obvious to you: it was the loss of working class voters in swing states that cost us the 2012 election, not the Hispanic vote. Legal immigrants respect the rule of law and can see how self-centered a politician must be to fill this amnesty bill with favors, earmarks, and crony capitalists’ pork, and call it good. You disrespect Hispanics with your assumption that they desire ignoring the rule of law.
Folks like me are barely hanging on to our enlistment papers in any political party — and it’s precisely because flip-flopping political actions like amnesty force us to ask how much more bull from both the elephants in the Republican Party and the jackasses in the Democrat Party we have to swallow before these political machines totally abandon the average commonsense hardworking American. Now we turn to watch the House. If they bless this new “bi-partisan” hyper-partisan devastating plan for amnesty, we’ll know that both private political parties have finally turned their backs on us. It will then be time to show our parties’ hierarchies what we think of being members of either one of these out-of-touch, arrogant, and dysfunctional political machines.

Would you kindly take this sword and cut off the heads of your fellow patriots. That way we can kick you out of power, please.

Ryan has gone over to the dark side. There will be others. But I too hope only a few will have limp wrists on border security.

Palin is the real deal. She is a leader who understands what is at stake on this issue and many others. Too bad the RINO establishment left her to twist in the MSM wind. But that is what makes them RINOS.
Palin would start something similar to the UKIP party in GB here. I could get behind that. It would be trashed as racist for a decade or so, up until the point that people were actually fed up and burdened by unchecked immigration and the corrosive abuse of the welfare system.
But by then we’ll be bankrupt anyway.
Palin makes a good point about LEGAL immigrants, the ones who’ve played by the rules and resent the cheaters being rewarded.
