George and Laura Bush…
…have become grandparents for the very first time.
They are all beaming here (except granddaughter Mila, who’s doing what newborns tend to do), despite the misdirected arrow on the board behind them:
I’m very happy for them. I hear tell that grandparenthood is generally one of the great joys of life.
Of course, the comments section of many of the articles that announce the birth of Mila are loaded with nastiness towards the Bushes. it seems the temptation can’t be resisted no matter what the occasion. At this point they are probably so used to it that it doesn’t register any more. Hope so.
I’m happy for the whole family. George and Laura will be terrific grandparents.
Grandpa looks especially happy.
When my grandson was born, all I wanted to do was sit by his crib and stare at him. Strange, but lovely.
A new human life. Good choice.
Congratulations to the new parents and grandparents. Grandchildren are a blessing. You get to love them, delight in their progress as they grow, and then give them back to the parents. 😉 Our newest grandchild began to crawl 2 weeks ago. Soon she’ll be standing, then walking, and then getting into everything.
Really happy for them. Grandchildren are such a blessing in so many ways.
Sixteen years ago our twin grandchildren were born at 7months. Watching them overcome serious early struggles to develop into accomplished athletes and all around good folks has been a highlight of our lives. Now, their 21 year old sister has been fighting leukemia for the past 10 months (the girl twin donated bone marrow). Although her travails are wrenching for the family, it has been wonderful to watch this child grow into a courageous and upbeat young woman, who faces her future undaunted. The blessing of grandchildren goes far beyond the ability to enjoy the good times, and step back from the burden at other times. They provide wonderful perspective for the years when we are in a reflective mode. They also validate our existence.
I know this newest member of the Bush family will be treasured by multiple generations.
I always liked the old joke “If I had known grandchildren were so much fun, I would have had them first!”
Oldflyer,
May your granddaughter fighting against leukemia have a full recovery. Medicine does wonders these days and miracles do happen.
darling baby
Oldflyer,
My thoughts and prayers go out to your family.
Look at those faces! What a new baby can do!
people who say nasty things like that on the net are just hiding behind their mother’s skirts – cowards, they would not DARE say that to his face
And many W critics have the brains of walnuts. They mainly hate him because it’s fashionable, not because of any true transgressions (a la Nixon). If you were to describe NCLB and the reasons we went to Iraq and inferred that this is what OBAMA had done, these twits would say these were great things.
W. was a great leader and most of all, a kind and humble human being. You don’t have to agree with *anything* he did as president, but have the decency to congratulate him on his personal life (ie becoming a grampa) or shut the hell up.
This s*** is why I claim Independent rather than Liberal. We have become dangerously nasty.
I guess people who have been together for as long as W and Laura have do start to look similar…that’s noticeable in this photo, and I love W’s “Carhartt” jacket. I used to have one like it.
