I heart Gerolsteiner
I’ve written before about my weird beverage preferences. I’m not a picky eater, but I’m an extraordinarily picky drinker. Basically, I like two things: water and club soda.
That makes me very strange indeed, but only about beverages. However, it also makes me a sort of expert, a real connoisseur of the sparkling water world.
And in that world this is the Rolls-Royce, the Cadillac, the Porsche, and the Lamborghini all rolled into one:
You can get it very reasonably at Trader Joe’s. You can get it slightly more expensively in plenty of other places. But get it. It’s the smoothiest, punchiest, most satisfying sparkling water on earth.
And believe me, I’ve tried just about all of them.
[NOTE: I’d say get it at Amazon through neo-neocon, but it’s ridiculously expensive there, for some reason. But if you’re desperate…]
I like San Pellegrino. Developed a taste for it in italy and still prefer it.
Excellent recommendation. My brother and I are toasting you with some Gerol right now.
I really like Gerolsteiner, too. I used to buy it regularly at Trader Joe’s, but then I got annoyed with them when they shrunk the size of the bottles they sold and started buying other sparkling mineral waters instead. I also like Pellegrino very much, as well.
After kicking the diet soda habit, I’ve developed a liking for sparkling water. I usually buy the cheap store brand, which is just palatable, but I’ll give some better brands a try.
San Pelligrino has been my favorite. It reminds me of the Dolomites, where I first quaffed it. Based on your recommendation, I’ll give Gerolsteiner’s a try.
I have both San Pelligrino and Gerosteiner in the pantry. I prefer the former. Gerolsteiner has twice the mineral as San Pelligrino, which is a bit too much for me.
“water and club soda”
What about seltzer?
Gary Rosen: I mean “club soda” in the generic sense—as in “sparkling water,” “seltzer,” “naturally carbonated mineral water,” and whatever else it’s called these days.
I don’t drink sodas except for Polar half-and-half (grapefruit and lemon) and orange, and occasionally an Orangina. Polar makes some very nice seltzers, though they have rather large carbonation bubbles. Ruby Grapefruit, Cranberry Lime, and Mandarin Orange are all subtle in flavors and quite refreshing.
San Pellegrino has a wonderful Italian soda in a tiny bottle, Chinotto, which reminds me of an Italian bitter soda I have not been able to find for several decades… though it is admittedly not for everyone. Nothing satisfies a desperate thirst quite like a cold, cold San Pellegrino. I have tried Gerolsteiner but slightly prefer San Pellegrino.
I too have long liked club soda/seltzer water, but am fine with the more plebian brands like Canada Dry and LaCroix. In fact I always keep a case of the LaCroix lime stocked here at the office. What I look for is a really strong “kick” out of the carbonation. IMO Perrier doesn’t have enough, so that’s discouraged me from trying “high line” brands; Im afraid they’ll be too “weak” and that I’ll therefore feel like a chump for having paid a premium….
I do agree that regardless of brand, it has to be served very, very cold.
I think everyone should go here.
