A question for techies (not that I’ll necessarily understand the answer)
I have a computer question for all you techies out there: my sitecounter has unaccountably disappeared from my blog. Actually, it’s not disappeared–it still works when I log onto it–but it seems to be invisible to others.
I originally set it up so that the details would be private, but the main number of visitors used to show on an icon on the main page of my blog, and visitors could see my traffic count. It was working fine and then, about a month or two ago it suddenly disappeared, apropos of nothing I can think of.
Any suggestions on how to restore it? I’ve tried reinstalling the code on my template, but no dice. Thanks! And remember, keep all answers as simple as possible for the technically challenged author of this blog.

Mike’s America: You did it! You restored my sitemeter. Apparently, I had somehow loaded it twice onto the template, and deleting one of the codes made the other work, and the sitemeter is now displaying at the bottom of the page. Thanks, you computer wizard, you!
I was tinkering with a script on one of my pages and had two of the same loaded in different places. Nothing worked right until I got rid of the duplicate.
You might try removing one of your duplicates and see if that works.
I see you have sitemeter displayed under your “footer” section and again at the – End #content –section too…
You also have statcounter loaded there as well..
I have both loaded on my page and each works. Must be either placement or settings in one or both.

Unfortunately, I still can’t seem to restore the counter.
Mike’s America–it’s sitemeter, which is a different type than statcounter.
From reading the “help” menu, it appears possible that some program I installed recently is interfering with the display of the sitemeter.
I confess that it is Greek to me! 🙂
Check the configuration settings in stat counter.
I set the “block my visits” cookie to “on” so that my own visits won’t be logged. But somehow, that setting gets turned off every so often.
Never had the problem you are talking about, but would check your configuration to make sure that “invisible” isn’t checked.
Otherwise, I’ve found stat counter to be pretty neat.
My counter does the same thing, but when I refresh, it comes back.
When I use the “View Source” menu option on your page, I can see that the site-meter plugin is in the source.
Actually, it’s in there twice. Once right after the “/head” tag but before the “body” tag at the begining, and once at the bottom, right after the comment which reads “!– End #content –“.
I’m guessing that my browser ignores stuff that is not in the body of the document. (Everything after the “body” tag is in the body of the document, of course.) I have no idea why the one that is inside the body of the document, at the end, isn’t showing up in the browser.
I would suggest using cut/paste inside the template editor to put the site-counter code right next to the code for the “blogging ecosystem” ranking, and before the “!– end #sidebar –” comment. Then republish the index of the blog (or maybe republish everything, if you want), and see what it looks like. If it isn’t visible after that, I don’t know what would make it visible.
I’m sure glad you didn’t call on me for an answer – I didn’t even own a TV set until I was 38 years old. I did however have a wind-up wrist watch which I sometimes wore.
