Susan Rice, martyr
Rice regretfully withdraws her name from contention for Secretary of State, having been foully and unfairly wronged by the evil, racist, misogynist Republicans.
Ace has already written pretty much what I have to say on the matter.
And now that John Kerry is the top contender, I’ll recycle this, which I wrote exactly a month ago, when his name was up for Secretary of Defense:
If true, this would be another example of what a keen sense of humor Obama has. For what better way to enrage the majority of conservative men who served in Vietnam long ago? They harbor enormous resentment toward Kerry for his Winter Soldier hearings (perceived by many to be based on exaggerations and outright lies), accusations of widespread American war crimes, and communicating with the enemy as some sort of self-nominated unofficial ambassador in Paris.
That Obama guy, he’s a real stitch.
One unexpected consequence of a Kerry appointment, however, would be that in the election to fill his senate seat, Scott Brown would probably get another shot at becoming a senator from Massachusetts, this time alongside his new colleague, Elizabeth Warren.
I supported the civil rights movement in the 60s, and women’s and gay rights movements in the 70s… and now I’m not sure I did the right thing… for me.
Took me along time to understand that the purpose of political involvement is for the individual to advance his economic and political self-interest. Not to advance abstract moral ideals.
I think that I’m like a lot of hetero white men who look back now and think “I was really naive to think that women, blacks and gays would view equality and fairness in the same manner that my father did.”
I should have spent a lot more time focusing on my own rights and needs, and let the victim groups advocate for themselves.
actually there is a great article someplace i read this morning (check mail neo) that lays out that it was the dems that creamed her, not the republicans.
anyway, on another note, you all should see how the government is now using the commerce clause after the recent judgments related to health care.
right now, they are asserting that the fed has control over hemingways 6 toed cats as they are part of the museum and so part of interstate commerce and should be regulated.
Looks like he wants to give the gift of Chuck Hagel for Dept of Defense to the Jews. Gonna be a loooong 4 yrs.
And looks like Deval Patrick will do an appointment rather than hold an election in MA.
She was following orders, repeating what her superior [in an organizational sense only] was instructing her to put before the public. That had become her job.
(Kinda reminds me of George Stephanopoulos defending Bill Clinton in the 1990s, or Jay Carney acting as the official mouthpiece for the incumbent right now.)
Anyway, much/most of the ire directed at Susan Rice really ought to be directed at the incumbent — but He’s untouchable.
The “honorable” Senator from Mass ought to be decorating the end of a noose. His nomination as SoS would be just one more slap in the face to the millions of Americans who served honorably and well during Vietnam.
His traitorous post war antis in conjunction with the coverage of My Lai poisoned the well for returning Viet vets. Transitioning from warrior to civilian can be difficult under the best of circumstance. When a significant part of the population considers you to be a drug addled baby killer it is even more difficult.
Damn Senator Kerry. Damn the idiots who continue to elect the traitorous SOB. And Damn the malignant Marxist that will nominate him as SoS.
Scott Brown can run again for the Senate from Massachusetts. He may have trouble getting elected. I’m sure the Dems can dredge up another Kennedy somewhere for the “Kerry” seat.
I liked Kerry as a senator, he did nothing, which for a senator from Massachusetts is hard to beat.
The remarkable thing about this is, as Wretchard points out in his latest blog entry, that it wasn’t the Republicans or the right that destroyed Rice’s nomination chances; it was the left.
KRB
I think it was mistake for McCain and his cohorts to direct so much attention at Rice. As MJR notes she was the merely the messenger. Starting 9/12/12 all attention for 4 dead in Benghazi should have been (and should now be) directed at primarily BHO and secondly at HRC. The only question to ask Rice was who gave you the talking points?
Perhaps rather than tone deafness on Obama’s part, this is entirely intentional? And Kerry does fit in perfectly with Obama’s hubris.
Obama rarely misses an opportunity to say or do things that outrage normal Americans.
I don’t know if The Won set up Rice to take the fall, or if she did it willingly, trusting The Won and The Media to play the race and female cards to protect her. or maybe it was no more than Obama Theatre to distract past election day
“That Obama guy, he’s a real stitch.”
Stitch . . . rhymes with . . .
Neo, you crack me up!
I’m for Kerry but only so long as he is required to keep his office in downtown Benghazi.
“I’m for Kerry but only so long as he is required to keep his office in downtown Benghazi.”
As an alternative may I suggest in Mogadishu where the first Black Hawk went down? A perfect place to learn about the rape, pillage, and burn of Genghis Khan.
Sam L., 6:27 pm —
Really, it seems to moi, what Susan Rice did was Hillary Clinton’s job as Secretary of State. But Hillary was out-of-town on some important mission or other. How conveeeenient, as Church Lady used to say.
Wanna hear my opinion? It’s based on nothing I can back up, but here it is, anyway:
When the incumbent told Hillary what He needed her to say to the citizenry, she told Him very politely where He could stuff it [hint — the sun don’t shine there]. And left Susan Rice holding the bag, at The One’s bidding of course: a bag that contained a sword for her to fall on if necessary.
She’s a common hack, whereas Hillary’s an uncommon hack. God bless America.
M J R: I agree with you. That’s the scenario I’ve thought happened right along.
What a crock. “Withdrawing” her name from a nomination that was never made except in the media? Typical BO tactic of trying to squeeze some underhanded political advantage (“ra-a-a-a-a-cist”) wherever he can find it.
ONE UPSIDE: Kerry(Who, incidentally, did’ja know, served in Vietnam for 3-months, 43-yrs ago?)would be out of his Senator FOREVER job of Massachusetts. I like that alot.
Word here in MA is that Warren is a one termer. Once Joe Kennedy III (Joe Joe Joe) is ready she will be given an offer she can’t refuse and “retire”
But with Kerry gone and an appointment filling the seat for awhile Joe Joe Joe may not have to wait that long. But then he may want to wait and regain the family seat.
Choosing a hack for the appointment will be hard there are so many in Progressive MA.
Since there is no way to avoid the Warrens and Kennedys at least MA will take a hit in seniority.
After reading some of the comments by the Left on Rice, she seems to be a viable presidential candidate in 2016 – certainly no worse than Gore, Kerry, or Obama.
Read this on what some of the left thinks of Rice:

The really stupid thing about all this is that her definitive statement was dumb. She should have merely said what some of the alternatives were and that all were being investigated.
